  • Books about grief are sometimes overly complicated, or assume that each person has the same experience when they're grieving. I like this book a lot because it portrays in a very simple way that sometimes grief can take many forms including anger, sadness, and fear. I also love the analogy of waves for the grief, to demonstrate that grief doesn't feel the same all the time, but often comes on very strong, and ebbs and flows like waves. Even when the loss happened a long time ago, a wave still might come and hit you unexpectedly. I also love that this book talks about how it's okay to have happy moments side by side with your grief - the description of this boy's grieving process leaves room for both happiness and sadness.
