The most innovative corps in dci in the mid to late seventies. There was always excitement in the stands when they were com6into the stadium.

OMG Thank you for posting this documentary!! The memories this brings back are incredible. I was the tymp player for this show and it was one of the most incredible performances we had ever done.

The guard was so exciting, as always. I was in that snare line. So much fun.

One afternoon in the late 1970s, I pass the back of a schoolyard and I see flags flying in the air. That day, I meet Drum Corps for the first time in my life and It was 27th Lancers. How lucky I was! I have so many questions regarding that incredible and talented drum corps. Maybe someone will read me and will have the kindness of respond me. I will try to be summarized. 1) Where does the name 27th Lancers come from? 2) Why they choose the colors black, yellow and red with yellow stripes for the flags? And a last one ... 3) Why It was impossible to continue in the activity like Blue Devils, Vanguard, Cadets, etc.? 27th Lancers will be in my heart forever. Thank you for that video and thank you all of you in that wonderful activity. JP from Québec.

Pray the reply is not too late. Cannot answer 3) but for 1) - Legend has it that the name comes from a scene in the movie "Charge of the Light Brigade" that the founders of the corps (Mr. and Mrs. Bonfiglio) were watching. The scene featured Errol Flynn reporting that the "27th Lancers are here and ready for duty." and for 2) - Jegend has it that the flag was designed by George Zingali, part of his vision for the overall visual effect of the Corps. (as an aside of the flag - 27th was not allowed to use it during the performance at the 1980 Winter Olympics because it looked like the flag of Belgium) thank you for asking (merci de demander?)

In my opinion, unfortunately DCI never encouraged the kids after they aged out of the age 21 to go on to a senior drum and bugle Corps. When I aged out of Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York I joined the Long Island sunrises senior drum and bugle Corps from 1964 through 1968 call fdci would have encouraged the kids to join a senior c o r p s, would have increased the attendance and the activity overall it would perpetuate forever and ever

Yes, that's when we had Real Drum and bugle Corp. Not marching bands of today superimposed on a three ring circus. We lost one of the greatest youth activities in our country, in my opinion thanks to DCI, pricing many many, Real Drum and bugle Corps based out of business, and never encouraging kids to go onto a senior drum Corps once they aged out.

@@americanspirit8932 We don’t quite share the same viewpoints on the current activity, but we do share a deep love of the old school!

Congratulations, what a great accomplishment. 27th Lancers were always one of my favorite Real Drum and bugle Corps. I was a member of olph from Brooklyn New York, join the Floyd Bennett Open labels 1960 and 1961, also from Brooklyn New York, when I turn 21 I joined the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 through 1968. Today is June 4th 2022. Thank you so much for this post, you really made my day.

So many familiar faces in there. Former instructors, friends, people I competed with and against, as well as would later perform together with years later. 27 was Drum Corp in New England. They set a very high bar. I wish I could have been there tht night, but Uncle Sam was not giving me the time off.

Had to tell everyone around here to stop sniffling and crying at 40:39 so I could hear the music. Then I realized I was watching by myself.

Never could stand them. Gag. Hated their music shows, and dont get me started on the Danny Boy stuff. I went and got a hot dog when that aging overplayed song came on. That sucked
This performance was not in sync in several places. Good riddance
