I am Armenian. I just realized that Gorky is Armenian, I really liked his work that I saw in the US museums, perhaps because of it. Great paiter, beautiful Armenian soul.
I was looking Arshile Gorky's works in New York main museums, and recently In Washington DC National Art Galleria and Philip's Collection..... All of them have Gorky but not a single display. Everywhere I was asking WHY you don't have on display. Only one answer made a sense to me, " maybe he don't have a sponsor ". So pity, I didn't have time to visit the abstract galleria. Hope next time to enjoy his Art.
This is an amazing story. Mostly untold in the art history lectures. The most telling part at first watching was the bit about the farmer cutting the grass. "it broke his heart, he was slugged again." This is an artist. The intensity of experience- of interaction is complex and mostly unfathomable. "Slugged again." Few of us even know what that must mean and yet- it is the province of most artists. Thank you for this documentary.
Well said Sir. This man saw everyone thru his soul. There was no obstacle. When a person suffers as much as he did. One has two choices only. Keep the suffering all the way till you die or search for the beauty of life even in the smallest sightings.
@@ivonned32 Thank you!. It was just so poignant, amplified by the fact that Gorky was but a passing footnote in a survey art history lecture. I learned later that art history is built from the stories- stories of every artist and every art work. They are mostly lost in then :"facts" teachers put forth.
i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Maverick Graysen Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I was very fortunate to learn about Ashile Gorky in my very first art class; the professor liked my work, and said it reminded him of Gorky; I love his work still, more than 50 years later. An absolute un-compromised genius. Thanks for the insight on his relationships to other artists, deKooning in particular .. Many Thanks
Great job! Nice video with a natural look out of the regular sofisticated videos from galleries. Gorky's wife is very impressive, a real elegant lady. Congratulations
The natural halo he carries around with him when lying and cheating looks good . It must have been a tricky shot for the photographer waiting for it to appear.
I studied with a pupil of Arshile Gorky who worked at his studio in New York....Will always remember: The last Statement on a long banner across the studio: "Goodby my Beloveds.." Arshile Gorky passed by suicide. But recollections of stories of Gorky and his art...beyond description...a kind, lonely man...

As a Turk, I respect Arshile Gorky a lot. Just like any past and present artist, he deserves a praise.

Great
Gorky è stato un pittore eccezionale
I love how his wife calls him Gorky
She has a hidden resentment of him until today , and alot of guilt on her own actions leading up to his suicide .. that's my feeling anyway.
❤
He had quite an imagination, the imagination of a child.
exactly - the imagination of a child
Why monetize this video?? So disturbing ads!
"The liver is the cocks comb" is the greatest painting from Abstract expressionism.

At the very end of this documentary it does show you the names of the producers and the people who filmed it as well as those who did the music
How is his widow alive in 2019? When was that footage filmed?
i believe the footage of his widow is from the 2011 doc by Cosima, "Without Gorky." Really incredible and gorgeous & on Netflix. Highly recommended
@@renefranco8966 Thank you.I will watch it!
It’s sad that a lot of great artist who produce magnificent work are assholes. I kind of understand and I am suspicious on how his studio burned down.
there were many envious concurrents who wanted to destroy him.
Please can you tell us anything more about this -- ?
