    Wallie is in my hometown! I freaked out when I saw this lol. I used to go to that Gabe's you can see in the video when your checking out the bar all the time. I can't imagine going to Gabe's and seeing you check out that place. Anyways your correct, it has been closed AT LEAST 10 years and I'd guess even longer. This was originally built as a Joe's Crab Shack.

    I have ate at this one before. There is one still open here in Columbia, SC in a Petro truck stop. There is also a bowling alley and a Starbucks in this same truckstop. It sits off interstate 77 on exit 5.

    The Quaker Steak & Lube franchise in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania has also been closed permanently, but unlike this Pineville, North Carolina franchise, the pandemic was held responsible for its closure among many other businesses.

    I live in Charlotte and that whole shopping center and everything in the immediate area is slowly on its way out. Once Kmart closed, others followed one by one. No one wants to shop over there anymore. The mall across from the ToysRUs is on a decline and seeing shootings and other crime frequently (the last being a shooting inside the mall just a week ago). You risk your safety wherever you go, anything can happen anywhere, but it’s just not worth the risk when you can drive 15-20 minutes out to the same stores in a safer area. I don’t remember it being anything like that when I was younger, but it is what it is.

  • @jah8199
    @jah8199 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That was DEFINITELY used as something after the Quaker steak days, because that looks nothing like a Quaker steak inside.
    We had one in state college pa in the early-mid 2000s, it was only open a few years then the owner stopped paying franchise fees. This of course didn’t go down well with Quaker steak and they ordered them to close. And close they did! Literally just walked out and left everything as it was, and I truly mean that literally.
    Food and drinks still on the tables, food in the kitchen, nothing cleaned out. It sat like that for three years and fell rapidly into disrepair. I believe the building was even condemned for a while.
    It was eventually bought by a local restaurant named ottos and they renovated and repaired it and it’s still in operation today.
    Would’ve been a cool explore for you if you were doing this back in the day.
    It is a HUGE restaurant too, which I believe played a part in its failure. Restaurant industry is extremely tricky and competitive in state college.

  • @matthewcaughey8898
    @matthewcaughey8898 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This QS&L is a post Trans America takeover place. For those not knowing Trans America truck stops took the chain over a few years back. The main location in Sharon PA had been closed by the health department cause the owners were just not putting money back into the operation. They were just using the name to sell commercial hot sauce. The chain declared chapter 7 and TA swooped in cause they saw an opportunity to add a wing place to their travel plazas and the steady revenue chain that stuff in the supermarket generated. It was a few years back when I was at the one in Sharon and it had retained the car related theme but it had been cleaned up quite a bit from the time I had been there 20 years prior. It had the same corporate look but it had retained its uniqueness. Unfortunately the wings are nowhere near as good as they were and the atomic ones are just too much spice ( guess the corporate overlords neutered it). It an Ok place these days but it’s lost some of its grungy charm that made it unique. Like anything corporate owned it just lacks soul, thankfully it’s at least still there. But if you want good wings then I suggest Chicken Nicks or the Duss Ave cafe in Ambridge pa. If you want chicken wings this is the place to get em
