How Patrón Makes Its Tequila

  • Patrón tequila is considered ultra premium tequila, which makes it one of the most expensive spirits you can buy. A top shelf handmade crystal bottle can cost as much as $7,500. Each bottle of tequila is made with the same recipe the company used on its first day of operation at the Jalisco distillery in 2002. Today, Patrón employees cork 80 tequila bottles per minute.

    Several years ago, I was very good friends with a professional couple who worked in a famous medical research and treatment center near Los Angeles. They had family roots in the Tijuana area in Mexico, and a few times a year they would travel down there to visit family and shop. We went with them once or twice, and one of the remarkable things I discovered was that they would buy bottles of tequila, very expensive brands, and bring them back to Los Angeles to serve to acquaintances and friends at parties. It was very impressive to see such expensive bottles of tequila arrayed on the bar shelves in their home. What I discovered, though, was that they never paid more than $5 for each of these bottles of tequila. Otherwise, these bottles and their contents looked exactly like bottles costing much much more. And their guests never complained.

    I'm always amazed on how humans can make Booze out of anything.
    I mean look at that plant. You can't eat it. But somehow someone thought to make booze out of it.

    • @cactusfarmer
      @cactusfarmer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe you could eat it. I read once that the first inhabitants knew it to be edible because the animals ate it. "Human remains dating back at least 10,000 years show the early uses of agave for food and fiber. The agave plant has long been part of human culture and was already ancient when the Spaniard Conquistadors arrived in 1492. By 1520, it was exported into the Old World. Agave is mentioned as a food of the Aztecs and natives in the Florentine Codex of 1580. " - IOAA Agave Ancient History

  • @DheerajPaleri
    @DheerajPaleri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Okay. Here is some extra information.
    Blue Agave takes 7-10 years to reach harvest and it demands a huge area of land to cultivate it in a cyclical system to continue production.
    The pines are steamed and crushed to make the juice which will be further fermented and distilled twice to make tequila.
    Well, the region of Tequila in Mexico produced the earlier brands of tequila and those are limited to somewhat around seven families/companies. Only those brands and those who paid them to use the term are allowed to use the term 'tequila' and the rest are just blue agave liquor.

    I’m from Los Altos Region in Jalisco, Patron is made in Arandas also in Los Altos. The agave head has to steam for 24 hrs 350* then cool off for 18 hrs. Before they extract the juice to start the fermentation process. It’s a lot of work , but it is also extremely fascinating to watch the process from start to bottle. Salud!

      Not really. Siete Leguas is much better. Don't fall prey to great marketing and presentation. It's what's inside the bottle that counts.

      Something funny about college kids drinking Patron and eating easy mac 😂. I get it though, there was always someone who would buy expensive stuff, where I was fine drinking Karkov and Keystone Light. Cant do it anymore though..
