These flight simulators really recommend a joystick. I find it also impossible to fly an aircraft using a trackpad/mouse.

What are the specs of the PC/laptop you run?
sim how do you launch flares and set the brakes
Vinny Trefethen Q to fire flares but not sure about wheel brakes... You can use P to open the drag chutes though incase that helps :)

I just don't like them because the crash models are terrible. Whenever any plane hits the ground it's e same crash model over and over agian. Fire and explosions ohhhh pretty.

there isnt much of a focus on the crashes. the main focus is the actual combat in the game.
