They don't like tomatoes because they're sour, and it's not native or regularly available there
They have a disdain for it, I knew a Chinese guy that referred to pasta as the "sour stuff", they view it with contempt

My wife is Chinese. Respectfully, after being with her and immersing myself in the culture, I still cannot get over the whole chomping with your mouth open as they chew. Where I come from thats a sign of bad table manners. At this point I dont think ill ever get over that one.
