I'm so glad this video is still helping people! This game is so brilliant, I'm thinking about redoing a new tutorial for scratch from it too! Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated...
If you're still planning on doing videos, @@videogamearchitect7462 , would you consider making one with a similar tutorial for the megamod 9? Once you start to play with mods in this game, there's just no going back and I don't think I ever even use any of the vanilla structures, because every one of 'em has many versions that look different and some can even be upgraded. Then there's fishing, hunting, gathering structures all new and all with different features. But there are a lot of things on a more dificult level like the advanced buildings and more intricate systems like shipyards and trains and all the different kinds of mines and crop fields and orchards. Blacksmiths even can make guns and I do not know what's the point because there are no enemies, right? Dozens of different styles of town halls or structures that act like town halls(for example Village hall or City center or even a Japanese style castle etc.). If you're ready for the challenge of learning and sharing your knowlege together with what you already know, I'm sure many people would appreciate because through all of my searching that I've done in past week, I haven't found ANY videos teaching things about the biggest mod in Banished.
This really helped me i use to build 5 wooden houses at the beginning and keep watching every person growing up to 10 years 😂 this big house at the beginning is really cool it holds all of them and they can also get marrage
just bought Banished in the current Steam sale and your tutorial was a great help since my first attempt was a dismal failure the poor villagers all died of starvation before winter set in
Best tutorial EVER. Im years late, but thats how games work I guess. Sometimes you notice stuff later! But i just wanted to say thank you, this video is great for a new player who just lost my first village on easy due to hunger 😂
Thank you so much, I'm glad that this video is still helping people! Genuinely appreciate the comment and the subscribe, means so much to me! Cheers my friend!
I was about to refund this game on Steam because the tutorial was so shitty and vague that I had no idea what to do but this video helped me so much. Thanks man. Now I'm even more excited for Manor Lords.
I appreciate this thank you. Banished is a favourite of mine but without a basic tutorial in-game like Age of Empires, I found my people just died! On to part 2 now..
You're more than welcome sir! Just means that you have to get those food rations up! Sometimes its just a matter of getting lucky with the random map you land on! Some have easier food resources available than others! So good luck, let me know if there is anything specific I can help you with in this game! Cheers and good luck!
Hey no problem at all, that's how I started my town for the longest time! its possible to do, but definitely makes things more difficult to maintain early game... Glad that you found this tutorial useful! Thank you so much for the support and the kind words! Cheers!
Hi Cody, I appreciate the question as you're allowing me to correct my mistake! I misspoke, I meant it would require 4 farmers, you are right! When I recorded this for whatever reason my brain was looking at its perimeter instead of the area, my mistake. To clarify, 7x7 is the largest farm you can have with 1 farmer, 10x10 for 2 farmers, 12x12 for 3 farmers and 15x15 for 4 farmers. So to be clear, even though 7x7 may be the most economical for 1 farmer, the truth is the 15x15 (being the max farm in the game) with 4 farmers is slightly more economical than having 4 farms at 7x7. Thanks again for the question, I hope this helps!
7x8 field. 15 / 2 = 7.5 0.5 + 0.5 = 1 + 7 = 8 You can form a 15x15 with four 7x8 field circling around (7+8=15) so when you need to make a 15x15 immediately you can just delete the four fields. Example:「」
Wouldn't 14x14 be enough for 4 farmers? Since 14*14 is equal to 196, which is 4 times 49, which again is equal to 7*7, which was stated as enough for just 1 farmer.
That was such a good tutorial thank you. I’m new to the game but not the genre even so there is a lot to learn about banished! Quick question about orchards, I’m guessing it’s the same as a crop but I had a fairly large plot and only one farmer and the apple trees died. Do you know what the size plot should be per harvester? Thanks
Orchard trees take two years growing to full size and only produce their fruit or nuts from the third year. They do die, one at a time over several years, and every time one falls over and vanishes the farmer plants a new sapling, but if you saw all your apple trees standing there with bare branches they had simply shed their leaves for winter and will get new ones in (early) spring. Orchards have gaps between trees - one tree every two spaces in one direction and every three the other. I don't know any way to rotate an orchard, so a long thin 15 x 4, one farmer, is 16 trees, but 4 x 15 would only be 10 trees. The game allows farmers a slightly bigger area each in orchards than in fields, so a 7 x 10 orchard is also 16 trees and one farmer. 9 x 7 and 5 x 13 are 15-tree orchards. Farmers start harvesting crops automatically as soon as the year hits early autumn - or before, if they reach 100% sooner - but fruit and nuts ripen slower so farmers give them a month longer, until (middle) autumn, making them more vulnerable to frost and snow - especially if a summer heatwave has retarded the yield.
7:15 he realizes he's been saying "farm" instead of "barn" and says "BARM" instead. I was so confused what farm we were talking about until this cleared it up.
Lol! It was my very first video, definitely enjoy going back and seeing the growth since then. Was stumbling over words a little bit in this first tutorial LOL. Oh well, hope you still enjoyed!
great vid. thanks for this. qq: is this game fully developed? I was very disappointed with Life is Feudal: Forest Village...as it turned out that some buildings were "buildable" but did absolutely nothing. so i'm hoping this game is "finished" and "complete" 🙂
Thank you so much, I appreciate you taking the time to let me know! Means a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed! Thinking about making some new Banished content as this game is still getting some traffic! So stay tuned, more to come! Cheers again for the support!
Great tutorial, thanks. Looking at which tutorial to use, as soon as you told me about 7x7 farms I knew that you'rs was the most helpful. What do you think of MegaMod?
Hi, thanks for the support! I've definitely tried the MegaMod and I enjoy it quite a bit! I was already thinking about releasing a tutorial or lets play for that after I'm done with this beginning vanilla tutorial! Let me know if you'd be interested in seeing a future tutorial for that as well!
I could definitely use a MegaMod tutorial because I made the mistake of enabling it after the first tutorial not thinking it would add more than 5x the menu tiles and it would basically mean the tutorials are obsolete. Had to delete and reinstall.
Is there any value in making the smallest 2 worker farm, say an 8 by 7 and have 2 workers assigned for seeding and harvesting and just keep 1 on throughout the year to water? I use to do this in forest village and it worked out pretty well I think the 1 worker plot was 9 by 4 on that game so I'd do a 10 by 10 it made the harvesting a little quicker without having to embody a kid to do it manually, can you embody people in banished?
7x8 is the most efficient farm. it allows 1 farmer to get the maximum amount without food waste. 7x7 is just losing out on the full potential. Also large farms don't work well, so you wouldn't want to go for a double sized farm with two people. Just make two farms.
Thank you for this video. It help me a lot. I followed you exactly but I am still having the same issue. All of my production, fields, fish, blacksmith, everything, has that so sign sign over it saying production had been disabled. I can't figure out why. I've restated 12 times, uninstalled, Defrag my computer, reinstalled and I just can't figure out what's wrong. I paused this video and filled what you did exactly. My workers have question marks but won't produce. Any ideas?

It varies depending on the map seed. On a medium or easy start we always get three seed types from the beginning - sometimes two for crops (fields) and one for trees (orchards), sometimes the other way round, out of eight possibilities for each. We can obtain the rest later from merchants visiting the trading post we build.
Exactly as Richard detailed! You have to receive the seeds at a later date if you want to expand that out from the trading post! Let me know if you need anymore help along the way! Cheers for the comment!
Hmmmm that is weird. I know if you are too late into the year they will not start planting because winter is coming. Perhaps just waiting till next spring could be the issue?
