(SPOILERS BEYOND) When eventually one of the mahlers is scarred in a way that signifies he is most definitely the original of the two that exists, in which he immediately starts to lowering it over the other, in which that one immediately without hesitation murders him, which he also then proceeds to make the next clone. Because the not scarred one understood that they could not have this dynamic and properly function as a team, so killed the one that knew he was original of the current ones, and made sure that himself didn't, so this couldn't happen again
