Squatters have got to be my biggest urbex fear even if they’re scared of you too, never encountered one personally and you were lucky this one wasn’t home based on that OJ box. Cool house too!
I’ve somehow been extremely lucky and have never come across any squatters, but I’ve had very close calls! This was definitely one of them… who knows how long ago that guy was in that house! Spooky stuff!
I grew up in Rutland ...that house has been there even when I lived there , only people were living in it back then . I forget the names of the owners off hand . I may be able to come up with that for you . Not sure . But yeah I remember the house In school I did a historical report for my school project on the town itself . One thing that always sticks in my mind is the date this home was built , it was 1897. As far as I know the house was abadoned in or around 1985-87 period.
Hey J-MASS.....Your abandon house is a Greek Revival style house... MY guess would that it was built about 1860 or so... Thank you for the tour of this old house! I have been through Rutland many times... n my way to one my favorite flea mkts. A shame the Rutland VA hospital is gone..it would have been an awesome explore... Keep healthy and safe in your explores!
I think Greek revival would be too old. To me, the design seems more 1920s. My sisters house was built in 1927, and it looks very similar to the trim doors, etc, that this house has.
Creepy and eerie are understatements here lol, but great video quality, walk through and narrative work. You quickly became my favorite new England explorer here. Fact!!
I went exploring a big abandoned house in Lancaster mass you should check It out. The calendar on the wall says 1999. And the house has 4 floors and It is like stepping back in time.
Looks like it could possibly be one of the Sears kit homes. They were available from the early to mid 1900's. Roughly. Very similar to our family's home growing up, in Monument Beach.
Judging by one of the shots, of the wall in the video, you can see lath & plaster, which was an old building technique, dating back to the 1800's and being used into the early part of the 1900's, I Think It's safe to say that house was probably built in the early 1900's 🤔 .
Hi J-Mass. enjoyed your video. I can see why you felt uneasy in this house. That door closing by itself: why would that happen? I think the house is haunted. It looks Lito me like it was built in the early 20th century and the back part was added on later. I would love to explore abandon houses, but I had to give up driving because of crappy vision, no way to get to these places. I am 73, young for my age, very fit and strong. I would need to have a younger partner in crime. Thanks and stay safe.!
I grew up in a house built in the early 1900's. I'd definitely say that's when that one was built. You can tell by the windows and the slats in the walls. It's sad when this happens to houses.
I live in Rutland and I have no idea where this is/was. Such things are rare as house lots are at a premium here. It looks to have been at least updated in or around the 1950s judging by the trim and ceiling materials.
You can get details about homes at town/city halls in Massachusetts. Just ask where the property listings are located and in that office you'll find books with every property in the town in them. That will tell you the date the building was manufactured/created and will tell you the property owners name as well.
Probably built in the early 1900s. The slats in the walls - don’t see that in newer construction. Plus the bannister and woodwork, definitely older, still standing, good quality construction relatively speaking. Be careful in such places - weak floors, rusty nails, critters, maybe even discarded needles. Any hazard could be right in your midst.
Very old house, judging by the lathe work behind you in the opening shot. Also the front door with the 3 angled windows was quite popular in the late 50's-early 60's. Given the age (mid-late 1800's), I'm sure it was a farmhouse. If you look hard enough at town records you'll find a lot.
I live in this town and wanted to explore this house but chickened out after you got spooked. The ladder to the basement wasn’t promising either. Definitely not worth it, always trust those gut feelings. You never know, Stay safe bro!
@@j-massthank you for Replying and I just found your channel through the wonder of the TH-cam algorithm partly due to your video on the hoosac tunnel appearing in my recommendations and I was watching a different video on the tunnel from a railway TH-camr and I’m glad to see more of New England and Massachusetts.
Definitely not built in 2016, since I can remember seeing it back in the 1980s 😂. The owner died roughly 15 years ago, so it hasn't been abandoned for as long as you think. The houses sit on what were his hayfield and livestock areas.
In short, it depends on the location. Some spots, while abandoned, are under ownership or property management, and in those cases, it’s best to ask. Some abandoned spots are expressly open to the public, and anyone can access them. In the case of this house, my research informed me that literally nobody owns it, meaning it’s a completely abandoned house under no direct jurisdiction. I’d definitely recommend online research beforehand!
Omg I got a hot location for you in Jefferson MA!! My son who is on the spectrum musta had a past life in this one. It is worth a look. How to contact you?
Judging from the floors and some of the hardware this house was built between the late 1000's and early 1900's. It was hard to get a good look at things because you are constantly swinging the camera back and forth while you talk. You need to learn to slowly scan and when you find something of interest hold the camera still so we can get a better look at things. That is an old farmhouse style house. They were a common built house with the farmers back in the day. Watch a few other channels who do abandoned houses like 'Exploring with Kappy" or 'JP Videos' and see how they film and learn from them, and you will pick up more viewers. Btw always call out load before you first enter in case there are squatters. Let them know your just there to film the house. If there is someone there, leave.
Greetings to Old England, from here in New England! Yeah, it’s surprising that this place is still standing! Usually places like these are demolished here in the US.
I just came across your channel. The one main mistake videographers make is moving their camera rapidly. It really is disorienting to the viewers. My only positive criticism Id like to make is slow down the movements of your camera. And foul language is really unnecessary. Your camera is moving to the speed of your voice. Even when you're doing close ups. Otherwise, good video. Just please slow down the camera movements, it causes dizziness to your viewers. It's very difficult to focus when that camera is constantly moving. Please!! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully you aren't offended and if you adhere to your viewers' suggestions you will get more viewers. As a senior citizen, I ask if the foul language is really necessary? Thanks for sharing. P€ac€ ~n~ £0¥€✌️
Thank you so much for the constructive criticism! I do truly appreciate it and value it. Regarding my use of foul language: unfortunately, that is a habit of mine I’ve been trying to curb. As I filmed this video many months ago now, I’ve made a considerable effort in my recent videos to remove “bad words” entirely. Also, I appreciate your point on slowing down the camera movements! I will absolutely make an effort to smooth it out more in my future work. Thanks again!
You did everything righr except going on that attic floor. People hurt their back and live with severe pain every minute for the rest of their life so be careful. Think about that when your bored and ponder it. Lots of pain. Every minute for 50 years. You don't want that.

Could it have been the squatter slamming that door to scare you off?
That’s what I originally thought in the heat of the moment lol… luckily I did not find anyone else while I was there, though.

Thanks so much man! That’s interesting to hear; I was curious what style of architecture this was! 1860 definitely sounds feasible!

1860's

Horse hair plaster is common in the early 1900's in Massachusetts. I've worked with it, it can be challenging.
I would even say late 1800's. I lived in a 1852 old farm house that looks like this one inside. The inner walls, doors, windows. Yes, very old.
I went exploring a big abandoned house in Lancaster mass you should check It out. The calendar on the wall says 1999. And the house has 4 floors and It is like stepping back in time.
find out what the stains are on the ceiling (new roof?) gut the interior ,new windows?

Great video as always Jacob! I might visit this location and set up some IR cameras to see if there is anything. The place looks OLD as hell!!!
Bro you definitely should! This place was hella old, and I almost wonder if that loud door closing at 10:49 was something else going on… 😂
Why did someone say 2016????
This is everywhere in Maine
Funny
I bet the super rural parts of upstate Maine are filled with these, would love to explore them someday!

That house most likely built in 1916, not 2016
Absolutely agree! Whoever wrote “2016” online was definitely wrong, haha
I agree it looms like around 1900
a quick look at the foundation will tell the time period it was built

Interactive property records say it was built in 1869
What? No Rutles jokes? You all disappoint me!!!😂
Rutland, my father used to live there. I reside in a town nearby. Very interesting abandoned house!
That’s awesome! Rutland is a cool little town, and this house was an interesting one to explore!

You going to do a video on new England’s Stonehenge at some point?
I hadn’t thought of that, but that’s a good idea! It’s been many years since I last went there, so I’d love to re-explore it again on film!

It’s in the very northeastern part of the town!
Definitely not built in 2016, since I can remember seeing it back in the 1980s 😂.

Looks like someone was cleaning it out. If it has been abandoned a long time it would usually be all messed up and tagged. It looks pretty clean.
Agreed, and all the brooms I found inside probably hint to someone sweeping the floors and tidying up.
reminds of the way the my parents house looked when we first moved into it north of Boston and it was built in 1900.
not destroyed looks to me someone is trying to renovate it
The front door to the house is early 60's to mid-sixties. The house probably dates back into the 40's judging by the wall construction.
Hmmmm what’s up w whatever’s over that door frame? Looks like decorative leaves.
Looks like a cool spot
It truly was a fascinating spot to explore!
Typo online. Most likely 1916. Maybe ABANDONED in 2016.
I think you’re right, there’s no way this was built in 2016… definitely an error there.
When you go to places do you need permission? I love urban exploration but i would be so scared to get caught

Most likely built early 1900's
I think someone attempted demolition in 2016 and abandoned the project
looks to me that someone was looking for hidden cache in the walls
