    You're an absolute godsend, man. I lost my job a few days ago and I'm trying to figure out my best options for making money from music somehow. My first goal is making at least $200 in the next couple of months to pay off car insurance (didn't have enough to pay it when I got fired).
    I heard livestreaming is a potential "big future" for music and was wondering how exactly I'd set it all up if I'm gonna try. I figure it's a good way to grow whatever name I go with while I try to do licensing/commission work.
    Thank you!

    I really like that you divided the video into chapters. Earlier I only saw it done on Vimeo, so I thought it wasn't possible on TH-cam.
    Well, you have proven its possible, and I look forward to see it being used more.
    And as usual, another great video you've done ;-)

    On windows you can use a reaper plugin call reastream (reaper as all their plugins in vst form for other daws) on your master track and on obs you can use that plugin as a receiver for that master track. i had very good results!!!! better than loopback on mac.

    Bo, thanks for this video. There's so much useful info, I can see this took a long time! Nice job, man. I was wondering, with the multi-cam live stream setup, are you using this same setup to record your videos? Say the section from 5:49 to about 11:00. Are you recording all of these cameras at once and then editing them? Or are you using the live stream setup and switcher to record them thru OBS? Thanks again, Bo!

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks buddy. Normally when I make videos I record onto SD cards for maximum flexibility. But I have done videos where I live switch and simply cut together stuff quickly in FCP. That is very fast but if you mess up an angle it is annoying. So its flexibility VS speed. I could basically do all my videos thru live switching if I wanted too.

    • @424Recording
      @424Recording 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoBeats Hey, Bo! Thanks for taking a sec to reply, man. I know you're busy over there. Very cool. I was curious as to how you approached your process. It'd be awesome if there was a way to record all three angles thru OBS at the same time; personally, lining up multiple angles and syncing everything up is a pain. I bet there's a plugin or something for OBS that once you hit stop on a recording, OBS exports all angles as separate files as the cameras are all running in the background whether you're switching to them or not... anyway, thanks, dude. I hope you've been well!

    I got a potential fix in regard to a solution to record DAW on a PC with audio interface and it's pretty cost effective - take the headphone out of an interface and plug it into the default tower mic or motherboard line in (be sure to make it sound clean in the sound properties level settings) and create an audio capture. this has been my solution to capturing my beat making in obs

      Yepp. Its very solid. I just looked at US prices and they seem really good (1000 usd) but in europe its pricey. A cheap alternative is Black Magic Atem Mini. Its not comparable on the audio side but could be an option.

    Love ROLAND, but the new Black Magic ATEM Pro is a killer video mixer thats just come out. 4 inputs, and can be used for OBS or just shows up as a webcam for Teams/Zoom feeds. I love it. Gotta upgrade the cameras, but it's a great hub.

    This was a particularly excellent overview, Bo! I am eyeing the dark side of Apple after dealing with getting it working in Windows... My current workaround is a physical loopback on a Focusrite interface that doesn’t have virtual loopbacks - a literal dual TRS cable from the outputs to the first two inputs, with those first two inputs set up for direct monitoring in MixControl. This might be a workaround for those on Windows without a newer interface and who do not want to buy a second interface.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats actually a workaround Ive tried but totally forgot about it. Thanks for bringing it up!

    Thanks so much I really appreciate so many good tips and clear explanations. I plan to stream a 20 minute show and my laptop is a MacBook Air which gets very hot and noisy! I am using a iPhone and iPad as 2 different cameras in OBS using Epocam and NDI camera. Are there any settings in OBS which might help to lower cpu?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d say you could try 720p instead of 1080p and also try lower bitrate to say 2000.

    Thank you for the in depth explanation BoBeats! I've been searching all week for someone who streams and also uses Ableton to produce.
    Have you tried using the Roland VR 1HD to stream while producing from your separate production Mac? This is the set up I'm interested in and about to put in my order for the VR1. Hoping you can give me some feedback with latency and set up.
    Also, when using the Loopback software to stream while producing in Ableton, did your Ableton session crash? I've heard of friends who had to use a separate laptop because they kept on running issues since they were taxing their production laptop with too many vsts running.
    Any tips and advice is much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    Question: since your cameras are using HDMI, are you using OBS, or the VR-1HD system menu, or both to fix the latency issue between video and audio? I use the line-in to capture my DJ mixer's music, and Mic 1 to use the wireless mic. I think the webcam may have a little latency, but the latency I'm experiencing on the HDMI side (I use Sony ZV-1...two of them) has latency of about a 1/2 second between when I clap and that clapping showing up as video in OBS. What say you?

  • @msetrakian
    @msetrakian 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dear Bo, thank you for this fantastic video! Very inspiring. I'm thinking of setting up a small rig similar to yours, and 4K throughput of my main monitor is important (understanding that the main output is scaled to 1080p). In your section about the VR-1HD you point out that the three HDMI inputs can scale 4K input, and I have read that it has a zero latency HDMI through feature that is exactly what I need. However, all the documentation I can find says it can only take up to 1920 x 1200 input, not 4K. Maybe EDID is setting your camera to HD? Can you tell us a little more about input scaling and the HDMI through feature? Thank you!!

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! So I have my cameras set to 4K and the vr1hd scales the inputs. But be mindful I have only tested this with Canon cameras. I wouldn’t dare say it works 100% with any brand as there’s always plenty of things that can go wrong.

    Question about the Roland VR-1HD.
    Is it possible to separate sources without using the given presets? For example, Let's say I want to Split cameras 1 & 2 down the middle, but am I then able to put the 3rd camera in OBS someplace else? Someplace that isn't a preset? It seems like there's no way to separate the camera input once they get into the VR-1HD unless it's part of the VR-1HD programming.
    I'm curious also if it's possible to set a picture in picture with green screen at the VERY bottom of the screen so there's no gap, similar to how many game streamers will do. I want to have Camera 1 on a scene, like a painting on a canvas, and see the painter in the bottom corner with no gap between them and the bottom of the screen.

    39:00 Talking about the loopback functionality you also mention the Arturia AudioFuse Studio. This was one of the first things I tried after I bought it two months ago because I assumed this would be a neat solution. Maybe I’m missing something but at least on my Windows system the Loopback channels actually don’t show up as an audio source in OBS (they work fine inside Ableton Live). Did you actually test it?

    • @PantaFlux
      @PantaFlux 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wait … when adding a new Audio Input Capture device in OBS the loopback channels from the AudioFuse Studio show up. I always expected it in the main audio settings. Works like a charm now!

    I've had mixed results on my Mac with OBS, so I resorted to doing all streaming on my PC (I use Xsplit, because I bought a lifetime license a while ago and also use it for Twitch streams). I would love to try your suggestions and see if I can switch my streaming to my Mac because of the lower latency of Core Audio drivers on Mac vs ASIO drivers on PC.

    To get even lighting for videorecording indoors i've had the idea to, instead of using umbrella-type lighting setups like Bo had, use one or two 60x60 cm office ceiling LED-panels. Is there anyone here who has tried that?
