A lot of people think Gerard can't be killed except thru auswhalen but that isn't exactly true. Quincies get there power from reishi in the atmosphere(ch.49 pg.3, ch.245 pg.15). If Gremmy used his space trap on Gerard there's nothing he could do except die a quick and painful death due to the fact that space has no atmosphere. No atmosphere, no reishi to fuel his Miracle abilities to save him from the oxygen less, subzero vaccuum of the void.
@@kanoreese1253 I respectfully disagree, in the bleach universe everything is made of reishi what makes you think the material in space isn't made of reishi? That's like saying matter only exists on Earth there is no matter in space
@@rigardo93godspeed11 Actually that's not accurate because Soul Society is composed of reishi and living world is composed of kishi(ch.70 pg.8)And it's shown by Gremmy in ch.578 pg.8, that their space functions the same as our's. No atmosphere, no reishi!
Imagine the eternal battle between him and Aizen, both endlessly becoming stronger each time they are killed.

@@yami122 he probably could, he’s just not smart enough to do so (or he wouldn’t want to win a fight that way). The hogyoku does have limits, where as the only limit to Gremmy’s power is his imagination.
He has the true embodiment of the Soul King so naturally his OP is taken to a wildly over the top spectacle. The Shinigami trying and failing to end him was sure something, among the Quincies Gerard is certainly a memorable character even if his unkillable status got tiresome. He's truly from Valhalla.
His goofy personality got really annoying.

I liked him a lot. Everybody in the Schutzstaffel except Askin is a dick except him, that's already a big point for me. Different from Lille Barro, who cares more about his status as a godlike being than his mission, Gerard genuinely fights for a higher goal, being the only heroic figure amongst the Quincy.
Plus, he reminds me a lot of Tulkas, my favorite Valar who has a very similar personality. Oh, and you know, also punched Morgoth so hard in the face (he was using armor by the way) that the guy begged for his miserable life and would have called his mother if he had one.

kubo's ability to make cool transformation in a short time dont get enough praise, like he's limitless when designing characters and (multiple) transformation for them.

We saw him go against mostly "brute force" characters. I wonder how Mayuri or Urahara would have handled him. I think the only effective way to deal with his healing factor is by not trying to kill him, but rather sealing him.
The miracle isn't a healing factor the power of the miracle is to make seemingly impossible odds possible by giving gerrard strength to over come his dilemma. If he were sealed it would give him strength to overcome the seal
I think Urahara could have really fucked this guy up with his bankai especially considering how extremely versatile it is and we barely saw any of it. There are so many applications. Urahara could potentially stitch this guy apart multiple ways

Yep I think that was the way that Gerard should have died, being repeatedly killed by Hitsugaya and Byakuya until his Miracle stops working but they have to be careful considering Gerard becomes more and more powerful the more he is killed.

@@ester8745 if that were the case then that would be contradictory to the miracle. The miracke works with impossible odds and death in itself is an impossibility to return from so the miracke would constantly work. A power that is that conceptual would be kind of weird to be given a limit that is based on physical stand points
But a miracle happens when you think it cannot, that’s why the miracle keeps working even if you think it cannot happens multiple times compare to Moe shishigawara’s luck fullbring. I think that’s where kubo decided to go with this shrift. And yes technically you can also say a miracle is something that can happens only once I guess.
This would have been an interesting approach to beating him. I just imagine Toshiro or Byakuya starting to laugh before Gerard lands his finishing blow on them and Gerard asks whats so funny. Then they point out the fallacy that his power is no longer a miracle once it becomes expected. The true miracle would be 3 small captains beating a behemoth Sternritter. Upon hearing that truth his shrift destablizes and creates an opening. Toshiro freezes him and then Kenpachi tears through his core.
The elite Sternritter are all meant to represent an era of warfare, and Gerard is meant to be the embodiment of medieval warfare. Which ties in very well with his whole holy angelic warrior of God that he has.
But, his last name being a reference to Norse mythology, also makes his power even more fitting. In Norse mythology, the realm of Valhalla is where all great warriors who die in battle go after they die a glorious death in battle. Their reward for this, is then to be part of the army of the Gods, and to fight and die every day, until Ragnarok, the end of the world, begins.
I think it was also intentional on Kubo's part, that the three main opponents Gerard faces, is a Demon (Kenpachi), someone with the power to control the element of Ice, very much like a Jotun (Toshiro) and the descendant of one of the families that wronged his lord's bloodline (Byakuya).
I do look forward to seeing how the anime does this fight, I feel it is one of the ones that is going to get some really epic music scored for it!

You know, for a long time, I didn't know what to make of Gerard. But over time he's grown on me. He really feels like this larger than life character worthy of being an emissary of a God. His power was simple but impressive. There's just a kind of a charisma to him, his design and his powers. I mean, he really doesn't have deplorable traits either. He commends his enemies (he praises Oetsu and Zaraki when fighting them) and allies (compliments Uryu), shows common ground with Zaraki with them both enjoying a good fight and even grabs Pernida when they fall off the palace. Even his powers are about embodying the hope of his allies and the fear of his enemies. He's this surprisingly positive figure, making him more of an antagonist than a villain.
Going further, that's why he works and why Yammy doesn't. Yammy is not only a joke but he's not really likable in any capacity. He's a dumb, overly violent brute who thinks way too highly of himself while not amounting to anything even with his whole Espada 0 hype. Gerard Valkyrie was simply this epic, awesome juggernaut of a character who has good qualities that came out of nowhere and was only defeated because of his own master (whose basically a God). Even their death's are opposite. Yammy's death just meant an end to a character who literally did nothing while Gerard would have most likely killed everyone there despite their best efforts but was ultimately betrayed by man he had absolute devotion and faith (which hammers home how much of monster Yhwach was).
The amount of sterns who were invincible or immune to damage was still way too high. I think that's why many people got tired of Gerard at first. It was getting old at that point.
He’s just so OP. An enemy that comes back even stronger no matter how thoroughly or gruesomely he’s killed. Yuha was a fool to sacrifice him at the end, I firmly believe he would not have died at all. He fought off multiple top tier fan favorite fighters.
I always thought that it would be cool if Tessai arrived with Urahara and helped defeat Gerard with some cool forbidden kido

Kenpachi alone is stronger than Kisuke and Tessai combined. Sealing is not the same as defeat. They cannot kill him
Does anyone feel like Gerald is what Yammy should have been. I remember watching him being reveled as the 0th Espada and fighting against Kenpachi and Byakyua saying that he just gets stronger the madder he gets and I thought he could eventually be stronger then Aizen with that power. Every time the man (well arrancar) got beat he'd just get pissed at that and get stronger and get back up and then . . . he was just of screened. Imagine my surprise when I later come across Gerald and learn his ability is basically everything I thought Yammy's would be.

@@fortnitesexman don’t think so, since he still doesn’t have his limbs, organs, or most of his other special powers that the sternritters have, some of which actually come from the parts he’s missing. But in his “prime” when he had all these powers together, he would literally have been the most powerful being in all of fiction, no contest what so ever. Ok, technically he could be on par with what could be considered “God” in other universes, but nothing is above him.

When the English Dub comes out for the TYBW, I can’t think of anyone else to voice Gerard except Travis Willingham. He voices Mustang in FMA and he has voiced Thor in many shows and games. He even voiced Findor, the fraccion who fought Hisagi. I think he’d be perfect for Gerard.

Not too sure. He voiced Ginjo, and I’m pretty sure he voices the guy from the Department of Research and Development. “Akon”, I think (the guy with the horns, shows up at least once in this arc in the first chapter)?
I’m not too knowledgeable of voice actors, but what about Chris Sabat for this role? As far as I know, he doesn’t voice a character in Bleach, and it’s almost customary for him to have a role in most dubs (joking, but he is in a lot of dubs, which isn’t a complaint).

Man they need some new voice actors already, every anime sounds like a chldren's show. American cartoons and movies always have much better casting than any anime.
You know, the sole (non Auschwalen) counter to the Miracle may genuinely be surity. Like, he resurrects constantly in the fight against the Gotei 13 and I think that's because of the Gotei's doubt. They are giving it everything they're got in a desperate effort to possibly defeat him and that's why he'll come back. So long as there is any doubt if he'll come back, he will. If you hope your attack will finally do it, it won't. But Ōetsu cuts him just once with Sayafushi and doesn't even look back to confirm the kill. He simply knows Sayafushi's edge shall kill and he has absolutely no doubt that he's victorious. I think the Miracle can make the improbable probable, not the impossible possible. If you could muster enough force to just decimate Gerard in one blow and you had absolutely zero doubt in your abilities, Like say Aizen in his Hōgyoku state with extreme arrogance or the extreme zealot Lille with such a conviction that his power is absolute, you may not trigger the Miracle and actually defeat Gerard as Ōetsu did. But since Gerard was fighting the entire Gotei, if even one Shinigami had a doubt, then the Miracle will take that 1 in a Million doubt and turn it into a guaranteed power up for Gerard. That's why the Gotei could never win, but I think people like Lille, Jugram, Aizen, Zero Squad Members and Ichigo may be able to win.

The reason it seemed to "not work" when gerrard faced oetsu was because the conditions for the miracle were not met:
The miracle takes impossible odds and gives gerrard the ability to overcome those odds. But if the odds are in his favour their is no need for the miracle to activate. Now you might be wondering "so then how did oetsu kill him then?"and the answer is literally just yhwach. Yhwach being present was already a tip in the Quincy's favor so therefore the odds were not impossible for gerrard, which is why the miracle would not do anything
This certainly doesn't make him easy to deal with, as Gerard is still stupidly fast and strong in his base, being more powerful than Shikai Kenpachi, but if you had the necessary force and conviction, without anyone else around to cast even the slightest inkling of doubt, you may be able to avoid triggering it. I believe Jugram and Lille are capable of said force and conviction/arrogance and that is why they are ranked higher than him - he may he stronger, but with extreme force and conviction, you could fell him without question and win, especially if you knew his Schrift, as Jugram and Lille likely do. I would guess the only people capable of doing these things are Jugram, Lille, Aizen, Ichigo, Ōetsu, Ichibe and maaaaaaaybe Bankai Yamamoto. What an absolute titan of a man.
Askin was panicking during the fight, so the Miracle should still activate. More likely, Gerard either chose not to activate the Miracle or the Miracle activated at the same time as Yhwach used the Auswahlen.

Whenever it's about the Sternritter or generally the Quincy, quite a lot of German terms occur and to hear that then as a German is always very amusing.
In the future, probably only topped by the pronunciation in the TYBW anime.

When it comes to the weakest sternritter I want to say Jerome because I really don’t want it to be Bernice because of how her power is more unique and she’s basically a non factor who was only on two panels and I just like her more.
This Quincy, The Miracle, Gerrard Valkyrie, so underrated. I am happy there still some people talk about him. I am tired to always hear about Kenpachi, Byakuya, Greammy, or the other too famous character. I love so much how The Elite Sternritter have been build so strong, even maybe too strong like 5 times stronger than before☠️. Like Lillie, Pernida, Askin, and this FREAKIN OP GERRARD☠️

Looking at that panel again I realized just how strong Hitsugaya in his true bankai is. He literally froze riatsu (Geralds bow)... Thats actually insane.

I jest, but it literally took him a power stealing ability to die. Which makes me wonder: if Uryu had shot the Stillsilver Arrow at Gerard, perhaps at the same time as he was killed, would his Schrift not activate?
And on another side of things, on an hypothetical versus battle between him and Gremmy, could Gremmy just imagine an Ashchwalen beam and one shot him? I do wonder if the Visionary could summon forth those more abstract powers, like perhaps he can imagine a Zanpakuto's ability or a Schrift and it appears, ready to be utilized....
Gremmy can create entire abilities, we see this with his creation of "V- The Vanishing Point". He also states to Kenpachi that he perfectly imagined how powerful his body was, only it was too much power for one container. Even Juha Bach acknowledges that Kenpachi is an absolute freak. Even after his battle with Gremmy, the Electrocution Squad still couldn't kill him, even when he was unable to move his body at all.
Gremmy could just say "I can't imagine such an ability" and Gerard loses the Miracle.

Gerard overcomes Adult Hitsugaya's freezing abilities or i should say nullifying abilities
so i would think that Gremmy's Visionary despite it's power would not be able to make Gerard lose the Miracle
also Gerard is an organ of the Soul King, just like Gremmy, and he had the miracle by default before even coming with Yhwach
he IS the heart, as long as he's alive, he will have the Miracle active
To defeat Gerard, I would have liked if they'd brought back how Hollow reiatsu is poisonous to a Quincy's very existance.
I mean, imagine if someone (like Chad and Isane or Hanataro for example) rescued Halibel, healed her, then she ran over and was the one to kill Gerard with the ultimate technique teased in the FK arc. Like a Gran Rey Cero fused with a massive Cascada or something.
While I do like that, I would also like if they gave Visored/Vizards chance to fight him
@Meh they did fight him. It was just off-screen... until their final group attack against First Miracle Gerard.
It took the combined efforts of Bankai Byakuya, Renji, Rukia, Hinamori, and the Vizards (minus Kensei, Rose and Mashiro) to defeat Base Gerard. But we are only shown when Gerard arrives to fight them, and when Renji and Byakuya simultaneously land the final blow that defeats Base Gerard. If you want to SEE them fight in any significant way...well, hopefully, the anime can help with that.

The quincy have the peculiarity that they can be affected by their own power, Ywach, bambietta, Lille, gremy, etc. Gerard’s power was going to grow SO much that the shinigami would no longer have been able to face it and that’s when only a miracle could save them (which I think was what happened, when conveniently Ywach activated the aushwhalen when he only had to finish them off)
Gerard really was a true Thor he was dominating Byakuya Toshiro and Kenpachi at the same time while they was in bankai which they had their new powers developed and they still couldn't take him down.

I know I am a bit late to this vid but I think this is perhaps more important than his power per se. I honestly think that any normal warrior would cowar in fear after experiencing death and pain that Gerard received. The fact that he can still stand and fight mentally is honestly more impressive than his ability to regenerate from seeming death.

Gerard is so strong that the best Kubo could think of how to end him is literally using a deus ex machina approach in the form of Ywach’s ability.. personally, i find it a bit anti-climatic, but at this point, i can understand it since i can’t think of any from the gotei 13 who would be able to pull off an ex machina-esque way to defeat Gerard..
Thats...honestly my biggest critic of tybw as a whole. The character are all so insanely overpowered that only deus ex machinas can really kill them, for isntance Gerard or even ywach himself.
@@619ver1 Well that's not really a deus ex machina... a deus ex machina would be that sword that Nanao used on Lille. Juha Bach's ability to absorb everybody was already shown previously with Ichigo's mom.
The way I would fix it in the anime would be for Urahara to develop some way to use their bankai stealing technology against them. Shutting down their Quincy abilities, so then it becomes a fight between Gerard's true power (heart of the soul king) against gotei. Leaving only Ichigo with the ability to give him a killing blow since Ichigo's blade is the most powerful. This would leave the soul king's heart open for Juha to combine with Mimihagi and take over the palace, falling right into his trap.
@@amazin7006 Yhwach killing him was Deus ex Machina in the most literal sense. Deus ex Machina is simply unexpected divine intervention that solves the conflict immedeatly (Yhwach killing Gerard is still extremely unexpected). The term itself came from greek plays which they use gods as their plot solver. The greeks always knows that gods exist in the story but they dont know whether they would help the heroes or not, when and how will they do it. So it is at least 80% unexpected
Nanao's Zanpakuto however, is more of an asspull as it came from a character we know but it was never estabilished that the person can do such thing. This however is 100% unexpected

Ikr gerard hashwalth yhwach and even Lille barro to an extent kinda got dirty but honestly it’s understandable
I hope we get to see more substance from characters like Gerard in the anime
I think haschwalth probably could have taken him with the balance, since the miracle counts as good fortune. He’s just gotta cut up Gerard, wait for a “miracle” to occur, and then hit him with the equal amount of misfortune. Like it would be super unfortunate if Gerards Schrift stopped working mid battle or something like that…

This guy always reminded me of being the Quincy combination of a Saiyan and Doomsday
Truly a way to show off their power in comparison to Yhwach. Usually, having enemies that are easily defeated tends to either mean the boss is a tad stronger or the only power there is. In Bleach, those enemies would honestly make one hesitate to say they're far off Yhwach's power. But, he IS THAT powerful, standing above even them. That should make it clear how terrifying he is.
What’s really scary is wondering what’s holding up Gerard’s Cape Fasteners in place.

Not gonna lie Gerard kinda killed my enthusiasm for the thousand year blood war arc, yeah adult toshiro and bankai kenpachi were awesome but the fact he couldn't die killed it for me

To be honest I had the opposite opinion about Gerard and Lilie's powers. I mean Gerard is unkillable and as a phoenix he raises stronger each time he is damaged/killed. The logic course of action is to restrict/bound/seal him instead of damage him. Of course this becames super hard in his later incarnations but at first it should be relativelly easy to do.
Gerald fits the achetype of the slow-start ever powering being that need to be dealt fast and soon before he could show of his increasing potential. The fight with Gerard is not too different to the one with Aizen with his constant evolution.
On the other hand, Lillie has already his "immortality" from the start and an huge offensive capability (far greater than Gerard) with no easy way to deal with him from the beginning.
Would love to see a video on which characters can defeat Lille Barro or Gerard
Kaname Tousen is Lille Barro's worst match up. If he uses his Bankai, then Lille won't be forced to open his eye, as there is no point in doing so.

I believe the onlyones that can beat them are people that have trascendent reiatsu such as ichigo, aizen, ichibe, yamamoto, and kenpachi ( hell arc kenpachi)

i always wonder whether after time gerrard would go back to his original form or do he just stays in that form forever? i mean was there nobody able to push him to a larger size before the gotei 13? when he fought nehemaiya he should've atleast gotten a lil bigger i guess...........

I just realize Gerard having the power to resuscitate him self and make himself stronger than the one that killed him is like literally the heart. When the heart is having difficulty like gerard getting killed, the heart (Gerard) has what we call a compensatory mechanism which adapt to the difficulty it goes through like gerard being more powerful and adapts.
A potential strong counter to the abilities of the top sternritter might have been Barragan’s Respira - the absolute ability to decay. 2 reasons why:
1 - Hollow reiatsu being toxic to Quincies is a severely overlooked detail of the war. By extension, any Hollow-based abilities should have a higher degree of potency against Quincies by default. Remember that when Urahara gave just a small dose of Hollow reiatsu to the Captain’s whose Bankai were stolen, those Bankai forcibly left the Quincy who stole them - like an immune reaction, their Quincy bodies rejected the Hollow-tainted powers.
2 - Respira is in and of itself an extremely broken ability. It doesn’t just age things on a physical level but a conceptual one - like how Barragan could easily rip apart Hachi’s Kido spells - which until that point it was thought that Kido *couldn’t* decay like that, mot to mention that Hachi was a Kido master with captain-level reiatsu, so his spells should have been particularly powerful.
TL;DR, if Barragan was kept alive by Kubo and grew stronger than he was at Fake Karakura Town, he would have been a very strong ally to have in the war. Hell, maybe Hueco Mundo may not even have been conquered so easily

Gerard fought the vizards with masked on and still defeated them.

The Miracle is a cracked version of the hogyoku so his evolution transcends Aizens, so Barragan ain't beating Gerard.
Barragan's ability might be good against askin and pernida but I'm not sure it does much to the others. Gerard will just reform even if he's aged to dust and Lille is too weird I'm not sure it would be able to touch him at all.

Hey great video. Only thing I'd say is I wish I'd seen a little more discussion about his offensive capabilities. That being said idr if the manga was also vague in its presentation of his powers outside of regeneration/invulnerability/evolution (which I think it was vague in said description). But yea, amazing video!

I think a cool way to nerf him would be that his weight increases with his size so, while his strength would still let him move, the larger he goes the slower he goes but when he reaches the light stage he goes faster than ever before with the strength he had in his biggest form. In other words, he would still never die but if it went on too long he'd have to reset his size to still move.

I honestly love the Schultzstaffel, and how they all start out pretty mellow but get increasingly deranged and zealous as their fights go on. However, I really cant stand how the Gerard and X-Axis fights ended in essentially stalemates, especially Gerards. The fact that the buildup for Toshiro, Byakuya, and especially Kenpachi for bankai reveals was wasted on a fight with such a random ending was really frustrating. And we dont even get to see Kenpachi fight Yhwach despite it being foreshadowed during his fight with Unohana!

I have read the anime, all the way up until The 1000 year Blood War, and then I stopped. It's only a few more months and I can wait because I want to be surprised. Watching your older vids basically made me read the manga up to that point so I can say that I did it. But for this, I really want to be surprised. On it's own, this arc should be a nice length, but I hope they find a way to add good material to make it longer.

I think an interesting way to do this fight was make that Quincy cross inside Gerard be both the source of his power and only weakness. Maybe for a moment or two while he's incapacitated, that cross would be vulnerable to attack and destroying it would end the fight.
That way, he wouldn't be so powerful that nothing short of a plot device can stop him.
I can't wait to see this guy animated.
Keep in mind that Gerard didn’t even use Sklaverei which was the basic Quincy technique to absorb reishi

He's certainly extremely strong but I feel his power is almost entirely reliant on the miracle power if he was not able to use his miracle I'd say no eyepatch shikai kempachi would be able to defeat if not at least match Gerard in battle

While Gerard is definitely the 'strongest' in a conventional fight, someone with sealing abilities could take him out. That or the ability to transform something instead of breaking it, like ichebe's black ink or some profound poison. He is the ultimate brawn and hulk, but marvel has written many counters to such a thing. With his powers being so closely tied to receiving damage, a correct task force could do something to at least keep him occupied better.
Adult toshiro has the abillity to conceptually freeze something
(this freezes matter, energy, concepts and abillites)
but gerard was still able to survive this attack.
(gerards "the Miracle" manifests impossible miracles that defy logic and reason)

Honestly, Gerard was the only Quincy i genuinely liked
I was greatly disappointed by the resolution of his fight. I was hoping they were going to extract or neutralize the heart somehow after destroying his body for the third time but in the end he was only defeated because of Yhwach recalling his powers. It felt very anticlimatic and made it feel like it wasted so many cool moments like Kenpachi's Bankai and adult Hitsugaya.

Especially since after Lille Barro got hit, he lost all of his Quincy Powers, being trapped in a state where he was a wingless Eldritch being.
I know the argument is that Gerard Valkyrie is the heart of the Soul King, but you also need to take into account that at some point, some where, some how, some one, was defeated by her family's Zanpakuto that had God-like powers similar to Lille Barro's "The X-axis".
If this is the case, there's no reason they can't defeat Gerard Valkyrie and strip him lf his Godlike powers like they did with Lillie Barro.

@@Maggisoo Gerard Valkyrie's abilities can be suppressed, such as his Hoffnung (Sword), which he explains is part of his ability, being the "Hope" of the Masses, while his Giant Form is caused by the "Fear" of the Masses.
He also implies that he can manipulate probability. However, his power requires time to trigger, as well as extremely poor odds.
*For Example:* Gerard Valkyrie deemed it nearly impossible to find the Gotei 13 members and Visored who were hiding from his Giant Form, so he was then able to find them. If it was just difficult, then it wouldn't trigger.
*For Example:* Gerard Valkyrie was only able to dent the Cage of Life created by Kirio Hikufune, the fat woman in the Royal Guard. If it was impossible to break out, then he would have shattered it completely.
So slowing him down in multiple ways is the best strategy. It also remains to be seen, if Rukia's Bankai is able to prevent complete cellular activity, killing him. Toshio's Bankai just freezes him, however, he doesn't state at what temperature it actually is. That being said, his Bankai did destroy Hoffnung (Sword).

I think thats his "true" form, and the miracle is only an expression of his real power. He's not even really a quincy or a living being at the end of the day, he's just a big ball of energy that Juha put a piece of his soul into.
I like how no one mentions the small cross from which his body seems to reconstruct around. I used this in the Tekking Story Contest some years ago as the basis for his defeat

I loved that each time he gets back up it’s a new form he gets, it’s beautiful. With his unlimited potential he would’ve gotten up to 1000 meters tall which I’m sure soul reapers wouldn’t have lived to push him to that extreme
I'm pretty sure he became a thousand meters tall or more in his Vollstandig, depending on the size of the tallest Quincy buildings.
