    The beads you used on your necklace are very nice and so are the bead caps - they look beautiful, and I was wondering how you choose the right size of bead caps for the beads or did these ones come on the strand already? I'd love to use bead caps with my beads, but I never know what size to get. I saw a video tutorial on bead caps, which was interesting because the lady who made the video used different sized caps with different sized beads, and I was amazed at how the look of the beads really changed depending on the size of the bead caps and the beads. Could you please tell me the average size bead cap I should use with a 6mm round bead, and what size to use with an 8mm bead? I just want to put on caps that will fit around the top of the beads, like little hats!!! 😆 I LOVE them and I can't wait to use them. Thank you soooo much in advance for answering my questions. 😊😘 Love from Amanda in Australia

    • @SandyHuntress
      @SandyHuntress  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no exact answer for what size bead cap to use with a certain size bead. As you mentioned, you can get different looks by using different proportions.
      My advice to you is to pick up bead caps in several sizes, say from 4mm to 8 or 10mm (or bigger, if you have lots of really big beads), and experiment with beads you have. See what you like: More of the bead covered? Less of it covered? Caps that add lots of dimension? Low profile caps?
      Only you can determine what suits your taste best. :-) Happy creating!

    Will the wire help the necklace swing nicely or will it be stiff? I want to make a really long necklace and want to make sure that I am using the right materials.

    • @SandyHuntress
      @SandyHuntress  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a very good question, Keke! If you use a good quality beading wire that isn’t too heavy for the beads you use, it should swing gracefully and not be stiff.
      Choose 19 or 49 strand wire, rather than seven. Those drape much more nicely.

    Hello! I just found this video. I like your explanation, but I dontt quite understand the finishing process with crimping and jump ring. It seems like you had quite and length left when you flattened you crimp but then in the subsequent frames it's snug with the beads. Am I missing something? Thanks.

    • @SandyHuntress
      @SandyHuntress  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You crimp the second end the exact same way you did the first. The only difference is that before flattening the crimp you need to pull the on the wire end until the loop is close to but not too tight to the beads.
      Honestly, I should have shown doing the second end, rather than the first. 😐 It’s one of those videos I have thought of redoing for clarity. Someday, when I have time!
      Hope this helps. Happy creating, Yelena.

      Hi Jacintha! I'm so happy to hear you find my videos inspiring, as that is always my goal.
      If you shop the sales and coupons at Michael's, Joann's & A.C. Moore the prices are about the cheapest out there. Not all of their things are good quality, so watch for that, but if you're just learning that isn't a big concern.
      The more experienced you get, the more you'll appreciate the nicer components. I do a lot of my online shopping at FireMountainGems.com and and ArtBeads.com. Get on their newsletters so you can shop sales & specials.
      The FireMountainGems.com catalog is HUGE and very inspiring, so be sure to request one of those, too. They often have nice things on clearance for really good prices.

    what is a good size bead design board? I found one that says you can design up to a 34 inch necklace and has a cover that holds tools.

    • @SandyHuntress
      @SandyHuntress  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That bead design board is a good one, as you can lay our larger projects, but it does take up a lot of room on your work surface.I have several, depending on what I'm working on: the large one you mentioned, for designing long necklaces and multi-wrap bracelets, a similar one with the three "U" shaped channels for necklaces, but half the length, so it can fit in a small space and a board with several straight channels, good for laying out long earrings or multi-strand bracelets. It really does depend on what you are working on and the space you have.

      You actually don't want it to be tight, or your jewelry will be stiff and not drape gracefully.
      It's best to leave a few millimeters of slack. With chunky beads you can leave up to 1/8" of slack.

      You simply pick up each bead and slide it onto the stringing wire. The board doesn’t do any stringing for you, it just helps you arrange things the way you want them.

      Lauren, you don't want to get rid of all of the extra space between the beads and your crimp, this will make the whole design too tight and prone to breaking. Leave a little breathing room. You can use a colored beading wire if you are concerned about the wire showing. And you can conceal your crimp beads with crimp covers if you do not like the look of your finished crimps.

      The actual stringing of a bead onto a wire is just that simple: pick up a bead, poke the wire into the hole, repeat to add more beads. 🙂
