Vuze XR Wi Fi Set up

  • I've had a number of people ask me about the Wi-Fi settings on the Vuze XR camera when using an iPhone. Connecting the camera is easy enough, but you also want to change the connection type from Automatic to Manual. By doing this you're insured that your phone doesn't think that your Vuze camera is a Wi-Fi connection and try to send data to your camera. This short little video will step you through the process. Let me know if you have any questions, follow me, subscribe and give me a thumbs up!

Unfortunately, it seems that in order to broadcast live, you need a CELLULAR connection as well as wifi active on your phone. I spent hours trying to find a workaround, but it appears that the only way to broadcast a live stream is if your phone also has a sim card with cellular connection. I was using un-simmed iphones and trying to slave them to my three Vuze XRs. Sadness!

This was all confusing to me when I got my XR because it was different from other wifi devices I have owned that use a local wifi network rather than exclusively create their own.
I think it would have been helpful in this video, after the manual setup, to start completely over (exit the XR app completely, select a local wifi in Settings, turn the camera off). So, from my experience, 1) turn on the camera and press the wifi button, 2) go to the phone’s Settings and the select the XR wifi, 3) open the XR app (which should now be connected to wifi). And point out, that you have to do this EVERY time you NEED connectivity with the phone or desktop computer.
You folks must know your customers’ use cases, but my use case is that I would only use wifi to move items from the camera to my desktop computer for editing and using my local network would be easiest (and right now, I just remove the SD card and plug it in to my computer - but it would be so much easier to automatically connect to my home wifi network). Yes, I guess you need your own wifi network “in the field” and maybe that is your major customer base, but I would guess many exclusively do transfers at home or office (and hardly use the “live” feature???)

Thanks for the insight, you're the first person I've heard from that uses Wi-Fi to transfer data to a computer. Almost all our users use the Wi-Fi to transfer from the camera to their mobile phone, then to social media. (Live streaming too). So, point taken and thanks for the insight.
One more note: I personally use either the USB connection or put the microSD into a card reader when I move my data to the computer.
      Thanks again...

@@JimMalcolm Well, I'm not actually your first to transfer data from a device to a computer using wifi, because I don't do that (but something close to that via Apple's AirDrop). That was more of a suggestion or wish ;) Between Oculus Go with a microUSB cable, VuzeXR with a USB-C cable, Android File Transfer, VR180 Creator, VuzeVRStudio, Final Cut Pro X, etc. I do wish everything was integrated and wireless. So, I agree with you, using the cable to transfer media to the desktop is probably the easiest.
And I'm not much of a social guy, as I would not dream of downloading to my camera, adjusting here and there, and then uploading to social media. I want to add titles, graphics, edit footage, etc. on a big screen and then publish (mostly to TH-cam). I guess kids do everything with a phone.
As an Apple guy, MacOS and iOS, I have to say that I feel like a beta-tester for Vuze's software. I've contacted support several times with questions - some answered, some ignored. I bought the VuzeXR for its higher 5.7k resolution for a consumer device. But then I found that you cannot do anything with 5.7k media with the iOS app (although pretty impressive with 4K stuff). And VuzeVRStudio on the Mac must be a work-in-progress with its undocumented features, and archaic Unix-style file browser. It's obvious the Studio is not a native Mac application but a conglomeration of old open source stuff in a Mac shell. But I'm holding out for better things :)

On android it asks me to setup WiFi direct so it automatically allows internet and direct contact simultaneously on my phone?

    • @JimMalcolm

Yes, that is correct; you don't need to take these steps on Android.
