We used Rotman's graduate level text when I took Modern Algebra years ago along with Watkins' Topics in Commutative Ring Theory both of which are a joy to read. Are you planning on using Rotman's undergrad book for Abstract Algebra? I'd be curious to see if it's as good as his Grad level one. Cheers!
Thanks for the reference to Watkins' book. I have both Rotman books, and it makes sense to do both in a row but I am still thinking about it because, unlike with Analysis, I have a really nice selection of Abstract Algebra books (for which I plan to make videos but I like to make videos on the eve of running through a subject): Lang undergrad and grad, Hungerford undergrad and grad, Jacobson undergrad and grad, Artin grad, Moore grad, Pinter undergrad, Dummit and Foote grad and Gallian undergrad. I have read a few pages out of Rotman and it reads great, but I can say the same about Gallian. The combo I am currently thinking will work is Gallian followed by Dummit and Foote.
@@mathematicaladventures Nice! I have plans on my channel for some of the books you mentioned as well. I was thinking of maybe doing a series on Lang's books. I was also toying with maybe starting a series on Pinter's book as I've been doing some casual reading of it and it has some really fun looking exercises that I think people would enjoy seeing on my channel. Happy studies brother!
You are da bro. By the way, love your bookshelf videos. The Bourbaki one is really useful to me. I jotted down the list of all of Lang's books last night out of wikipedia, and it was one humbling experience: www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/Serge_Lang I wish I was younger. It would take someone a good ten years to go through all those books. I think if you do a series on Lang's books, it will be really useful. I only have Linear Algebra for math majors, Abstract Algebra for undergrad and grad, and SL(2,R). The God of personal libraries is human and lives in California. I have been watching this video 30 minutes at a time: th-cam.com/video/NtMVw1HnbYs/w-d-xo.html
this is the book!
It sure seems that way to me too!
