    I bought a deco model 6000 from a discounter. My house is long ranch style. Have struggled to get outside eyes cameras to sync with my Comcast modem. Can you temporarily turn off the other bands for setup. I have not set it up yet. I don't have ethernet cabling in the house.. Really would like to figure out how to constantly capture footage to my TV or computer. I would even put a large drive just for video .

      Deco M9 is essentially an older version of this. It doesn't support wifi 6, deal wise it's way better than the x90. I don't know if I'm going to get the deco m9 but specs wise for the price it's really good. I'm not a fan of the x90, I returned it, even though it had really good range.

    Great video! I love all of your content!!
    I’m looking to invest in a new network system and need some advice/recommendations. The new home is 3,300 sq ft, two story ( 8 years old) on a slab foundation. Looking for a system that will provide excellent coverage for the home as well as the back yard. In the home there are currently 15-20 devices that will connect to the network. I need to ensure fastest speeds are available for my work computer located on the first floor which can connect wirelessly or via ethernet, and the wireless projector in the media room upstairs. The projector is has ability to plug into an ethernet port but the office with work computer doesn’t have ethernet port currently. Also I would like to have a system that would provide enough range to allow us to use virtual reality headsets in the backyard.
    Based on some of your reviews Ive been considering going with the Asus XT8. I wanted to get your thoughts on what system you think would work best given my scenario. I know there are always variables etc but any feedback is greatly appreciated!

    • @landpet

      As long as there is an Ethernet cable making it’s way from one x90 to the other then it’s a wired backhaul. So in my case I have Ethernet cables in the walls and I use those so if you have the same scenario then yes that would work

    So,this is not really clear .If you have NBN cable to the premises the modem is part of that system so you basically connect a router to this which most people do ,then they use that to distribute the signal through the house.Now, you buy this to extend your existing system. Does this plug into your existing router ?? .I ask this because most people will buy this as an extension to their existing system.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can connect this to the router and in the deco app, you can set this to run in access point mode which will extend the current WiFi.
      It would be better to replace your router with this instead if that’s possible or to put your router in bridge mode which will make this router the main one.

    Been watching a lot of your router videos lately. Thanks for all the info.
    I have a general question for you. When I built my house I had it prewired with Cat 5 (not cat 5e, old school cat 5) because it was what was available at the time. The network is great for feeding laptops and tv's but if I was deciding between wired on cat5 or wireless backhaul..... Can you give me any advice where I should start? I know I could probably try both just to see. But wanted to ask.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on your internet speeds and what mesh wifi you're planning on getting.
      If your speeds are 100Mbps then you can just use the cat5 connections since that is the max speeds they support. If your internet speeds are faster, I would go with a tri-band router, something like an eero Pro 6 or Orbi RBK752 and go with wireless backhaul. Asus XT8 is also a good option.
      If your internet speeds are 100Mbps or slower then I would go with a dual band option like the TP Link Deco X60 and wire them, save some money that way.

    • @dukebeach1
      @dukebeach1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in the exact same position. Lots of wired Cat 5 built in 2005. I'm out in the country though, and the fastest internet provider I could find (Rise Broadband) is 25 mbps down/5 mbps up, and that's on a very good day. I usually get 15 and change.
      I purchased the X90 because of the range... I hope. I have unboxed it, but haven't done the install yet because they kids are using the network for school right now. I have a long home with a walkout basement and I just haven't been able to get the coverage I need. The speed is limited by the ISP, so it's really not an issue. I get jealous when I see posts where people complain, "I only got 720 mbps when I'm supposed to get 1G!!". Oh, I wish I had that problem.
      That did you end up getting? Are you happy with the results?

    My house is wired to one 20 port switch can I plug these in to the same switch to coverall 3 floors

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, I don't know what your 20 port switch is connected to. Is that connected to a modem/router combo?
      The short answer is no, when you connect your X90 to the internet source, then you have to go from this X90 to the other X90. Now you could have a switch between the X90's. Typically this is how you connect them:
      Modem > X90 > X90
      Or
      Modem > X90 > switch > all other X90's
      In your case, you have a switch for the internet source, is that connected to a modem/router combo? If so you may need to run the X90 in access point mode or disable that router portion of the modem/router combo assuming you have access to it.

      Yes you can add another X90, in fact you can add any other Deco to this setup. You can add a Deco X60 to two of these X90's if you wanted so as long as it's a Deco but it's probably better if you stick within the same model and keep it a X90.

    Just a question, I've seen the specs of the tri-band of this and it has a maximum speed of 4.8gbps, and I also know that when you connect it via ethernet it will automatically switch it to the wired connection, so how does the system works knowing that the tri band has faster speeds (4.8gbps) than the wire (2.5gbps assuming you've used this port)? Will it still prioritize the wired connection or the other way around?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That 4.8Gbps is more of a theory number than an actual number from what I can tell. This thing uses the third band to talk to each other over wireless backhaul (at least that's how most of the mesh wifi's work, there are exceptions to this rule) but even with that, it got nowhere near those speeds whereas with ethernet, it's almost guaranteed to deliver those speeds cause it's on a wire (no interference from anything else). Wireless has to go through walls and there are other signals in the air and much more so all those numbers are theory.
      Take the ASUS ET8 which is the fastest mesh wifi I have tested. It supports WiFi 6E (6GHz) and it supports a speed of 4.8Gbps as well on that band. I did a speed test from my Samsung S21 Ultra (does support WiFi 6E) right next to the router and the fastest speeds I got where close to 1.9Gbps. When I used them as wireless backhaul, I got less than that performing the same test. Wired tends to be better.

This is not a sign of stable firmware, know this cause when AMD's new CPU's came out vendors like Asus, MSI etc were pushing updates weekly, certainly monthly just to fix all the issues they had... Meanwhile Intel platforms only got updates a few times in a year cause their firmware was simply more mature and more stable. Even you yourself reported devices disconnecting from XT8 and you only had it for short while. There are tons of people talking about XT8 stability issues on reviews and various sites like Reddit.
