- Graffiti and Fine Artist Lance De Los Reyes recently passed away. He will go down as one of the most prolific/original graffiti artist of his era. He had the ability of catching the eyes of many people who wouldn’t regularly pay attention to the graffiti which adorns the NYC landscape.
While he was not a NYC native, he had spent the better part of the last 20 years as a resident here while leaving his mark around The City. He also had been showcasing his work in galleries around the country and world.
He became first known as Chie in San Diego and other parts of the West Coast, but it would be his moniker RAMBO which he would become most recognizable for. Other monikers such as Spy 33, Punk 77 and various others were also used by Rambo for the past few years.
I met Lance in 2014 when i tracked him down through a gallery owner. I started collecting his artwork and we soon began hitting the streets together and i accompanied him on some of his infamous Billboard takeovers along the BQE in NYC. His tags, billboards and bubble letters became instantly recognizable amongst the many residents of The City, even if they didn’t know exactly who was doing it. In 2014, Vice did and expose on Lance and there has been numerous other articles and videos which profiled Lance. I will Link some of them here.
I filmed this in 2016 when Lance called me to accompany him to a building in Brooklyn that was previously used to film some kind of tv show i believe. The other photos in this video have also been taken by me. Some of them are progress shots of his art which would later be used for his show at “The Hole Gallery” in Downtown Manhattan. I had no contact with Lance since a couple of years before his passing, but I’ll surely never forget being in his presence.
You might ask why this video on this page ??

R.I.P. Chie, as a native San Diegan I saw his tags up and down Diego. I myself used to hit up bridges, trains hell even my old High School hehe back in my BTS & OSK days. Check your email when you get a chance bro pls. This is why you're the best at this genre.

I strongly agree with you NYC crime spot. RIP mi hermano Rambo
Nice job. This was a tribute-why would anyone be negative? Well on the internet anything goes, unfortunately.
Unfortunately that’s the nature on TH-cam. Instead of moving on, many people want to spread negativity. Thanks alwyas for watching my videos John! You’re a great subscriber
Very cool, did he tag anything at the Five Pointz in L.I.C.? I have a lot of tags I took pics of throughout the city but you don't see it around now like it was in its prime during the Seventies.
I’m not sure if he ever did .. i doubt it. Not really his scene.
@@nyccrimespot, the big name in NYC back in the '70's was this dude tagged Dondi on the subway cars. Look him up he was legendary

I just made a comment on the last vid about graff.
I wasn't expecting a graff vid tbh. I've been painting years. I woukd give my insta but you wouldn't be able to tell I'm a writer.
Awesome man! Yea i spent some time in that myself and have friends who are still very involved.
@@nyccrimespot no shit. Lol
Small world ain't it.
Came for the Mob history.
If you do any graff spin offs I'll definitely be watching.
I've been looking at a writer called SWET recently. His stuff looks simple but the more you look the more you relise its anything but simple.
