I believe there is no canon explanation for this, but I personally see Yumi as a lefty. Not only does she write with her left hand, but Left handed people tend to be much more skilled with both hands too.

I remember that episode. If Yumi couldn’t use her hands in that episode meaning Ami had to do exactly everything for her here, that means she even had to help her when she’s using that bathroom and changing her clothes and especially later on in this episode, they were in their bathing suits at the beach! That was just be super awkward do things like that even if they really need it, don’t you think? It’s obvious that those things aren’t in that episode, but still! We all know what we have to do!
