      i'd say needle and thread first. maybe then an inkle style (band) loom for making straps. easiest method would likely be cotton, though i would love to see a taming of a wool producing creature. however, being aware of the rainy seasons as well as not knowing how he would pen said creature durring the story seasons, i dont see this as immediately viable.

    • @frankohero
      @frankohero 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Minion0ne I have not yet seen "primitive" channels making leather.
      Needle and thread are not a problem to build for "Primitive Skills".
      No idea what creatures deliver wool in these countries. I have never seen sheep there.
      I would put stuff (like the mask is made of) on the bottom of an water-purifying-system (to prevent charcoal-particles from slipping into the purified water).
      For real clothes, wool is needed?
      But blankets or other mats don't need wool.

      Yeah. The current handle make the hammer lost some energy force when wield. Plus, its dangerous, the hammer steel would fly away if the handle loose, might hit his head.
      He should make a new properly handle for hammer. Hope he read this. Sorry my english suck.

      Good advice from all of you. Remember though that this is an exploration, a evolution of skills. He must go through the learning process, step by step, making improvements as he works through his growth. If he jumps ahead to use a more modern improvement, he will miss some of the evolutionary process.

    If this was hardenable steel you may wish to temper it. Otherwise you could bring the piece to a cherry red temperature and stick it into a bucket of charcoal powder for three hours. The piece being big enough to hold the heat and coupled with that the insulating properties of the charcoal you would be able to case harden the piece. Then quench like you did in the video.

  • @GhoulishMink
    @GhoulishMink 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I noticed that the head to your hammer keeps sliding back each time you strike (presumably the reason you keep flipping the hammer) this would mean there is a loss in the energy transfer between the hammer and the metal. And sometimes even a small amount of movement can mean an exponential decrease in how much energy is transferred directly to the metal. Maybe try making a handle that would hold it more securely. It would keep the head in place and that would also improve the effectiveness. Also another tip, you may want to consider rounding one side of the hammer. Rounded hammers can be very helpful in moving more material

    If you are hardening it in water to get the full effect and Harden it all around you have to have it moving around in the water so steam doesn't encapsulate it and keep it from hardening

      This could most likely be wrong but I do it and it seems it works well with me but that might be because my water is flameable

    I bet with all the foraging he does, he’ll end up finding the ender pearl and one day meet the tall ones.

    while i personally am not a blacksmith (i just watch a lot of videos) i highly recommend that you temper that thing properly (as in; stick it in an oven so that it's just liquid enough for the atoms to move around and release some of that stress,). otherwise, it stands a high chance of instantaneously shattering like glass from that heat treat.

    I like the style of that hammer though the head could have been shaped to fit the handle more still. A sturdy fit head to the handle will keep both your tool and hands for longer and make your work easier. Keep what you know that which is tested to be good.

      Well, the hammer was one of the first iron tools he made mainly as a prerequisite to many of the other tools. He had to shape it by beating a piece of iron with a rock, so it's incredibly rudimentary. I'm sure that once he has a need for an upgrade, he will go for it.

    You should work on a water powered grinding stone for sharpening your iron tools or just helping you make them
