I don't think Cuba had won in Los Angeles 84. At that time Cuba was a strong team but not invincible. China was better than Cuba in between 82-86. The proof is that China was world champion in 1982, olympic in 1984 and again world champion in 1986 (beating Cuba by the way in the final 3-1). Cuba started to be invincible with the generation of Luis, Carvajal, Bell, Ruiz, Torres, Costa, Fernández, etc). In 1984 Luis was not experienced yet either. That generation started to bright after 1988.
I saw an interview in which she said that she was still in shape and playing at a very high level when she retired, but she wanted to do more work with her brain and less with her body. From my home country, the best volleyball player in history: Mireya Luis.
