Yes! More votann, and god the paint job is so good I can never get enough of it. Still not quite sure why you have no troops beard
The Ymir save's value depends on the units you're using. For Beard's list it is VERY good though. Bikers and Zerks in particular benefit. flying obsec with very good anti everything would fit well in absolutely any army in the game and zerks hurt.
Also I watched the Adepticon Final last night and it was the same matchup. Adepticon terrain is awful so that matchup was over based on who goes first so it just accentuated how this edition has gone. This game was a much better game to watch than the supermajor final as a resultthough credit to Nass and Arne they were also really fun, just not in a way you can monetise on youtube.
Never played 40k, never plan to. I've been binging your bat-reps for weeks now, don't know why I haven't subscribed before just now. But hey, better late than never.

Beard's after action report says it all "if I hadn't taken X then this game would have been over in turn 2". Glad you guys had fun but this edition needs to go away quickly. Roll on the free rules updates promised for 10th.

Votann may not need nerfs, but playing against them feels awful. Even when I win, I feel like I lost.
@@Fjordgnu Every army is like that in some aspect though unless they are bottom tier. Any army above 50% W/R has a phase, unit, ability, scoring potential, etc that makes things suck.

Chef: I appreciate you being the servo skull that knows (almost) all the rules. ZERO shade on Beard of Bard but man....watching games that are played correctly feels good.
When the audio broke I was kind of hoping the dialogue would flash up like silent movie flash cards 😂
Feel like Solar Leontus or whatever his name is is a must pick for a competitive guard list giving out all 3 order types and 3 orders as well as his other buffs
The extra CP is really helpful too.
There are a LOT of reasons to take him, competitively he is currently taken as a melee protection foil for anyone going after Mortars after bugfing said mortars to insane levels

Especially the busted "Ignore Terrain and LOS" Primaris snipers.

Bards lack of self confidence makes me feel VERY confident in my roll anticipation.
Move move move is +2 to movement and if you chose to advance it is an advance roll of 6

Bard, if you Move Move Move your guardsmen and then advance, it's just an auto 6" advance without the extra 2" move

No they got it right. You add 2 to your movement and then add 6 for an advance. Great battle report 🎉

Brilliant game guys, quick note, if beard would have based the leman Russ in combat with the Hekaton and kept the Kahl just in engagement range, I'm pretty sure he would have benefitted from look out sir so couldn't have been hit with the flamers (not that it would have made a difference to this outcome but something to think about)

I would pay top dollar to get a Fletcher masterclass on painting those Votann - my poor Kahl has suffered 3 different colour schemes and I love what he's done

Oh yeah you guys are the ones with the amazing orange and white Votann army I remember now.
Bard's list will be cut to pieces against deep striking melee armies. So far i found prefectus order that makes enemies deploy more then 12" away instead of 9" a life saver. 4 vanquishers with élite sharpshooter instead of born soldiers do more damage then a gatekeeper and 3 plasma executioner combined just because they doesn't allow the enemy to save anything. Mortal wounds are useful also on 3 wounds heavy infantry because they splash like Age of Sigmar.

Are the two 4's with vengeful salute not hits? Model gets a BS of 5+, but they are shots with a turret weapon.
They're also in Engagement Range, applying a -1 to Hit. All rules still apply, despite what these latter 9th Ed Codexes would want 😅
21:11 Was the command point being saved for the charge or the actual combat on the Berserks? Because they can reroll their own charges, and the damage seems pretty reliable, so I wouldn't have thought saving a CP was really necessary. Then again, I forgot they do only hit on 4s when I started typing, so I may have just answered my own question...
41:38 Pretty sure Void Armour preventing wound rerolls includes CP rerolls. Not like it changed anything in the moment, but Bard should have another CP
You did indeed, and about 2 minutes later, Beard does indeed use the CP for the reroll hits 😜

How do the points in the table work?
That Astra Mil list is pretty effective and will prove to be a large, armoured thorn in anyone's side.I think a blind mole-rat could wield the Votann to a semblance of victory. This was a good game, despite my prejudices toward the armies from a philosophical perspective.
The points spent of the Rough Riders might have been more effective as a Karskin unit, albeit less fun.
@@shanehudson3995 I'm not an expert on the army so I'll have to agree with your expertise. I do know he's using the rough riders for exactly what he said he was going to do. Get in those lines and muck around.
What? A blind mole rat? You think: amry wide invuls, canceling rerolls, hekatons healing 5 freaking wounds, AND matching that all with legit damage is easy to win? Pshaawww (/s lol it's so annoying)
This game is a showcase of why I don't run the Magna-Rail on the tank. The number of times I will roll a 1 to hit with a 1-shot weapon cannot be understated. If Beard had hit just one time with that gun, he would have won. To put that into perspective for everyone. Until they boost toughness in 10th edition. I see no reason to not run the other options. Especially considering the judgement token mechanics making weapon strength irrelevant at three tokens. Number of shots beats strength in shots with this army, imo.

Before watching the game. I am worried that the guard doesn't have anywhere near enough infantry.... you generally need 8/10 squads as a bare minimum. I think you will do OK against votan, but you will struggle against any fast combat armies because you have no screening. Looking forward to watching the game.

Sagitaurs split after the game starts and count as two sperate units. i couldnt tell if beard was using them as one unit or two
Two seperate, they just never got a chance to move when both were alive 😅

Both of these codex are over tuned, Bard you need a tank commader with the vanquisher cannon, give him Knights of Piety my teammate ran it at adepticon and it was very very good.

Yes we had to update our schedule due to an injury Spider sustained (yes, he is indeed mortal), so he couldn't film the game just yet as he recovers. He's on the mend and will be taking out the Orks very soon though!

A guard list pretty similar to this (no RG but their Horse Leader guy, that MW bomb squad and some mortar teams) took out over 1000pts of my Necrons turn 1. They're disgusting if you ask me, they kill anything they look at. Only the resilience of Warriors kept the game interesting. He tabled me and the next two guys he played

Votann 5++ invun for a whole army no downsides XD GW .. my favorite balance masters. I really hope blanket army wide invuns and auto wounding will not be a thing in 10th.

Guard with almost no infantry is lame, but that's the meta...
Competitive Play!
How is it lame? The meta is kasrkin mortal wound spam and mortars, full tanks is not the meta at all.
Full tanks without infantry will always lose games. You need screens and units to make actions.
The personalities are over the top and annoying. But the game play is good.... Stop being so annoying and just go back to your basics
Sorry you find us annoying, but this is our basics. We're not going to be monotonous, or not have fun, as we never have been. Hopefully there's something out there more enjoyable for you 🙂
