Hi! As of today (10/29) they just opened up reservations on Open Table for the new Disney location and I was able to grab a lunch reservation for my upcoming visit early next month! As always, thank you for your thorough and honest reviews!
The fact that they thought that $42 was an acceptable amount for that is ridiculous, and that they were able to drop it to $26 makes me want to never go there out of principle.
Price gouging-just because you are at Disney. Even the "new" lower prices are out of line, but the fact that they thought their original prices were okay makes me never want to support this business.
Absolutely it’s out of line, just because you can afford to pay $400 to $600 a night doesn’t mean you have to pay out your a$$ for food. It sounds like the service is excellent and there is a cost and value you should expect that, and yes there is a Disney price to things here. But $42 eggs Benedict somebody’s on crack.
Vodka in pie crust is a “secret” (not!) that has been around forever. From Cook’s Illustrated, to Alton Brown, to Southern Living Magazine. Very common…. It works because Vodka is about 40% alcohol by volume so when you add it into the pie dough (always ice-cold) you get moisture to hydrate the flour but then 40% burns off during baking making for the lighter-flaky crust. So Gwenny is just doing what every great baker does (and home bakers too)!
Yay, the video I've been waiting for, thanks, Kristen! Trying to seat you at the bar - it's not just solo diners. My daughter is only 16 and very much looks her young age, and since she was about 14, so many restaurants have tried to seat us at the bar, even at Disney! What the heck. What mom and young daughter wants to be seated at the bar. Great vlog, Kristen. I knew I wanted to try lunch/dinner, and now we'll try breakfast too! Thanks also for showing us the bill at the end.
I so agree. I hate being auto escorted to the bar when I dine solo. So thanks for mentioning it. Our experience should be the same no matter the size of party. After all, I do bring back friends.
Thanks for the review. It's nice to have some options for places to eat while on vacation. My family likes the Swan so this is super convenient. Everything you got looks incredible! So glad they brought down the prices to a more reasonable level.
I still think once the newness factor wears off, this place will have trouble keeping the doors open at those prices. Not sure the surrounding hotel crowd will be enough to support this place in the longer term. Time will tell. Once you see them start offering specials, you know they are heading down that path.
I agree with you and honestly I don’t know who this place is actually for? For families staying at those resorts they are not going to stop there for breakfast. They are either going to get a quick-service meal, or grab-and-go or just get over to Epcot or another park and eat there (as we did staying at the Dolphin). The lunch crowd is very light around the Epcot resorts because again, people are either in the parks or at the pools where they will probably just grab something to eat to have lounging at the pool. There is the convention crowds but usually they often have lunch provided for them. And for dinner? No! Cake Bake doesn’t, at least yet, have a real dinner menu that I have seen. Maybe they will get an early dinner crowd who want a light meal (and are not going to the parks that night), but that’s it.
I’m a DVC member, APholder and we love staying at the boardwalk and I can tell you I wouldn’t even step foot in that door! Those prices are stupid and we have money and we will spend money but absolutely not. You cannot justify these prices or this place to us.
What’s funny is that I thought the only regular crowd they may get is Boardwalk DVC members who are staying several days and want a break from the parks, and don’t have kids with them! I was thinking those folks might want to grab a dessert there and take it make to the room in the evening, sit out on the balcony and eat their $25 slice of cake - maybe with some wine! Honestly, that is the only group I thought might stop by here, because the average family with kids, on their way to Epcot, will not! I just don’t understand the demographic they are going for here. It should have been over at Grand Floridian for any hope of being successful.
The original Cake Bake Shop is in my city and it’s definitely a go to place for special occasions like birthdays, bridal showers, etc. but I don’t know anyone who goes there on the reg, so the pricing doesn’t bother me 🤗
So here’s the thing. I don’t mind paying high prices for an elevated experience. But these fools are charging Nobu prices for a glorified Cheesecake Factory.
I agree with you about being a single diner being directed to the bar! It was especially painful when I first lost my significant other and dining partner three years ago. Even though I had a reservation for couple of days -- the hostess flatly told me that I could sit at a high top in the bar. I was too raw to argue with her.
The only thing that bothers me is when some hosts occasionally ask if it's "just you", or "just one" and have the most melancholy tone when asking. I just reply with yes and smirk since I find it amusing usually, but a few times the tone is so strong it's insulting and I wanna roll my eyes and go, "Yeah... Don't worry, I'll live." Some people really sound as if you told them someone died. When things like that happen I can understand why certain people have phobias about eating out alone.
totally agree with the sitting at the bar thing ,i hate high tables anyway, i just don't feel comfortable on those stools ,in the last few years i have noticed this in Disney as a now solo traveller, but quite often i will spend more than a party of two so why shouldn't i sit comfortably? even the booking system discriminates although they say it doesn't, no open tables for one, but if you put a party of two or three in, tables are often available.
I always start off with a party of 3 because there are almost always availability and much more time slots to choose from. After I book everything I want then go in and modify to 1 the time slot you originally booked shows up. Been doing this for years because their reservation system is biased against 1.
The "experience" will never be enough to justify the price to me. We have to pay high prices in the parks, if you choose to go, no way outside. I saw nothing that would keep me from Steakhouse 71 on their menu.
Great review! I am excited to try this restaurant for brunch on our upcoming trip in November. My go-to brunch order is eggs Benedict so I was so glad you ordered that and gave it an honest review. It’s so funny you were not happy about their offering of an arugula side salad because I absolutely love that as a side to eggs bene! I am looking forward to it. Based on your review I will opt for my second fave which is quiche. Those brioche bites look to die for so we will go for it!
The breakfast looks delicious. I can’t wait to try it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I would be happy with either one or just for the bakery. It all looks good.
Hi Kristin 👋 ☺️! Thank you for your breakfast critique. I agree with your summary of choices for breakfast options. Based on the quality & flavor, The Cake Shop is VERY OVER PRICED!! In advance, my apologies for what I'm about to say. I'd rather go to Denny's or IHOP for breakfast/brunch. The food looks the same. Based on your description, in comparison, it is the same as Denny's/IHOP. And most likely, it is more cost effective, especially for a family of 4. Although, as you mentioned, you somewhat over ordered, still, $87.00+ for breakfast is fairly high, and you did not even order lox or any breakfast fish, whi h generally is costly. I enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing. See you for the next one. 😊 ❤
Oh yeahhhh… I’m with you on the crust. Sometimes it can be an after thought but a good crust can change everything. Another great vlog Kristen. Thanks honey 🫶
Yes! Kristen I wish they would stay open later everyday for brunch would be wonderful for the people coming from other Disney resorts who can't make it there super early.
Another great review you are the best. You really are paying for the experience that's for sure. Another review I watched was from a cake baker and she said the cake she ordered had freezer burn and she could taste it. So not freshly make cake is not good when you are charging those prices.
The sitting at the bar as a party of one thing is super frustrating. They could simply ask at the beginning. 'Would you like to sit at the bar or would you like a table'. Not to mention a lot of times the bar doesn't have enough space especially if you're getting an appetizer and a meal or like a salad. It becomes crowded especially if the bar chairs are all taken
That’s the thing, they asked at Cake Bake & Mama Melrose. Both times I said no thanks, I’d prefer a table. And then they proceeded to sit me at the bar…. Both times 😂😂
@@wrightdownmainstreet You're too nice. I would have said, oh, you must not have heard me when I told you that I would like to sit at a table. I'm sorry, but a seat at the bar isn't acceptable. If you can't accommodate me at this time then maybe I'll try another time when you have more availability. Polite but firm. You're the customer. Especially at $100 for breakfast for 1. I know you were doing a review, but if you go back there being a single diner is no excuse for them to provide lesser service. They certainly weren't going to provide you a discount on your meal for it. Or if they did insist on the bar seat then I would have asked for a discount due to the lesser experience I was about to receive and that's exactly how I would have worded it. 🤷♀️Just saying as a single diner I don't get stuck at the bar seat. But, full disclosure I'm a Gen X'er and I do not give a fudge what anyone else thinks of me so...very freeing. 😉
I’ve been sat at the bar before and I have had time where the bartender had an attitude with me for sitting there eating dinner, when other ppl were tipping and offing drink after drink. I don’t even drink alcohol which makes it even worse. I never actively choose to sit at a bar. I don’t even like the atmosphere of one.
I stopped going to Cinnabon cuz they would always give me a dried out corner. Once I was at the fair and my 5 yr old son wanted one. As we were waiting in line I told him to order it, they will give him a good piece, if I order I’ll get the dried corner. Finally right as we got up to the window he ordered and got the center piece. He was really cute and women really liked him. That Eggs Benedict is still ridiculous. They are thinking we are rich and losing customers because of it.
Do they have ties to Tiana's Bayou, with all the arugula accompanying every dish? I noticed I didn't see any real vegetables with meals. So they charged you $3.99 extra to substitute rabbit food for another one of the cheapest vegetable? This place is ridiculous.
Vid idea! Can you review the basketball courts at the DVC resorts? I know it would take a while to try out each one, but we would love it! And with your basketball experience, you’re the only Disney TH-camr we would trust about the reviews. Disney only lists half and full courts, and their single photo doesn’t even always match the court size they list lol. Just something to think about 😃🏀
I normally never comment. I’ve paid 15.00 for an omelette at IHOP. pretty average egg Benedict in a beautiful dinning room at a luxury resort. I see the value there. besides, Disney owned the building which means she pays a ton of cheese to operate there. People that are paying to stay at the resort wont bat an eye . I can’t wait to dine there. I love watching you. You seemed to enjoy the food and the experience, while supporting independent business . I agree the original prices were a bit high but I’m sure the though process there was I have to make the rent and pay all the employees and lights. Every video I watched , peoples faces were the tell tale on how fantastic the food is , if we enjoy it and we can afford it then we can do it
My husband and I usually opt for the bar if it gets seated faster, but I don’t tend to like bar seats being high off the ground my leg usually falls asleep. I also find bar seats don’t have as much support in the back. What am I missing? Before the cake bake this place even opened the menu was posted. Why don’t people just look up the pricing of the food that you try rather than bombard you to know your bottom line what you paid for a bill and then add 20%. No Kristen, you’re not the only one that get excited about those heavy duty reusable to go containers. 👍🏾 The brioche squares look wonderful. It’s nice to mix things up when you’re on vacation and indulge a little bit and be a little bit leaner the rest of the day. I would rather splurge on this place rather than going somewhere else it’s mediocre. Or a character breakfast you’re paying a lot more money. Yes I know it’s the experience of meeting the characters, but I’m a little past that seeing my kids are growing up and left home. The way I see it whether you want to take something away from this restaurant or go sit down or pass the whole place. Thank you, Kristen greatly appreciate it.
I can’t get up on a bar stool most of the time 😂😂 I’m like 4ft 11 and have one bad knee and one bad ankle. It’s not a pretty sight to see me trying to get up on a stool 😂
@@LifeWithMrsB I have a bad hip and I dislocated my knee about 15 years ago so I’m trying to be really careful. I was told find my doctor that best thing for knees and ankles to strengthen them is to walk in sand. Hopefully they won’t offer you a barstool.
I get the sense that the consumer is paying for the fancy straws, edible glitter, plastic takeout containers, and reusable bags. It’s clear they spared no expense on decor and operating costs. Personally, i’d prefer eco friendly takeout containers and bags, no glitter, and no straw. Think that’d bring the menu prices down a bit?
@@imakeajiffypuff4525 absolutely. Also, if I see one more review that has them talking about the dragon and the glitter… i’d be like can we skip this part and you knock $2 off my soda
@@Dreamingofmainstreet Yeah, definitely got that impression too. Takeaway food containers with their embossed name?! Then they come to the table and bring edible glitter with their $25 cake slices. 😏 Keep the glitter and charge me $15 for the cake slice (which is still high, but more in line with dessert prices at WDW.) Better yet keep the cake and the glitter, I'm going to Gideon's. 😂
So here’s my two cents, thanks for asking…. Is the restaurant big enough to handle brunch crowds? If not, I bet people would complain about time limits on tables, which some places have…. The food looks good though.
My sister has used vodka for her pie crust I think she got the recipe from the internet. It is the flakiest best tasting crust I’ve ever had. I also have the problem of hostesses wanting to sit me at a counter. All I say is I have too many health issues I would fall off the chair. That always changes their attitude to we will find you a table.
I do find it refreshing to hear "that is not enough icing". Most people want to give me a calorie count. Let's be honest, I don't care about calories. Frankly, if I am paying $30+ a plate and nearly $10 for a drink, there better be a lot of fat and calories in it.
I want to try it to review, but I don’t know if I could allow myself to spend that money. We are going to spend $400 + at Monsieur Paul, but that’s different.
Kristen my fellow Jerseyan!!!! I must correct your grammar!! You said pork roll!!!! It’s Taylor Ham!! I will let it slide this time!! 😂😂😂!!! Love your content!!
Its a 3rd Party restaurant (not owned by Disney) and you can make reservations on Open Table currently. Also, if you go solo and dont want to sit at the bar, make them seat you elsewhere. Youre paying just like everyone else to eat there & should be seated where you want! :)
The service may be better because it is new, so are all the employees. I wonder what it will be like on a busy night 6 months from now. About the crust, bakers, including home bakers, often put vodka in the crust of a pie dough. It helps the short crust come together but the extra moisture flashes off in the oven. About European butter, nothing really remarkable about it except that it has a higher fat content. Sadly, that can often lead to a soggy or greasy product. Many thanks for the review. Was hoping you would go back for breakfast!
If you ever worked at a restaurant, unless there are 2 person tables, we would always have 1 person sit at the bar. If not, it takes up too much space for a party that is larger, and will spend more. Is it right? 🤷♂️
Everyone wants to splurge when they go to Disney. It’s part of the fun and it adds to the memories. However, this business is obnoxious. They need to be good stewards of a community and address their pricing. People need to avoid this business for the principle of the matter and hopefully it shutters its doors within a few months.
I would also have to agree I live in Tampa and I come up to Disney at least twice a month and every time you go to a restaurant they always try to put you in a bar so I agree 100%. I wish they would stop doing that if I wanna sit at the bar would say, so I agree 100%
I like sitting at the bar as a solo but by no means should it be automatic/mandatory. Thanks for the review. I’m looking forward to experiencing this spot, though more likely for lunch or dinner.
Another great video @wrightdownmainstreet - Kristen. I love how you dissect and give us honest full reviews and tell us how to get the most bang for our buck. Keep up the great work. Don’t worry I still remember I owe you something when I win the Lotto - Randy.
Great food review! The Cake Bake Shop is beautiful but the prices are still too high. Brunch ends way too early. I don't understand why they would end it at 10:30 am. If I'm on vacation, why would I want to get up super early just so I can eat there! I think they need to change a few things like times and prices🙄🙄
People are just brain washed by anything Disney or Disney related. $25 for some eggs? Sure! Fountain soda for $7? Yes! I think they should make annual passes $15,000 and park tickets $700 a day. Why not. People will pay it!
I guess to each his own, but $24 for that chocolate brioche thing as a breakfast APPETIZER!? Whoever heard of such a thing!? If you’re doing breakfast, you’ll have your sweet stuff as part of your entree in the form of french toast, pancakes, waffles… PART of your entree, which is mostly protein. But who the hell orders a sweet appetizer for BREAKFAST!? Appetizer and Breakfast simply aren’t a thing. It’s stupid, and just a way to rip you off to spend more.
😏Can't believe they thought $42 was where they should price the Eggs Benedict. Glad they "reduced" their price, but even where it's priced now is still a couple dollars more than what other Disney restaurants price them at. And we know Disney is not cheap. Sorry, but so far I'm not impressed by any of the videos I have seen for this restaurant so far. The restaurant gives me seaside Grand Floridian Vibes and that is not my aesthetic, personally so I'm glad it's there for those who like that kind of thing, but it's a no for me. And runny 🥚 👎
The fact that they lowered their prices to that extent, and the prices are still bordering on ridiculous, proves the point that everyone’s been making for a very long time, and that is that Disney will charge as much as they can get away with. Disney should be ashamed of itself!!!!
Hi! As of today (10/29) they just opened up reservations on Open Table for the new Disney location and I was able to grab a lunch reservation for my upcoming visit early next month! As always, thank you for your thorough and honest reviews!

Thank you for this post, I’ve been checking Disney for days and no reservations. I now have a reservation! You rock!❤

Just something to think about 😃🏀
I would love to just try the bakery and a coffee ❤
They have an up charge for potatoes? Seriously? You can get a 5lb bag of potatoes for under $2. What a rip off!
Every video I watched , peoples faces were the tell tale on how fantastic the food is , if we enjoy it and we can afford it then we can do it
You sold me on that quiche... Now I'm more willing to go back again - AND YAS on potato edges!!!
Pork Roll, Egg and Cheese on an Everything Bagel w/ Cream Cheese and a fat slice of a Jersey Tomato is heaven in your kitchen.
Love it! ❤🍰
The brioche squares look wonderful.
I’m really sick right now and you’re one of my comfort youtubers, so if you can post all day everyday for the next week that would be great thanks! 🤪
hope you get to feeling better soon
I got hit big last week for a few days with the flu. Slept like 24 hours straight.
Then another 24 hours!
love the review and i will never spend a dime there
Isn't Hollandaise just another form of Mayo? Oil and eggs, butter and eggs. You need to try more sauces made like Hollandaise, aoli
I have a mayo phobia and I definitely stay away from hollandaise for this exact reason. It’s basically mayo.
Maybe Gwenny has an investment in an arugula farm! 😊. Give me hash browns please! 🥔
How does that quiche compare to quiche from Les Halles?
They have the arugula market cornered!!!
Worlds largest purchaser of arugula 😂😂
Disney needs to smarten up if you’re allowing a restaurant on your property then they have to honor the dining plan.
Serious question: why do you hate mayo but are okay with hollandaise?
Is the quiche available to order at the bakery? Or are they currently doing take out?
I do not believe they are doing takeout food right now. But that can always change
16:10 - You know Hollandaise is part of the Mayonnaise family, right?
I get the sense that the consumer is paying for the fancy straws, edible glitter, plastic takeout containers, and reusable bags. It’s clear they spared no expense on decor and operating costs. Personally, i’d prefer eco friendly takeout containers and bags, no glitter, and no straw. Think that’d bring the menu prices down a bit?
I said the same - people aren't paying for the food. They're paying for all this fluff the restaurant went hog wild on.
Do they accept Disney Visa points?
So here’s my two cents, thanks for asking…. Is the restaurant big enough to handle brunch crowds? If not, I bet people would complain about time limits on tables, which some places have…. The food looks good though.
My sister has used vodka for her pie crust I think she got the recipe from the internet. It is the flakiest best tasting crust I’ve ever had. I also have the problem of hostesses wanting to sit me at a counter. All I say is I have too many health issues I would fall off the chair. That always changes their attitude to we will find you a table.
The secret ingredient to a great pie crust! I would have never guessed
Kristen can you get food to go off of their restaurant menu? Like the soup?
I wonder how good they are about food allergies and how they are about accommodating for them.
I do find it refreshing to hear "that is not enough icing". Most people want to give me a calorie count. Let's be honest, I don't care about calories. Frankly, if I am paying $30+ a plate and nearly $10 for a drink, there better be a lot of fat and calories in it.
There’s no such thing as too much cream cheese icing 😂
@@wrightdownmainstreet I couldn't agree more😄
I want to try it to review, but I don’t know if I could allow myself to spend that money.
Cape May New Jersey boardwalk had a restaurant that was mainly pork roll and cheese sandwiches. I don't know if it's still there.
Its a 3rd Party restaurant (not owned by Disney) and you can make reservations on Open Table currently.
Also, if you go solo and dont want to sit at the bar, make them seat you elsewhere. Youre paying just like everyone else to eat there & should be seated where you want! :)
I always enjoy your videos! Is European butter a thing?
I need more things in my quiche. looks like only the bottom a bit
I wonder if you can get a half order of the cinnamon toast brioche?
Ohhhh I wish I asked this!
Is that French ham on the egg benedict? It looks like it is which makes me understand why its at that price point
I like sitting at the bar as a solo but by no means should it be automatic/mandatory. Thanks for the review. I’m looking forward to experiencing this spot, though more likely for lunch or dinner.
Sounds like service is fantastic but just curious - have they gone to full seatings yet or is the restaurant half full?
I would say the restaurant is even less than half full. But that can change any day!
Stasios in milk district down town Orlando has the BEST pork roll egg sandwich
Damn now I need to go there! 😂
I would order the quiche and just drink water 😅
They would probably charge you $8 for your water! Got to make money somehow.
Another great video @wrightdownmainstreet - Kristen. I love how you dissect and give us honest full reviews and tell us how to get the most bang for our buck. Keep up the great work. Don’t worry I still remember I owe you something when I win the Lotto - Randy.
Thanks for always watching Randy!
That would be at least $105 usd Including tip, that would be over $160 aud. Breakfast for like 3 people would be under $100 aud
Urgh!! Being condemned to the bar after working up all this courage to dine solo gets me too!
What gets me is they asked me if I wanted to sit at the bar while checking in & I politely declined 😂😂
Headed to EPCOT today hope to see you out in the field. Great post as always.
Disney prices have gotten way out of hand and for the average consumer it’s not within reach, and not worth it anymore. So sad that this occurring.
If you’re doing breakfast, you’ll have your sweet stuff as part of your entree in the form of french toast, pancakes, waffles…
PART of your entree, which is mostly protein.
But who the hell orders a sweet appetizer for BREAKFAST!? Appetizer and Breakfast simply aren’t a thing.
It’s stupid, and just a way to rip you off to spend more.
Love that you called it the correct name! PEC w spk?
PEC SPK!
Nope. Not believing this place is superior in any way - even ambience - to The Grand Floridian Cafe (breakfast).
How is the egg dish entree even with the upgrade less expensive than the brioche bits appetizer? Crazy!
😅😅
Ever tried the eggs benedict at Sanaa?
I have not! Is it good there?
@wrightdownmainstreet not sure - we are staying at AKL in January and just heard about it - not a lot of reviews on it that we could find!
Staff is making out well good for them
The fact that they lowered their prices to that extent, and the prices are still bordering on ridiculous, proves the point that everyone’s been making for a very long time, and that is that Disney will charge as much as they can get away with. Disney should be ashamed of itself!!!!
How do you afford buying all this food?!
Why not just drink the tea out of the glass? It's easy!
❤
