He has good damage but overall, he's average. Pure fundamentals with no gimmicks and neutral skips. Luke and Ken can pretty much do what he does but better with more tools to their kit. If next patch allows Ryu to be able to keep his denjin charge when using the light and medium versions of his hadoken and hashogeki there is no doubt he will be top tier.
@@ericjones3625 Good damage? Dude, all he needs is one stock of super and literally one mistake in a round and you may as well put your controller down, he has ridiculous damage, not good damage. Luke has good tools, but doesn't particularly excel in any one area, he's just a good all rounder. Ken is flashy, but doesn't have Ryu's damage - pretty much like every Street Fighter in the series since forever. Ryu is a monster in this game if you know you optimal drive rush punishes. He's almost as silly as Season 1 Ryu in SFV, who was an absolute joke.
@@Longlostpuss Still doesn’t change the fact he’s average unless they buff his denjin charge. Just because he hits hard doesn’t mean he should be automatically top tier. By that logic, Marisa should be top tier cause of her damage but with the way her kit is built around being weak to lows and automatically struggle against anyone with a fireball she’ll remain average. Luke arguably can be played better defensively than Ryu with his forward advancing normals and a better fireball. He’s a balanced playstyle but you see more Luke’s being defensive and reactive than anything. Ken might not have the damage like the other two but him having Dragon Lash, being able to OD his fireball and DR behind it for added pressure to just skip neutral entirely. Ryu has always been average throughout the franchise, the only time he was top tier was as you said the first season of 5 and Third Strike
@@ericjones3625 Let me see:-- Mobility - decent Health - decent Neutral buttons - decent Projectile - decent Corner carry- decent Anti Air- decent Power - well above average. It's interesting you make the Marisa point, but Ryu is not Marisa, he's got way more tools in his arsenal for anti air and keep away, yet he has a grappler's damage if you optimise his combos - that makes him extremely dangerous. I see nothing average about the character at all, have to be honest.
Holy crap that last set with Luke was intense. This Ryu does the optimal choice almost every time in a fight! Really good player this YAS!
Love to see good Ryu players, and this one is really good. Thanks for the video!!
Yasssss, Ryu

I'm still struggling to figure out why people are putting Ryu in Tier B.
Have you seen his damage?
