My mamu also has such a story - were he saw people dying in front of him and he always said ke mein pata nahi kaise bach gaya - he was just a teenager then - so to this day my perspective about Azadi has been the same. Ke yeh kaisi azadi jahan itne logon ka khoon beh gaya.

I have a different point of view , in my humble view , the problem is , we fictionalized the Partition , just a manto story ...... impressive ,horrible, ....whatever ,but just a fictional story like a Manto or a Kirshan Chandar story on Partition , ie we made the partition just a story , not the other way round ,..that Uraja was then buried deep in the Pakistan's narrative , and every year a new layer is put on it , so that it does not comes out , and haunts the conscience , to keep the ignorance intact , this is especially true for Punjabis , they are in a Trauma , a perpetual trauma ,every day that is consolidated again and again , by the show of Hatred on Wagha Border , to keep that artificial hate , that was the result of a moment of frenzy ,stirred by the Hate especially of venomous toxic religiosity , and then Punjab history and experience too was buried , you won't find its mention in Pakistan's narrative ... Period.
BTW ... I don't know whether Adeel will read this or not , but just out of curiosity ,are you Punjabi..?? I know you were born in Quetta ...but just curious ,But I AM a Punjabi on the road to re discover US , the Punjabis and Punjabiyat
