Calgary has been denied a lot of major shows because of that. Top tier musicians & such with pyrotechnics and other fancy displays skip Calgary because our arena roof is too low for their show.
The weight that can be hung from the roof is the issue. Especially with the weight of the snow during the winter. The saddledome roof allows events to hang up to 60,000lbs, while Roger's Place in Edmonton allows up to 200,000lbs.
First time I went to a Frolunda Game as a Calgarian I no word was wondering if they copied us at first. The Scandinavium I thinks called has really cool Red and Green lights they should have gotten a better picture at night.
I've heard from one of my friends who lives in calgary that the saddledome is one of the main reasons Calgary has the least visits from bands or any events/concerts. I believe the main reason for this is that the odd shaped roof just does not make sounds travel well, and the sounds are basically dampened. so calgary would be skipped over, and edmonton got more concerts. Sadly, the dome is getting replaced and demolished. i would suggest everyone visit the dome while they can they've begun construction or preparations for a new arena to be opened in maybe the next 5 years (i don't know exactly).

I'm surprised they're planning to get rid of the Saddledome immediately after getting the new one. They kept the 50s era Corral that the Saddledome replaced open until 2019 for minor league teams, smaller shows, and as a backup arena if the Saddledome had issues.
It’s been a disaster since it opened, extremely poor design. Sound acoustics are horrible to say the least. You have to walk miles to find a washroom and the top Row of seats are lovingly referred to as a nosebleed seats which you can’t see the ice below due to the scoreboard. Whoever designed it should’ve lost his job……

I live here and glad I'm an LA Kings fan. But holy crap don't visit here in January (unless you like -40 wind chill), . Rest of the year, PERFECT weather (not much rain) and many sunny spring and summer days

Calgary local here. It’s mostly because the building is old and falling apart so they go to Edmonton for the nice new arena

For live shows, they arent allowed to attatch any lights or speakers from the roof in case of collapse due to the roofs shape
