To me, that makes no sense. In season 1, Corlys says he wouldn't cast a bigger shadow on Laenor's offspring. But here, he's willing to f*ck Joffrey over in order to name Baela heiress. Or maybe it's because Joff has been sent away.

The Freys wanting Harrenhal seems to be foreshadowing their house falling in the main series, right? Like how every house that takes over Harrenhal is inevitably cursed and dies out.
I don't understand why the f people liked episode 3 but are disliking this one. Both feel more like fanfiction than ASOIAF, which is weird, because this show overall feels more ASOIAF than Game of Thrones.
It's a cool down episode. You can't have a major event happening every week, unless you plan on acquiring a billion dollar budget. It was focused on character development for Jace and Baela mostly.
The parallel between Daemon and Aemond - including the whole mommy issues thing, especially THAT is killing me. 😭 I did not need that image of Alyssa ever in my life. 😭

I think this episode was sowing a lot of seeds that we are going to see flowering later in the series/season. I think that's why it felt the way it did. But we have the groundwork laid for unrest in Kings Landing, unrest in the Riverlands, dragon seeds, Corlys naming his bastard as heir air, etc
You know how society is now. If there isn't action and bloodletting in every episode, they gnash their teeth. They also don't know how to budget their own lives, but they can budget a series. Who knows what the effects of last episode cost.

This episode and last episode got me feeling a little something for Aegon. There’s Something heart wrenching about a young man calling out for him mom like a little kid. Tom Carneys acting has been 💯 this season, even if he was only in this episode for 1 min lol.
That dog is telling a story. Loyalty to the end is not a good path. They went to Cole saying what happened at Rooks Rest. He knows he is as good as dead being a Green. Especially as Aemonds hand.

Since nettles is cut, I think sheepstealer gonna be roaming the Vale where there is a plentiful amount of sheep. Jane would tell rhaena about a sheep eating dragon and try to get rhaena to bond with it. That way jane gets the dragon she’s wanted warding the eyrie and rhaena gets the dragon she’s always wanted.

Alicent got a taste of what Rhaenyra and Rhaenys got: pushed to the side for her sex. That long shot on her at the small council was powerful AF! And Crispy Cole acting afraid to make eye contact was priceless.
Olivia Cooke really shined, especially in the counsel meeting while she lost the little power she had left. I knew this would be filler but I expected a bit more after losing such a major player last week. They have barely fleshed out Larys scheme and they seem to be gunshy to show the brutality of what Daemon was asking the blackwoods to do to get the Brakens!!! They could have done more w that scene. I still love the show but this was a choppy episode. Best scene was the addition of the Freys at the crossing, had me thinking about the Starks! 😂🙏
Disagree. She shined in that meeting, yes. But her reaction when her character's son came to the castle in a coffin and when she watched him burnt, bloody and broken on the bed make me know for a fact that the actress was not a Mother. I looked it up and not only is she not a mother, but she's only 2 years older than the actor playing her son. Makes a ton of sense when you see the scene. She looks more like someone watching a beloved friend than her son.
I'm glad that they aren't reveling in gratuitous violence. The scene where the Riverlords take Daemon to task over the brutality hit really hard for me.

She protected them more when they were kids, but Aemond's has spoken about how he knows who she really is, so she's more distant now that they are adults. Her acting could come of either way. She also went through the loss of her husband and grandchild back-to-back, so someone could start feeling numb from this (especially because she feels powerless at this point). At the end of the day, it's a matter of interpretation.
So true. I know the character Alicent has already lost a husband and a grandchild and she is distant from Aegon but the actresses reaction at that moment really felt flat and I think could have been more expressive of some kind of horror or grief for her son's pain. @@oliviariv

I like all the dragon and military actions too but its interesting to see Daemon struggling and it will be interesting to see how they merge that with the "historical" entries in the Fire & Blood book that say Daemon was immune to Alys River's magic. But to your point that it seems like a waste of time... I do wish they had done 10 episodes for the season. then the Harrenhal scenes would work even better to inform the viewers of the struggles that Daemon is having without to take time away from other things as some viewers are suggesting. I will never complain about more episodes and more time spent in the Game of Thrones world. If only GoT had followed that in its final two seasons. How much better the last few episodes of season 8 would have been if they had 3 or 4 additional episodes in season 7 and 8 to add to the story.
I LOVED how you verbalized the issues with this episode. I really think the writers are struggling and this episode showed it the most. They're sacrificing a LOT to spend *so much* time with Daemon in Harrenhal, book readers know. And on top of it, I don't think their interpretation of Daemon or any conclusions they'll draw from the Harrenhal plot will be profound. They're just gonna say he has mommy issues and then have him submit to Rhaenyra and rejoin the cause. GRRM said Daemon is one of the most morally gray characters in his work. Morally gray, complicated Daemon is SEVERELY missed from the show 💔 💔 💔 💔 💔 PS - they better not cut Nettles out. I don't think they'd dare to lmao

I don't know why people are so bent outta shape over this. It was supposed to get us to feel exactly what Deomon was feeling. We get surprised at the end by that gross news, just like the character gets surprised and we start feeling massive discomfort just like the character does. That scene was very successful in doing what it set out to do. It was pretty brilliant.
@@oliviariv They try to play it off as if he didn't know it was his mother. But season 1 already revealed he was her favorite. We the audience was shocked because we've never seen Alyssa Targaryen on screen before so the reveal was a surprise. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he started trying to get with Baela.
This Daemon storyline is too long. I missed Aegon (I think we were missing that comedic relief). What worked best this episode: The small folk! I felt their fear. I wish they had paid more attention to them. Jace was & Rhaena did fantastic this episode. Now this was a palette cleaner! Now can they please give me a 3 course meal? (The last 3 episodes).

Sarah Hess has never understood Daemon’s character. She has always wanted to make him a villain, but people who know realize Daemon is a gray character. He can be a villain and a hero.
This part! I really feel like making Daemon a villain skews the whole storyline. Especially when they've made Rhaenyra so passive too. If Rhaenyra is passive and Daemond is completely evil, what are the real stakes at hand? Who are we rooting for?

1. Daemon's suit of armor in the beginning of this episode was 🔥. Rude boy drip. 2. I love the up close and personal camera work in this episode. 3. I believe Daemon and Caraxes have been under Alys's spell the moment they've entered the storm to Harrenhal and not at the exact castle. Just like how in Naruto Shippuden, Pain did a storm jutsu in the rain village in order to detect any intruders is how Alys's using a storm spell to find and draw people to Harrenhal.
I think this episode was a cooling down after last week's epic, fiery drama. This episode was bringing the story back to the human drama behind the War of the Dragons; no special effects. Olivia Cooke was brilliant- her seething rage as Alicent was sidelined; Bette Davis would be proud. Aegon's sad calling for his "Mummy" as Alicent left him alone was heartbreaking. I liked this episode.
@@lisarood9509 I don't know if you've ever seen the movie *_"Marvin's Room"_* starring Meryl Streep. Meryl plays a woman with a very troubled son, played by pre-Titanic Leonardo DiCaprio. There's this scene where Meryl says to Leo, _"My feelings for you are like a big bowl of fish hooks. I can't just pick one up; I pick one up and they all come, so I just leave them alone."_ I think that's how Alicent feels towards Aegon. She wants to love him, and she does on some level, but she's also contemptuous of him. It's a tragedy all around.
The greens initiated the decline of the Targaryen dynasty. Daemon was right to despise Otto. Speaking of Daemon, I am not enjoying the visions, feels useless and it’s dragging. Even being aware of the possibility that Daemon is to become a green-seer, then get on with it because it feels like we are wasting his character. I am also not enjoying their push on Daemon wanting the throne, it really makes his character lose depth. I hope they wrap this up quick on the next episode. I am not even that impressed with Alys, I like the old man Strong better.
What bothers me is it *any* point throughout his brothers reign if Daemon truly wanted the throne then quite simply he would’ve had it. He would have taken it. So like let’s wrap this up like especially as he’s one of the most important characters in the dance. Now I’m getting worried that they’re gonna screw up some of the things I’m looking forward to the most like the battle over the gods eye and hopefully we get the winter wolves. I mean we have to essentially, but I hope they keep those two exactly from the book because it’s perfect .

I mean pretty much all of his books to see what they have to say and like the book readers who support team green I’m always fascinated to know why especially as so obvious that the book is against her from the start. And I know someone’s gonna say “boo hoo! look a woman cried sexism!” but that’s kind of the thing is that blowing my mind more than anything especially as Rhaenyra was taught to rule, a cupbearer so attended small council meetings since she was a child etc. , she had her indiscretions however she was the heir. I do think she should’ve been smarter because I mean it’s so heavily implied that the conqueror himself was sterile and rhaneys got with the dude who looked like him which honestly that’s what Nyra should have done, but who in the hell could she really have trusted at that point. Also, I think them taking out the queen who never was having black hair was a mistake as well. The book is filled with unreliable narrators. You can’t get a good idea of what’s going on until the regency and that’s because there’s so many people around at that point. You have to read between the lines sooo much and come to your own conclusions. While I’m just heavily disappointed at some of the changes they made and then some parts I have enjoyed. But Especially as they have source material that they could interpret anyway, but when you’ve got it incredibly biased historian for team green, saying that daemon didn’t do any of this crap then come tf on man. It’s frustrating. It’s always frustrating when they adapt a book into a TV show or a movie for a fan/reader of the book(s) but at this point it’s just kind of getting to be infuriating because there’s so much they could play around with and this is the hill they’re choosing to die on ????
“Aemond is what everyone thought Daemon was” is literally the truest statement I have yet to hear another say. Everyone was so scared of Daemon on the throne that now they have Aemond.
Larys was correct. Now, Alicent is on the verge of tears. Did she forget she lives in patricarchy?!?! Alicent believes in Westeros’ agnatic primogeniture as long as she doesn't have to abide by it. Then we know what he (Aemond) is… Cmon Alicent… as if she did not play a hand in creating him. The show had him as a sweet child. She allowed Aegon (and continues to allow him) to torment his brother (as well as others) for years without recompense-or even acknowledgment. As if, at that time in history, they would allow an outsider to rule; Alicent does not have Targaryen blood and she is a woman. This is the reason Rhaenys was passed over. The reason Rhaenyra fights for her throne. AND THEY ARE OF FIRE AND BLOOD. She was merely a vessel.
Thought it was a great episode, I don't mind well written filler lol. I appreciated the conversations and the nuances in each, they highlighted how war (and strategizing for it) is never straight forward. It's interesting to watch the shifting/tested loyalties, and yes the best parts were definitely Baela and Jace.. Can't wait till next week! 🔥
I expected this to happen as far as it being a story driven episode as opposed to action and explosions and excitement. Makes sense to me, but Daemon’s story line is being milked at this point.

I think Aemond is driven (mad?) by sharing a soul/mind with his ancient dragon. She herself seems a bit mad from age (dragon dementia?) or perhaps the pain of destroying her own soulmate at her own command. I have a little head canon about how that may have made her want revenge against Daemon, or just mad with a contradictory order like the HAL computer or robot from Forbidden Planet.

Dude daemon was loyal to nyra to the end. I think he had more of a daughter father relationship with nettles (him&nyra did have an open marriage however, I think it was agreed-upon for them to not have emotional affairs) and I hope the show goes with that. It probably won’t, but I hate how they’re destroying his character. Daemon literally literally gives up and doesn’t want to even live anymore when he sees how far gone the love of his life.(the man loved his family more than anything.) and he makes it his final mission to take down her biggest opponent. So what they are doing him is a just a damn shame and a crime.
It seems people who know anything about this story are staring to wake and see all the holes... there are many. in trying to modify the story they are making it INCOHERENT

They need to show us more dragons and dragon riders interacting with their dragons. I wanted to see Sunfyre with the garrison, Jace riding Vermax, Vermax in the north like give me more dragons not just when it’s time for war.
I noticed that there is more foreshadowing in this episode than any other episode to date. From Daemon telling Alys that Aemond would kill her on sight to Alfred Broome telling Rhaenyra he'd never go over to the Green side, they're doing so much to set up expectations, and then break them which is good.
The way I see the Daemon arc is that it isn't about Daemon at all. It is the dreams showing him Aemond. It is Aemond that has mommy issues, Aemond that is willing to kill his family for the throne. Once this arc is wrapped up Daemon will have great insight into the inner workings of Aemond's mind.

I’m a HUGE HUGE GOT HOTD fan and I watched episode 1-4 just before this one for the 2nd time and found myself fast forwarding through the HH haunting shit, it first interest me it’s like watching something unrelated like a gothic old English horror which is fine just not in the middle of HOTD episodes ❤❤
I loved this episode imo. The Weirwood stuff is getting interesting AND we got a MAJOR lore easter egg at the end which implied something from F&B (that it's NOT just Targaryns or even Valyrians that can dragonride)

The story of the war is a great tragedy, but we don't need the level of depravity and incompetence that they're showing on both sides.
"i will conquer a cool castle and assert myself as viserys' heir and be an epic dragon king to make the people i love pay attention to me" is almost the exact same move he pulled with dragonstone in season 1, daemon is lashing out because he's frustrated he pushed himself away from rhaenyra and he's forced to confront his deepest insecurities. this is consistent with his previous behaviour.

I felt back in the scene a few episodes ago where Rhaenyra went to talk to Alicent that this show might be jumping the shark, and what they're doing with Daemon is confirming it.
I think we're all suffering from some weird tunnel vision here: we know the books, we know the Dance, we know Fire and Blood, so it feels like it's dragging. But watching this with some non readers (my family), they're really invested. Daemon on Harrenhall is keeping them wondering if he'll actually betray Rhaenyra and put forward his own claim. Those weird(wood tree's) dreams are great at making an unsuspecting audience doubtful about what they know or if they really know the characters. This episode was the aftermath of a great loss for both bands, the image of Targaryen power grows weaker, and fear looms over the whole kingdom. Rook's Rest showed the realm that dragons are just flesh like them, and the Targaryens are no closer to gods than any.
I have to disagree the non readers have not doubt about Daemon's intentions since the writers are making him up to be an antagonist. S1 Daemon was grey and people were questioning his loyalty to his family does he love them or does he love only himself? S2 Daemon is a straight up a villain in all but name. They ruined the character. Once he goes back to Dragonstone, the writers will pull out the "Forget about all what he said in the previous episodes, he is loyal to Rhaenyra " card that will be a major plot hole imo.
@@Chasingdreams25 there are already many plot holes... by the time people wake up, to the fact that these guys have been fumbling since, Rhaenys at the coronation, at the end of last season... whilst everything was going well for almost the entirety of season 1.
@@Chasingdreams25 I mean, I'm telling you what I see with my family and they're really weirded out and invested in Daemon. Maybe your own experience with your family and friends is different, but mine seems very positive. The show keeps them wondering after seeing Daemon do some amazing things and some questionable things in season 1. They know Harrenhall and the Old Gods are messing up his mind. In my own personal experience, they're expecting to see what will happen to him or what will he do next. None has called him straight up villainous or evil.

I think this episode was sowing a lot of seeds that we are going to see flowering later in the series/season. I think that's why it felt the way it did. But we have the groundwork laid for unrest in Kings Landing, unrest in the Riverlands, dragon seeds, Corlys naming his bastard as heir air, etc

Olivia Cooke really shined, especially in the counsel meeting while she lost the little power she had left. I knew this would be filler but I expected a bit more after losing such a major player last week. They have barely fleshed out Larys scheme and they seem to be gunshy to show the brutality of what Daemon was asking the blackwoods to do to get the Brakens!!! They could have done more w that scene. I still love the show but this was a choppy episode. Best scene was the addition of the Freys at the crossing, had me thinking about the Starks! 😂🙏

But her reaction when her character's son came to the castle in a coffin and when she watched him burnt, bloody and broken on the bed make me know for a fact that the actress was not a Mother. I looked it up and not only is she not a mother, but she's only 2 years older than the actor playing her son. Makes a ton of sense when you see the scene. She looks more like someone watching a beloved friend than her son.
I'm glad that they aren't reveling in gratuitous violence. The scene where the Riverlords take Daemon to task over the brutality hit really hard for me.

She protected them more when they were kids, but Aemond's has spoken about how he knows who she really is, so she's more distant now that they are adults. Her acting could come of either way. She also went through the loss of her husband and grandchild back-to-back, so someone could start feeling numb from this (especially because she feels powerless at this point).
At the end of the day, it's a matter of interpretation.

I like all the dragon and military actions too but its interesting to see Daemon struggling and it will be interesting to see how they merge that with the "historical" entries in the Fire & Blood book that say Daemon was immune to Alys River's magic.
But to your point that it seems like a waste of time... I do wish they had done 10 episodes for the season. then the Harrenhal scenes would work even better to inform the viewers of the struggles that Daemon is having without to take time away from other things as some viewers are suggesting.
I will never complain about more episodes and more time spent in the Game of Thrones world. If only GoT had followed that in its final two seasons. How much better the last few episodes of season 8 would have been if they had 3 or 4 additional episodes in season 7 and 8 to add to the story.
I LOVED how you verbalized the issues with this episode. I really think the writers are struggling and this episode showed it the most. They're sacrificing a LOT to spend *so much* time with Daemon in Harrenhal, book readers know. And on top of it, I don't think their interpretation of Daemon or any conclusions they'll draw from the Harrenhal plot will be profound. They're just gonna say he has mommy issues and then have him submit to Rhaenyra and rejoin the cause.
GRRM said Daemon is one of the most morally gray characters in his work. Morally gray, complicated Daemon is SEVERELY missed from the show 💔 💔 💔 💔 💔

I don't know why people are so bent outta shape over this. It was supposed to get us to feel exactly what Deomon was feeling. We get surprised at the end by that gross news, just like the character gets surprised and we start feeling massive discomfort just like the character does. That scene was very successful in doing what it set out to do. It was pretty brilliant.

2. I love the up close and personal camera work in this episode.
3. I believe Daemon and Caraxes have been under Alys's spell the moment they've entered the storm to Harrenhal and not at the exact castle. Just like how in Naruto Shippuden, Pain did a storm jutsu in the rain village in order to detect any intruders is how Alys's using a storm spell to find and draw people to Harrenhal.
This episode was a mess. They just set lore on fire and roasted Daemon over it.

I think this episode was a cooling down after last week's epic, fiery drama. This episode was bringing the story back to the human drama behind the War of the Dragons; no special effects.
Olivia Cooke was brilliant- her seething rage as Alicent was sidelined; Bette Davis would be proud. Aegon's sad calling for his "Mummy" as Alicent left him alone was heartbreaking.

I think that's how Alicent feels towards Aegon. She wants to love him, and she does on some level, but she's also contemptuous of him.

The greens initiated the decline of the Targaryen dynasty. Daemon was right to despise Otto. Speaking of Daemon, I am not enjoying the visions, feels useless and it’s dragging. Even being aware of the possibility that Daemon is to become a green-seer, then get on with it because it feels like we are wasting his character. I am also not enjoying their push on Daemon wanting the throne, it really makes his character lose depth. I hope they wrap this up quick on the next episode. I am not even that impressed with Alys, I like the old man Strong better.
What bothers me is it *any* point throughout his brothers reign if Daemon truly wanted the throne then quite simply he would’ve had it. He would have taken it.
So like let’s wrap this up like especially as he’s one of the most important characters in the dance.
Now I’m getting worried that they’re gonna screw up some of the things I’m looking forward to the most like the battle over the gods eye and hopefully we get the winter wolves. I mean we have to essentially, but I hope they keep those two exactly from the book because it’s perfect .

I mean pretty much all of his books to see what they have to say and like the book readers who support team green I’m always fascinated to know why especially as so obvious that the book is against her from the start. And I know someone’s gonna say “boo hoo! look a woman cried sexism!” but that’s kind of the thing is that blowing my mind more than anything especially as Rhaenyra was taught to rule, a cupbearer so attended small council meetings since she was a child etc. , she had her indiscretions however she was the heir. I do think she should’ve been smarter because I mean it’s so heavily implied that the conqueror himself was sterile and rhaneys got with the dude who looked like him which honestly that’s what Nyra should have done, but who in the hell could she really have trusted at that point. Also, I think them taking out the queen who never was having black hair was a mistake as well.
The book is filled with unreliable narrators. You can’t get a good idea of what’s going on until the regency and that’s because there’s so many people around at that point. You have to read between the lines sooo much and come to your own conclusions.
While I’m just heavily disappointed at some of the changes they made and then some parts I have enjoyed.
But Especially as they have source material that they could interpret anyway, but when you’ve got it incredibly biased historian for team green, saying that daemon didn’t do any of this crap then come tf on man. It’s frustrating.
It’s always frustrating when they adapt a book into a TV show or a movie for a fan/reader of the book(s) but at this point it’s just kind of getting to be infuriating because there’s so much they could play around with and this is the hill they’re choosing to die on ????
“Aemond is what everyone thought Daemon was” is literally the truest statement I have yet to hear another say. Everyone was so scared of Daemon on the throne that now they have Aemond.
Larys was correct. Now, Alicent is on the verge of tears. Did she forget she lives in patricarchy?!?! Alicent believes in Westeros’ agnatic primogeniture as long as she doesn't have to abide by it.
Then we know what he (Aemond) is… Cmon Alicent… as if she did not play a hand in creating him. The show had him as a sweet child. She allowed Aegon (and continues to allow him) to torment his brother (as well as others) for years without recompense-or even acknowledgment. As if, at that time in history, they would allow an outsider to rule; Alicent does not have Targaryen blood and she is a woman. This is the reason Rhaenys was passed over. The reason Rhaenyra fights for her throne. AND THEY ARE OF FIRE AND BLOOD. She was merely a vessel.
Thought it was a great episode, I don't mind well written filler lol. I appreciated the conversations and the nuances in each, they highlighted how war (and strategizing for it) is never straight forward. It's interesting to watch the shifting/tested loyalties, and yes the best parts were definitely Baela and Jace.. Can't wait till next week! 🔥

I expected this to happen as far as it being a story driven episode as opposed to action and explosions and excitement. Makes sense to me, but Daemon’s story line is being milked at this point.
I like this episode. It needed an angry Corlys who was screaming at Rhaenyra for his wife’s death.

I think Aemond is driven (mad?) by sharing a soul/mind with his ancient dragon. She herself seems a bit mad from age (dragon dementia?) or perhaps the pain of destroying her own soulmate at her own command.
I have a little head canon about how that may have made her want revenge against Daemon, or just mad with a contradictory order like the HAL computer or robot from Forbidden Planet.

Dude daemon was loyal to nyra to the end. I think he had more of a daughter father relationship with nettles (him&nyra did have an open marriage however, I think it was agreed-upon for them to not have emotional affairs) and I hope the show goes with that. It probably won’t, but I hate how they’re destroying his character. Daemon literally literally gives up and doesn’t want to even live anymore when he sees how far gone the love of his life.(the man loved his family more than anything.) and he makes it his final mission to take down her biggest opponent. So what they are doing him is a just a damn shame and a crime.
It seems people who know anything about this story are staring to wake and see all the holes... there are many. in trying to modify the story they are making it INCOHERENT

They need to show us more dragons and dragon riders interacting with their dragons. I wanted to see Sunfyre with the garrison, Jace riding Vermax, Vermax in the north like give me more dragons not just when it’s time for war.

I noticed that there is more foreshadowing in this episode than any other episode to date. From Daemon telling Alys that Aemond would kill her on sight to Alfred Broome telling Rhaenyra he'd never go over to the Green side, they're doing so much to set up expectations, and then break them which is good.

The way I see the Daemon arc is that it isn't about Daemon at all. It is the dreams showing him Aemond. It is Aemond that has mommy issues, Aemond that is willing to kill his family for the throne. Once this arc is wrapped up Daemon will have great insight into the inner workings of Aemond's mind.

I’m a HUGE HUGE GOT HOTD fan and I watched episode 1-4 just before this one for the 2nd time and found myself fast forwarding through the HH haunting shit, it first interest me it’s like watching something unrelated like a gothic old English horror which is fine just not in the middle of HOTD episodes ❤❤

I was wary of S2 bc of rumors that are turning out to be true. They (I'm gonna blame Hess, since she's been the most vocal abt disliking Daemon), planned to dedicate alot of S2 to "deconstructing" Daemon's character...something no one wanted or needed, esp in the grand scheme of things of the Dance, precisely bc of what you said.

The story of the war is a great tragedy, but we don't need the level of depravity and incompetence that they're showing on both sides.

"i will conquer a cool castle and assert myself as viserys' heir and be an epic dragon king to make the people i love pay attention to me" is almost the exact same move he pulled with dragonstone in season 1, daemon is lashing out because he's frustrated he pushed himself away from rhaenyra and he's forced to confront his deepest insecurities. this is consistent with his previous behaviour.

I felt back in the scene a few episodes ago where Rhaenyra went to talk to Alicent that this show might be jumping the shark, and what they're doing with Daemon is confirming it.
I think we're all suffering from some weird tunnel vision here: we know the books, we know the Dance, we know Fire and Blood, so it feels like it's dragging. But watching this with some non readers (my family), they're really invested. Daemon on Harrenhall is keeping them wondering if he'll actually betray Rhaenyra and put forward his own claim. Those weird(wood tree's) dreams are great at making an unsuspecting audience doubtful about what they know or if they really know the characters.
This episode was the aftermath of a great loss for both bands, the image of Targaryen power grows weaker, and fear looms over the whole kingdom. Rook's Rest showed the realm that dragons are just flesh like them, and the Targaryens are no closer to gods than any.
I have to disagree the non readers have not doubt about Daemon's intentions since the writers are making him up to be an antagonist. S1 Daemon was grey and people were questioning his loyalty to his family does he love them or does he love only himself?
S2 Daemon is a straight up a villain in all but name. They ruined the character. Once he goes back to Dragonstone, the writers will pull out the "Forget about all what he said in the previous episodes, he is loyal to Rhaenyra " card that will be a major plot hole imo.
@@Chasingdreams25 there are already many plot holes... by the time people wake up, to the fact that these guys have been fumbling since, Rhaenys at the coronation, at the end of last season... whilst everything was going well for almost the entirety of season 1.
@@Chasingdreams25 I mean, I'm telling you what I see with my family and they're really weirded out and invested in Daemon. Maybe your own experience with your family and friends is different, but mine seems very positive. The show keeps them wondering after seeing Daemon do some amazing things and some questionable things in season 1. They know Harrenhall and the Old Gods are messing up his mind.
In my own personal experience, they're expecting to see what will happen to him or what will he do next. None has called him straight up villainous or evil.
