I always saw the Gilbert grape character as the closest and most genuinely “Johnny role”.
I'm a huge fan of Kurt. If you really want to see the closest approximation to Kurt, just watch Billy Crudup in "Without Limits". He's a dead ringer for Kurt, save for his brown eyes. Too bad he's now to old to be in any kind of biopic.

They filmed WEGG near the outskirts of Austin where I'm from. My mom who was a paramedic at the time was told by her coworkers who were stationed near the film sets said Depp was a major hollywood snob. He'd cut in line at the lunch lines and was just generally a snob. Not sure if that's true I just remember hearing that.
He was talking about an actually mentally restarted person. He wasn't using it as some sort of insult, so there's really no reason to be "triggered" (which is actually offensive to say in this context)
