Verry good. When I do a new chain or a dirty chain, I keep using petrol until the petrol is completely clean. I soak for an hour or so, vigourously shaking the container. If dirty or gunk floating in the petrol, I keep doing this until the petrol is absolutely clean.
Then I use liquid degreaser,,, I soak the chain in degreaser, not just depend on the spray can getting right in there. If the degreaser is not completely clean, I do it again. Once again, vigorously shake the container many times.
Then the Methilated Spirits. I soke the chain in it for an hour and keep vigourously shaking the chain every 5 minutes or so. Any thing in the Metho, I do it again,,, but by this time, there is nothing left.
I use ordinary candle wax (Red Dot store, Big fat candles), melt them in a crock pot or rice cooker. Then I add PTFE powder. THIS IS A MUST as it adds extra lubrication to the inner and outer of the chain. New wax, mix the PTFE powder thoroughly into the wax. While the chain is in the wax, you must stir the pot so to speak every 5 minutes or so. The PTFE powder does not stay in the wax, it sinks to the bottom after a time, so swish the chain in the HOT wax to keep the PDFE mixed well in the wax.
DO NOT BE IN A HURRY! Take your time, clean and wax thoroughly, then go ride for 500 Ks or more.
Once you have waxed, you will never go back to oil and greasy chain lubes that turn into grinding paste.

Thanks for the perfect description :D It is a lot of work the first time especially on chains that haven't had a deep clean in a while.

@@peteandronnie It takes a bit of work, but none of it is hard, just time consuming. The first time is the hardest (time consuming), but after that, re waxing the chain is really easy. All you have to do is place the chain in the kitchen sink (wait till the boss is out of the house(, boil a kettle, then pour boiling water over the chain, turn it over and keep pouring. I like to do 2 boiling kettles.
Then into the melted wax. STIR THE WAX THOROUGHLY before putting in the chain to get the PTFE powder thoroughly mixed into the melted wax.
Put your chain in and stir the pot every 10 minutes or so,,,,, that is what I do. As I am never in a hurry, an hour or 2 of this and your chain is perfectly lubricated and ready for all the abuse you want to apply to your chain, without the chain running in grinding paste, dirt and the dirty oils and lubes you buy from shops. AND it is cheap once you buy a cheap crock pot, cheap WHITE candles, PTFE powder from Ebay, some plastic containers with lids from Red Dot, petrol, degreaser and Metho.
I bought all this stuff about 5 years ago and except for petrol (once), I have not had to buy anything else since.
After 5 years of using the same wax and PTFE powder mix, I have just made up a new fresh batch.
Now, to get off my lazy butt and go wax the 2 Greenspeed Magnum XL trike chains.

Good video. Nothing in my experience beats a good, hot wax for the chain.

Really enjoyed this tutorial! I’ve just started waxing my chain instead of oiling and have been doing it all wrong! Thanks for putting this on her. How long will the wax last before having to do it again?

Thanks ever so much for watching and the feedback. The wax will last about 300-500kms depending on the terrain that you ride in and the cleaning process will be a lot easier providing that no oil is used.

Can you show the plastic pipe stand you use and the dimensions please.

    • @peteandronnie
      @peteandronnie  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Each stand is specifically made for the different recumbents so size depends on the trike's construction. I made a video on that too :D See th-cam.com/video/t2l1FJIy-tA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5BEZ_OvJk_ZtSROm

@@peteandronnie I’ve got a Greenspeed Magnum so it should be the same as yours I think.

No they are all different, our GT1 and X5 and X7 each have different stands (Only because I bought all the material at the same time. I'll make a new stand when I get time with smaller PVC piping and with some adjustable sections. I'll do a video of the process - way better than the existing one :D LOL
