Blame the developers for planning homes adjacent to a rugged canyon. As for clearing, just how do clear 10s of 1000s of acres of rugged canyon land with steep terrain. Controlled burns next to urban-natural interface would risk causing fires to structures. This was a tragic natural disaster composed of normal dry conditions in a near semi arid area, wind and fire.
Land owners that owned the hill behind my home kept the top of hills cleared, we would clear up to our property line, and had a pool to use and hoses in case anything like this in Northern Calif. We are a desert state, little to no water in summer.
The false alerts were stressful but with each warning I was better prepared if I did have to leave. I am very grateful for them. Love and prayers to fellow Californians who received orders to evacuate/ lost their homes and those who lost loved ones.
The key to preventing this magnitude of fire is for Gov. Newsome and CA forestry to clean up the forest floor on a regular basis. Prescribed/controlled burns that clean the forest are critical in maintaining vibrant forests and limiting fire intensity. I don't hear any CA government acknowledging the critical failure of forest management in this disaster. I don't see major news agencies holding officials accountable for this failure. Why is this not a topic you can address?
@@panzerblitz2140 Only partly true. Many of the places do have forests that provide the energy to become what they are. Then they get to that dry brush. Why is it there. Why does CA allow the accumulation of this much fuel? That's my question whether it is a brushy area or a forest area. CA has both and manages neither. CA needs to get it fire management on track. I do not withdraw my assertion.

I look at that ground and there is no way I would build a house there. No way. There should be huge fire breaks between that woods and those homes. Pretty predictable
Yes, it was both predictable and predicted a couple of decades ago, which is why the Getty buildings are so well-protected. If you don't want to pay taxes to support adequate emergency services and you insist on shoving housing into every corner, and you don't feel like paying attention to the scientists because the emergency isn't here burning your house down, this is what you get.
Well, governor greaseball, we'll never know how much of a difference water in the hydrants would have made. It certainly couldn't have made things worse.
Fire hydrants are not equipped to fight large scale forest fires like this one, that’s what reservoirs are for. Their reservoir was dry and winds prevented air crafts from dropping water from above.
Inmates should give back to the community in this way. They took from society when they committed their crimes. These crews allow the convicts to provide help and give them the sense of pride they didn’t have in the world. This isn’t slavery. It’s service.

Everything burns. It doesn’t matter what you have around your house, it burns or serves as a catalyst of sorts. The point being, when this is over with, the fires are out completely and people begin the arduous task of rebuilding their lives, one of the first things to consider is making everything as fire proof as possible. The Santa Anna winds are no joke. Moving in around the various parts of Southern California with impunity and carrying with them embers that caused all this the happen. Well, we cannot control the winds or wind speed, but we damn sure can control the things that burned. Someone mentioned tile roof tops, which is expensive, but a great idea. Also, houses ought to be required by fire/ safety code to have a sprinkler system which is automatic in such catastrophic events. They just come on and saturate the entire property. The Pacific Ocean is right there and can be utilized for this to happen. There is no excuse for people loosing everything they own or possessions lost for good. Not only was I broken heated it just tore through me real badly. PEOPLE LOST EVERYTHING!!! Stop and put this in perspective. Everything means pictures, documents, cars, house, valuables….. Why are the Oregon fire trucks being held back from responding to the fires due to emissions concerns, when the fires themselves are significantly contributing to air pollution?
At this point....just evacuate Los Angeles County....more winds this weekend, rain 🌧 not even in the forecast for at least 2 weeks, low realitive humidity, dry fuels, fire bugs , incompetent leadership.....

Who is going to vote for Newsom again? He wants to be a president next time. I live in LA for 32 years. Everything is getting worth especially last 5 years, very fast down. Why he does not ask for a real federal help to our fire down? Just stubborn? He cannot handle this disaster

Well said, friend!!!!!!
No shit! Dry brush burns!! Mother __ers! We lost our house, town, friends, family in Lahaina, Maui on Aug. 8/2023. WTF happened to good leadership?
it got called hitler, nazi, racist and was voted out.

You’re a clueless moron parroting nonsense you hear on TikTok. Please grow up or maybe this is a bot account.
That's bull. It's not forest burning on those hills.. it's all dry bush.
@@williamstreet4304 "many of the places" shows you haven't got a clue what you're talking about. What places? The chaparral is dry tinder. It can ignite by itself. All of developed LA hills are chaparral. Of course they have to stop the fires from spreading, but it's not by Trump's deluded gibberish about raking forests, and the source of the drought is humans pumping billions of tons of CO2 emissions into the upper atmosphere and oceans.
@@williamstreet4304 What places exactly? 😏 All the hills where development is seen is called chaparral. It's bushes which are dry tinder from droughts caused by climate change that can ignite by itself at any time. If I had a swimming pool I’d have a gas powered water pump and defend my home and neighbor house 🏡
I think your not allowed a gas powered tool
@ you must be a democrat? 🥴 you can have whatever you want, just got to buy it out of California, buy gas tools in Nevada for example.
There was a guy who just saved him home that way, used water from pool .
yup/ gas powered pressure washer pumps are pretty cheap. 3000 psi ones go for $200 new sometimes. high gpm would be better but 2 or 3 of the cheap ones getting worked by 3 folks from water in a pool and your house is saved...
That water would last no more than an hour. Then what?! Exactly, sit back down keyboard warrior.
It certainly couldn't have made things worse.
eh, just negligible. I mean, water, in hydrants, during fires? Maybe? IDK
It was the Santa Anna wind that did the damage!
@@bwilly4503 A little water sure would have helped contain some of it don't you think?
All the spigots open, no water pressure. With the wind the brush didn’t do much. Blew from house to house. So many ignorant comments.
Fire hydrants are not equipped to fight large scale forest fires like this one, that’s what reservoirs are for. Their reservoir was dry and winds prevented air crafts from dropping water from above.
and still getting what you voted for !!!
You are what happened sir.
Newsom and Bass need to be arrested right now
Inmates should give back to the community in this way. They took from society when they committed their crimes. These crews allow the convicts to provide help and give them the sense of pride they didn’t have in the world. This isn’t slavery. It’s service.
What about those who aren't in prison and never would be because they would never violate another to ever be in prison? I worked around someone who had been in prison and should have been. Everything about that person was criminal and violent minded, lied about things a lot and just a bad character. It depends who it is. Not everyone should be a candidate.
@ We aren’t talking about people who have never violated the law. We’re talking about prisoners, convicts who owe their community for their misdeeds. There is a big difference.
@@Ripplesinthewaters I just meant not everyone in prison would be a good candidate. Even from prison should be selective who is allowed to participate. Like those who want to give back. Some are complete opposite from that.

If the people of LA are really thankful to the firefighters, demand an exception for the firefighting inmates to get their EMT certification after release, so that they can become full time firefighters.

Has anyone looked up the definition of Palisades & Eaton?
Palisades - a fence of pales or stakes set in firmly in ground as for enclosure or defense; heavy duty fence military type to keep intruders out.
Eaton - Eaton agent, a bacterium that causes primary atypical pneumonia; island or low laying land; settlement; enclosure.
