    I have two friends in Sarasota who own their homes. I moved from St. Petersburg last year bc I couldn't keep up with the rising cost of rent. So, I moved to the mountains to also avoid flooding from storms. My rent is now quite a bit cheaper, and I'm happy with that.

      Even though I may be able to afford a place in Florida ….. it’s too much of a money pit to that move …. Living on a boat may have been an option if they where not getting hit with so many major storms …. Now with the current Governor there ….. it’s definitely out ….. I always loved Florida ….. but just can’t justify moving there …. and the extensive rise on the cost of living ….. for now , when I’m in the States …… I will just travel around in my camper …. In the North East Coast .
      Plus , watching all my Florida friends get beaten to death in Florida …. Struggling to just survive and get out of debt ….. realizing that eventually they will have to take a loss and abandon ship …… it’s a shame to have to leave that dream behind ….. mine included .

    Nice presentation !! I lived in Sarasota back in the early 80's...it was less populated, & developed then. Loved Siesta Key...& Lido beach...would have stayed, but it was hard to find work, during that time...apparently we were having a recession back then. Would be interested in less expensive properties...maybe even a fixer upper with 5- 10 acres for my horse...want to be within 30 min. to the Gulf beaches. Fruitville used to have those kind of properties...

    I was once pondering Naples for retirement but three factors shifted my focus to Sarasota: Naples is too far South adding miles to go anywhere else- Sarasota is South enough but more centrally located. Secondly, the housing costs are too prohibitive in Naples. Finally, I love the cultural appeal and average age in Sarasota better than Naples.

    • @katrinreal
      @katrinreal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, prices have shot up over the years. Living in FL is not as affordable as it once was. It will cost you much more now than it would have 2 years ago for example. Unfortunately, that is today's reality in many places across the US.

      Lived in Florida for decades but no longer there but still visit family. Due to work, I know every corner of Florida.
      Tampa and Florida housing markets come in waves and Florida, in general, has the biggest housing crash rivaled by Las Vegas. The job market is simply not there not keep up with the rising real estate. If history is worth anything, the Florida market is bound to take a massive hit.
      I remember in 2008 where these “condos” were artificially going for 250k in Tampa (unheard of) and after the housing crash in 2007/8, they were going for 65-99k.

    You can't even touch a nice two-bedroom condo in Naples for under $350,000-400,000 these days. House in a nice area? You better have cash saved up or have a salary starting in the six figures.

    St Petersburg horrible. Move to Sarasota. Don't forget increasing hurricanes, mosquitoes, bugs of all kinds and alligators everywhere. Schools are horrific in Florida across the board. Lots of people moving in droves down here but haven't updated the infrastructure and traffic is out of control. Interstate I75 is out of control with traffic at a stand still like a parking lot during rush hour and I won't talk about the traffic fatalities. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but I've lived here over 30 years and we locals don't necessarily like the changes we see
