Why oh why cannot Fuji make an Instax wide camera that looks like an actual camera, not a cartoon camera, or something you'd get in a box of cereal? I bought the Fuji mini Evo as soon as it was available in my area. Finally an Instax camera that didn't look like it came from a day care toy box. Please Fuji, give us the same in a wide camera.
Fuji ain't going to do that, it wouldn't sell well. They always neglected the Wide format, that's not going to change anytime soon. If you want to get decent results from Wide you have to go expensive with the Mint RF70 or get a LomoGraflok back for a 4x5
I really like how you do what you do. Your style really makes this a whole lot of fun to watch. At this point, I'd watch pretty much any topic you'd cover.
There are several “unofficial” modded SLR cameras that use Instax Wide film with manual shutter/focus and interchangeable lenses. I’ve made several myself, it’s my favorite way of shooting instant film.
Always appreciate your video reviews Ben! It's definitely concerning that Fuji not only shows no interest in releasing a wide camera in all this time, but that they also seem to have little to no interest in advertising their current wide camera or the film. On there Instagram it's almost always posts of mini, square on a blue moon and then wide is like bigfoot sighting. I heard someone saw it once 👀. If wide gets continued at all it seems like it will mainly be intended for use with their printer. I guess they figure people really don't want to deal with the size of carrying around a wide camera? Idk for myself and others it's the preferred instax format by a large margin. But to be perfectly honest I've gotten into traditional film and these days I just use a point n shoot fuji cam from the 80s. But I would still hate to see any happen to the formate. Would be a huge loss. Especially with all the new ways that people have been hacking and using it. Peace be with you and the film community!
Agreed fully and thank you for the kind words. I suppose the wide film is perhaps less cute or marketable to their current broad audience, but I also think if I was in college rn I’d love to be ripping wides! At least they did release that printer, while far from exciting for photographers it is a sign of life.
Hey, always a great in-depth review Ben! Just wanted to ask if you ever thought of making a video on Fujifilm instax adapters for old Kodak cameras? I'm sure there are a lot of people wanting to see that :)
Once somebody produces one you can readily buy, I would def consider that! Right now (to my knowledge) there isn’t an adapter currently produced at scale that doesn’t require DM’ing someone to custom print it.
my Instax wide 300 died, I revived it. It died again, I revived it again. My ex has it now so I've been taking photos on film; developing and scanning them myself before printing on Instax wide film and it looks really cool. But please fuji; for the love of god bring back the Instax 500af
we are all waiting for the Square Evo. And I'm kicking myself for not getting a SQ6 when the price was actually lower than the SQ1 for a small window of time before the SQ6 was discontinued. Reviewers including yourself were stymied why to buy the SQ1 over the SQ6 given the more features and a lower price, but unforeseen the SQ6 would be discontinued and the price would shoot up from $100 to $300. So maybe instax can remedy this by coming out with a Square Evo.
Flash override makes only real sense if the camera is able to expose at least a little longer like the SX-70 which most of these simple cameras can't. Even the Instax 500AF does only 1/8, the 300 1/64. Still I really wonder why they don't bring back the (more than 20 year old) 500. Perhaps there were issues, mine was not as sharp at infinity as the 300.
I was waiting for a new SQ6, but received the same SQ1 now dressed in black. This leaves us without any advanced camera on the square format (in my country the SQ6 is nowhere to be found). This is a lazy approach from Fuji and very dissapointing.
Wow I hope nothing ever happens to my sq6! I honestly thought this was going to be the square version on the mini evo…. But no an sq1 that looks different!….. which I don’t understand why this was even a thing!
How disappointing. This is just a more expensive SQ1. Fuji blew the opportunity to make this a more feature rich camera with manual options, this is just lazy. Im guessing there is little interest in the wide format. If there was, you can bet Fuji would be churning out more boring models like this one but in the wide format.
Agreed. Was hoping for an SQ6 replacement. Guess the market isn’t there but I’ve had to go to all sorts of lengths to find a good quality Square Instax with the features I want.
What would you recommend for someone like me who's an old school (and yes, old) analog guy who HATES auto-flash? Is there anything on the instant market with a bit more control? Love your channel, by the way - been out of the photography loop for a while but starting to get the itch again (and wishing I hadn't sold all my old film cameras :(
Couldn’t recommend this less if that’s your preference!! But as for instant cameras with more controls, the more expensive I-2 (Polaroid), InstantFlex TL70+ (Mint), Nons SL660 (Nons), and Lomography’s camera lineup are all options, though at a more premium cost than this point & shoot. Thanks so much for checking out the channel and welcome back to the fold!!
@@InAnInstant thanks for the tips (and welcome). I was looking at the MiNT instantflex earlier, and it looks to be just what I want/need. And completely out of my price range. Best get saving…

I really with they would release a new Wide camera. They had autofocus back in the day. It would be nice to turn off flash. I email them once a week haha
I gripe with everyone else about Fuji's choices to omit toggling the flash and a new wide camera. I will say that at least they allow other companies to make their own cameras to use their film, maybe that's what they think is the compromise?
Any tips! Every time I take a pic, I miss half the head when taking a pic. I use auto mode and selfie mode. And I find selfie mode clear. But when I take them both, it seems I’m not getting what I’m looking at inside that lens thingy if that makes sense. Most of my pictures are half of the face and I lost out on my films
Is it me who thinks that the color palette of these films are darker than mini? I don't know how to explain right but it looks darker or less vibrant, and I like the colors of the mini while liking the square shape so I'm not sure about getting this.
There have been rumours Instax Wide 300 has been discontinued. It’s still listed on their website, so I was hoping the next new camera would be a Wide one. Meh
People always think cameras are discontinued because Amazon and any one other website you care to name list them as out of stock. They never bother looking properly.

@In An Instant I don't get consistent shots out of it. The sq6 takes better photos than my very old mini, but I get blurry or washed out photos occasionally. I feel you have to keep the camera super still for a point and shoot 🤷♀️. If I'm going to take my time I will bust out the sx-70.
