In the wishbone offense, Keith Jackson wasn't getting a lot of touches, but when he did, it was big. Before this game, Keith walked into Coach Switzer's office and asked to get the ball more and he could help OU win this game. Coach Switzer said, "You're right," and walked Keith down to the film room where the coaches were breaking down the Huskers and told them he didn't care how but get Keith the darned ball. The rest is history.

@@quinnschroetlin I did not expect it either but when you realize he had unheard of speed and agility for a tight end, it was only a matter of time before that play was utilized.

This was one of the most BADASS rivalries, and several times decided who would be National Champions!
6:51 was a phenomenal play by Holloway!

It would be nice to see them play regularly again. I wouldn't mind Nebraska going back to the Big 12.

The losses to Oklahoma in 1984, 1985, and 1987 were just brutal - and in order of brutality which is very high to begin with. As bad as the 1986 loss was in the "Red Pants" game, Penn State and Miami were #1/#2 locked, so there wasn't a potential National Championship at stake like the other three.

  • @christophercottrell8227

Looking back at these games, I was thinking what players could be stars in today’s game. I came up with two for sure, Bosworth and Keith Jackson. Probably the greatest LB and TE in OU history. Jackson would go in to be instrumental in OU’s 87 victory too, with an incredible catch with seconds left, and OU beat Nebraska with a FG with about 9 sec. left in the game. For all the hype and glamour that followed the Boz around, he was an outstanding LB who flew around all over the field. I’ve watched games where it seemed like he was in on every single tackle.

Thanks SteelBuck 6, this is awesome. College football in the 80’s was fantastic. After Holieway became the starter after Aikman’s injury, he only lost once-to Miami in the OB. Anybody remember why Holieway didn’t play in 1987? Injury? Ineligible? I know he didn’t go pro early.

I’ve always believed that the best games, between Sooners & Cornhuskers, back then, were played at Nebraska.
And notice when a player’s momentum carried them to the side line of the opponent and how the other team protected them from running into the wall? That’s because of the respect for each other.
