moa is for FouFou Latte competition shooters. mils is for slaying bodies. I had not considered that the moa scope dial would be more cluttered with lots of digits. That was a very good point in this video about an important difference.
Just wanted to add a quick breakdown for anyone who's curious about the difference between MOA and MRAD in Australian measurements: MOA (Minute of Angle): 1 MOA equals about 29 mm at 100 meters. So, adjusting 1 MOA on your scope moves your point of impact by 29 mm at 100 meters. MRAD (Milliradian): 1 MRAD equals 100 mm (10 cm) at 100 meters. Each click on an MRAD scope is usually 0.1 MRAD, which means 1 click moves the point of impact by 10 mm at 100 meters. Both systems are accurate, but MRAD can be easier to work with if you're using the metric system, as we do here in Australia
No shooter friends, but preparing for PRS and NRL and might get into F-class too! Got a MRAD! I think its gonna be years before I need a 1/8th MOA for F-class!
I am in the market for a good hunting scope. I will most likely purchase a Leupold. In some of the specs, I have read that the mil hash marks are not accurate when using max magnification. Why is that? Does that equate to the difference between first and second focal plane?
With MOA, you're typically adding 0.25 adjustments (1/4 MOA per click), whereas with MIL, it's 0.10 per click. Some people find MIL easier for quick math, but it comes down to personal preference.
It is easy for me for moa and I don’t know anything about mil scope and I don’t have a spotter I just go look ant the target 🎯 to see my impact and I can hit steel with my 30-06 at 1000 yards!! But I play with my rifle all the time and I hand load for my long range bullet
Mil is simpler. It's Mils for me. The difference between 1-click of a 1/10th Mil scope and 1-click of a .25 MOA scope at 1000 yards is 0.9825 inches. You NOR your rifle will be accurate enough to take advantage of that .9825 inches at 1000 yards. Unless of course you and your rifle are guaranteed to shoot .125 MOA groups you won't be able to tell. Nuff said.
If a person prefers MOA vs Mil who cares. I wouldnt want a super tactical Mil scope on my old Winchester 243, it would look out of place and would not do anything more than the vintage weaver 3-9 doesnt already do. But a nice mil scope on a tactical 308 or ar I could see. To some guys its not all about having the latest greatest and that should be accounted for, I think.
Best doesn't matter, they both lead to the same result. The best is using whatever your friends are using so you don't get confused talking to each other.

Most competition shooter to mrad scopes...
Bought lots of stuff from Jayse. Good guy. Thanks for the video

That's weird. With SFP, max magnification is usually the only time the reticle is accurate.
Weird...
I would imagine doing the math in your head would be easier with MOA?

@Sportoptics Right. Yeah, I definitely imagine a quarter of an inch @ 100yds per click being easier than .35/.36 @ 100.

I'm shooting airgun and mostly with 100 yards, will MOA be better off than MIL in this case?
Possibly. Due to velocity of air pellet.
Well said no arguments here
