Double treat today: finding out that there is a Logic update AND Echo Sound Works has done a video on it already! Thank you. You are the best! ❤🔥
Haha thanks 🙏 appreciate the love
I bought Logic before Apple bought Logic. I've been getting free updates for Logic for 19 years now. Pretty good deal.
Emagic Logic on a CD. From a bunch of crazy Germans. I bought my first edition many many years ago.
I just updated. I love it. It also automatically re-scanned for all of my Audio Units and they are now accessible. They had disappeared for no reason.
Please make a Sample Alchemy preset pack, I’d buy it in a heartbeat
Such a great video Shane! Also loving all the new drops last week keep up the good work my friend :)
Honestly fixing the plugin delay compensation on bus tracks and the automation copy/move bugs is what I'm most excited about! Some cool changes for sure though :)
Haha me too! But that doesn’t make for as good of a video because I’d have to pull up plug-in doctor to A/B the delay and yeah.
This is soo true
I’ve been using logic out of the box for so long and don’t use third party instruments. I’ve never seen a sampler instrument like this. It’s amazing.
I noticed that with automations and beat break you could get some really amazing effects done on only certain parts of your track. I been feeling like a shag ever since
Really good update. Main thing is for Apple to get Logic fully optimised on their operating system. Still an ongoing issue. It doesn’t really make sense, how a DAW like Reaper performs a lot better than Logic on Apple’s own platform. I really do hope they get this sorted at some point.
Thanks for a great video!
I'm really looking forward to using Sample Alchemy even though the GUI is a bit underwhealming. 😅
Once you save the file, you can load it in alchemy the full version . What will happen if it would load for instances of the same sample into alchemy
Awesome vid dude :)
Great overview, my friend! I have worked with logic, since it was running on Atari computers under a different name!( creator/ notator). They’ve come a long ways since then! Congrats to Gerhard and team. These are really exciting developments!
Hey John! That’s awesome! I’ve only heard about the notator days. I think my first version was logic 6 so you got me beat. Hope you and yours are doing well ❤️
Love the video Shane! You definitely need an M1 ASAP because the other modes in Mastering Assistant are above and beyond. The Transparent mode is fantastic. The Clean mode had too much pumping for my taste.
Totally agree!
nice! for the Sample Alchemy you have another synth that is obscuring your demo of the sample
You've been able to use third-party drum VSTs in place of Logic's drum kit presets for a long, long time. No added work. Just simply change the default "Drum Kit" plugin to Addictive, XO, EZD etc.
Awesome job bro !!!
Thanks!
great vid!
Thanks for checking it out ❤
Insane!
Thanks so much
Thank you for the video! Recently updated my Logic, but there are no presets in my Sample Alchemy. And until I figured out how to install them. I looked at the sound library lists but they are not there. if anyone knows how to install them, I will be grateful for the advice
UPD: decided this)) it is necessary to install Sound Packs in full, it may be useful for someone
Beat breaker sounds like infected mushroom plug in. Infected mushroom pioneered glitch effects in the late 90s early 2000s.
Yeah it's kind of inspired by shaperbox too. And the volume section can be used to replace lfo tool (although I already do this with stepFX).
As someone who does psytrance in excited about this update.
I’m really impressed with Logic in general nowadays. I have Native Instruments Komplete (for years) , Serum , and Korg VSTs; but have preferred using Logics sounds and VSTs over those lately . For me it’s about sound and ease of use .
Only in very few instances does a 3rd party outperform Logic's VSTs these days. 10 years ago, maybe I could see a use for them, but now they're almost all unnecessary.
Nice!!
Great job on this, learned a ton!!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Was having fun with this with my own samples, didn’t realize it came with presets! Actually it didn’t until I downloaded from sound manger but doesn’t seem like a lot. Is your Classical Octaves a custom sound or part of the presets?
Yeah there isn’t a lot.
It was an edited version of the preset
I have an issue with my microphone signal while recording, if i'm yelling or speak quieter the signal is muted.
it's like there is a supper aggressive noise gate and limiter.
It's only on Logic Pro, GarageBand in the other hand work perfectly.(in other Daw or device my mic is normal, only when i start it on logic)
Sample Alchemy 🤯❤️
This renders the Waves Cr8 (I probably spelled it wrong) obsolete. A lot of these features were in that software. This just simplified and expanded upon that plugin's idea to an amazing level.
Yeah between this and logics simple sampler and multi sampler you’re good to go
Exactly. Whenever I’m in logic, I don’t really need to go anywhere else. This is just extra. However, I do like using Cerrado Studio to flush out certain ideas because of the way it behaves and I still use hardware samplers like my MPC 1000 and 5000. But everything ends up back in logic at one point before everything is done.
Logic vs nuendo..which one sounds best..both user can answer plz..
I have a question, I’ve been working on my album for about a year and half now, would this update effect any of my projects? It happened to me before where a project wouldn’t even open, so I don’t know weather to just finish my album before I update or am I in the clear?? 🙏🏽
No NEVER "in the clear" when updating your music/DAW/Project computer. 1rule is backup your Logic version before any Logic updates so you could always go back to version that worked with your project. In addition this version may require an OS update depending on age of your system. good luck
@@derekmiller5085 Thank you so much 🙏🏽 Do you have a link to a video on how to backup my Logic version?
Rock on!
❤❤❤
Hi, Thanks for that really great analyse of the update. I was wondering how can I use Drummer with XO which could be a banger for me (XO is incredible but the midi part is not the best). I try scripter but I don't understand how it works (it seems to work to script a drum pad but not the drummer stuff). Is someone could explain it? And also I think we could use XO as a Kick or snare layering/replacement tool if you put 8 kicks (or snares) and choose the one you like. But it need to have all the same midi input. I don't know if scripter can do this?
I would try making a DMD formatted patch in XO. Make a kit with a kick, snare, clap etc. to the notes that logic likes and then anytime you want to use XO with drummer patterns you can load that patch up and then swap out the samples in XO as needed
Thanks for the answer!!

Check out the new 'Pitch Correction' ('Auto-Tune') in Logic 10.8. A big game changer .
It’s weird that Apple didn’t officially list the pitch correction with the redone gui as a part of the release notes for 10.8
10.7.8 is what introduced the neural engine to the pitch correction plugin but they didn’t update the gui when they released that.
I'm stuck on Logic 10.6.x right now because of my old Mac which can't go past Catalina. I just finished a lot of pitch correction using 10.6's, and found it a bit sonically glitchy and sometimes it just ignores a sung word that clearly has pitch and doesn't make an editable flex marker for it. Overall it was pretty darn good though. I just might be inclined to get a new Mac if pitch correction is way better though. There's been lots of new stuff in Logic 10.7 and 10.8 that so far hasn't given me the nudge to upgrade. I hadn't considered that an old feature getting better might be more convincing than a new feature!
Great run-throiugh. 10.7 already had the audio slipping feature just not a specific tool.
Correct me if I’m wrong - 10.7 was always tied to a grid value? That’s not true slip editing because if your audio is a unique rhythm you’re kinda stuck with the meter of the audio and the grid value you have set.
You could also technically do it before 10.7. I made a video in like 2018 about this. You could for some reason do it in the project file browser 🤷♂️
th-cam.com/video/Biyz6hZwR1g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=my-1cBLKHVI9u4JU
@@EchoSoundWorks The Slip feature in 10.7 was tied to the Nudge Value you set. So if you wanted you could slip left or right by 10 ms, 1 ms or even by Sample if you wanted really small movements.
@@drvoodoo3073 yeah ok that’s what I remembered, I wasn’t a fan of that work flow. I much prefer this new method. It’s more similar to ableton. Thanks for chiming in!
@@EchoSoundWorks In addition to the grid options you could also move by ticks, 1/2frame, frame etc But yeah it wasn't quite the slip tool
@@EchoSoundWorks I wasn't a fan either so I never really used that feature. 10.8 changes everything!
How do I get the update? So i when to go somewhere to get it? My Mac doesn’t show an upgrade as an option
It's on the mac app store
For this new update, the reversed vocal effect that gives you that buildup into vocals seems to be different now. Anyone else notice this or am I missing something?
The parameters may open the plugin at different default settings, but parameter adjustments should still get you there.
thank you@@listener84
Someone help please…i just dragged logic x to trash so i could reinstall but i have a 2014 imac and am up to date with mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 so when i go to reinstall it says i need 13.5 or newer which I don’t think i can get… have i just lost my logic x app by deleting? Any help is appreciated 🙏🏻
Did you empty your trash? If not just pull it back out of your trash.
Check your App Store account. There might be old versions of logic available to download
Logic has had slip audio functionality in all versions of Logic Pro X, probably even in v9. It was buried in a submenu. I never use it but accidentally came across it a few years ago.
Yeah there was a limited version in older versions. Pre 10.5 it was buried in the file browser bin. I even have a video on it lol
Why not make the slip and rotate tools the same tool? Why do we need both instead of always slipping all the way through rotate?
Although rotate does everything slip does, it would be a pain sometimes if there wasn't an 'endpoint' to the slipping. I'd want to know when I reached the beginning or end of a region. With rotate it just keeps going infinitely. However, I wonder if there could just be one slip tool, with a 'clutch' modifier that allows rotation.
thanks! How you been?!
I’ve been doing better! Thanks for asking ❤
How have you been?
Anyone know if the UAD Apollo 16 interface can record at 32 bit float to take advantage of this? Seems UAD might be capped at 24bit
It cannot :(
Nice content 🔥I would love to know the preset name of the bass at 1:28 😁 Thank you and keep going 🔥
I think I just dragged In a custom sample into that preset that is listed
is anyone running into the issue of constantly hearing yourself without input monitoring active? while the record button is on?
Sample Aclhemy reminds me lot of Arturia Pigments.
aye !!!!!!!!!!
Nobody comes close for UX and workflow, but each time I try to come back I hit a data loss crash and go back to Studio One. If they prioritized stability and robustness it would be a no-brainer.
maybe your mac is too old? I have an M1 with only 8gb (stupid mistake, I know) and yet it never crashed on me
Good job Logic
We need stem separation
Yeah that would be cool!
I would first like to see a plug-in search like ableton and better integration for user samples. Logic tries to force Apple loops on people and I hate that approach. Just because there are Apple loops doesn’t mean that people won’t use third party samples, it’s just classic Apple arrogance to think this. Having both would just make logic that much more appealing to users
Also better flex time. Maybe a "high cpu" mode that has as few artifacts as possible.
Is it still worth buying LFO tool now we have Beat Breaker?
The pops and clicks in beat breaker when you're using the sidechain mode makes it hard to use on a lot sounds. I'm still reaching for LFO tool or kick start 2.
good to know thanks, LFO tool is on my (forever-growing) wishlist of plugins - quick question; would you say LFO tool is more versatile than Kickstart 2 or are they practically the same?@@EchoSoundWorks
Since 1990. 34 years with Logic and its evolution. When Steve Jobs first saw Logic before Apple bought it, he said "Man, that's an ugly looking program". When it was called Creator/Notator on the Atari ST and TOS (the operating system), its MIDI timing was far tighter than even the latest OSX Core MIDI sludge. 8-bit heaven!
I’ve heard that the older midi timing was better, I would love to see it in action
@@EchoSoundWorks •Appreciate you can hear (and feel) the difference in the world of 100% quantization. Its possible if you find someone with a working rig - the Atari, a 8 x 8 MIDI patch-bay, all hardware drum machines/synths/samplers. The only way to get it in the modern world with either outboard or VI's is to print it as audio in Pro Tools, then Beat Detective or Warp audio every track. Just nudging it doesn't work as there is drift throughout the entire song. TO work with the feel of the tracks, check out Numerical Sound's DNA Groove Templates. AVID implemented a very small set of them in Beat Detecive. I have the entire collection which is massive but will give you that elusive groove-characteristic that separates the men from the boys. • Other part of the problem is the mix engine and summing-blocks in these native-programs. 64-bit Pro Tools was supposed to address this and its an improvement. I have always used ProTools TDM/HD/HDX sytems since 1995. I have 32 outs from an Apogee Symphony into 32 channels of API 7800/8200 summing mixer. Analog outboard mixbus:, Manley Massive Passive, API2500 or IGS S-Type bus compressor. Print back into PT through 90's Apogee PSX-100 convertor.
@@EchoSoundWorks Really anything recorded from 1983 until 1993 (until 2000 with hiphop and rap). On the side, I taught Logic back in the day when it was released on the Mac and as a front-end to the first ProTools TDM systems. One of my students, veteran-session keyboardist Paul Griffin, complained about how the Atari captured his feel and the Mac running Logic didn't. I also worked with Wycleff's engineer at the time and did a shoot-out. The MPC2000 is what made it on the album.
When the loops in the granular get smaller isn't the pitch supposed to change... some how thy are using some algorithm to keep the pitch of the sample. Tbf I like it when the pitch changes when your loop is on this just seems like some way to make things easy for people but in doing that you loose features it looks like. A bit like not using scratch and moving something into sync on serato or reecordbox. It's a weird thing moving audio without hearing pitch changes. And quite frankly confusing when you cannot use these gradual differences to make adjustments coz they just aren't there anymore!
I don’t follow :(
@@EchoSoundWorks because the loop is so small isn't it supposed to become an oscillator basically meaning the smaller the loop the higher the frequency becomes because the cycles happen quicker
Put a sample in logic that is pitched to a note say c 4. Then I want you to make a loop region and make it one cycle of the wav. Now experiment by making the loop larger or shorter Andy you should hear the pitch change because the waveform has changed its length and therfore its frequency and therefor its pitch
Not goon a work on my 2015 Macbook though
What's the song during the Mastering Assistant part?
Which one - one with vocals or without?
@@EchoSoundWorks The one with vocals.
That’s like a free mini Arturia pigments
Yeah it is. The amount of ways you have to mangle sounds in it is crazy
Since 10.5 Logic has been getting so much better! One thing they should do is FREE FOR LIFE updates. You can't use newer versions of Logic on old Macs anyway and we are already spending thousands of $$$ on Apple hardware
it always gets cracked within a day.
Isn't that exactly how it currently works? I've never had to pay for an upgrade and I've been using it for over 7 years
umm please make the video where u talk about using different samples and the grid hack. im only 6:50 in but like pls
So basically make a melody with 4 different samples. You could also have 4 different sounds or samples play just a C note. Then in sample alchemy, use all 4 sources and place the source starts at the transient of each of of the 4 notes or samples.
I’ll probably make an in depth video for sample alchemy where I show some other techniques like this
@@EchoSoundWorks ooo im about to try this right now ty! very smart thinking. ps i wish the slip tool worked with midi regions that have been chopped. would be really cool for writing a ton of chords out and slipping them around into arrangement.
That sample gives me crystal castles vibe
I have Apple Silicon (M1 Mini) and the choices for EQ are grayed out, saying i need Apple Silicon.......I wonder what went wrong in my case?
You are running it in Rosetta mode. You need to switch to native mode.
@@Llatonnia thank you! I did realize it was the Rosetta mode afterwards. But idk if kontakt is Apple silicon. I was trying to find out since I use a lot of kontakt instruments. I was worried. But I’m assuming that most all companies are up to speed on Apple Silicon? Thank you again for your response!
They failed. The region should become translucent during slip editing. If i cant see the grid then whats the point?
Yeah that would be nice! Send them an email haha
In that case you should use the Rotate tool instead of the Slip tool. The Rotate tool by default moves based on the grid which makes _seeing_ the grid a bit redundant. The Rotate tool is also more versatile. Rotate moves the audio endlessly in a loop when you drag left or right, Slip doesn't do that.
idk if im tripping but how are you playing the sounds without you holding the mouse. I can only ply notes when I hold down the pad
I have midi in the background I recorded in!
Well... where is the plugin search?
Still have to go third party :( it’s like apple doesn’t realize that people use third party 🤷♂️
Need stem separation
@@MusikalHuman I’ve been doing that since stems released
Me still on 10.2 watching these videos 🥹
You masochist haha.
Hope you can get an upgrade soon
@EchoSoundWorks 😂😂😂 I've found workarounds for almost every update there's been, instead of just upgrading 🤦🏾♂️
Sample browsing, I use ADSR, Step sequencer, I use my Maschine MK3 software and hardware, for synths I've got a lot of the usual suspects Vital/Serum/Korg etc, Mastering I use all the usual suspects Izotope/Waves/Kilohertz/FabFilter etc.
And I also supplement some production in another DAW (Ableton 10) 😂.
I've done everything but upgrade 😂
On the one hand, the update is free, but on the other… Logic Pro is probably the only ‘pro’ DAW I know of that’s had so many unfixed bugs for so long.
MIDI I/O on an internal level still isn’t a thing which so you can’t control Audio FX with MIDI and the time stretching still sounds horrible.
And that’s with 8 years and counting of me being a user of Logic Pro X…
are you doing time stretching via the pointer for the track overview (the alternative to the regular mouse when holding down a modifier?) or time and pitch machine? bc T&P machine is a lot better and it took me years to realize this
@@gracelandtoo6240I’ve used all sorts of different methods:
- Time-stretch to locators
- TS via. Option key
- TS via. Flex
- TS via. Time and pitch Machine
No, I don’t think time and pitch machine is better especially considering it’s a destructive and legacy form of editing. My case still stands.
Unfortunately this forces an OS update that my Mac cannot take and I am not scrapping my perfectly good iMac to get a"free" Logic upgrade. Long time Logic user, > 15 years, now switched to Cubase.
When will they make Logic for PC ?
Probably the same time they make Mac for pc
Logic started on pc, in the past it was emagic logic audio platinum 5.5 was the last pc version. Then apple bought it from emagic, the environment and stuff like that… apple did not create that, it was already there on pc, same with the older stock synths and effects
You still can’t see grid lines through regions in 2023……
It’s not showing the correct bpm in the display according to my erm multi clock! Computer says. 80 bpm eternal master clock that says it’s out putting 79.6 bpm ! So what is great about that ? The hardware was double checked and checked out just fine with everything except Logic 10.08. And the app is loaded with bugs too! Very sad and it stopped several months of work dead. You are obviously using it only. 👽✌️
I use logic and abelton daily. No issues here thankfully. Hope an update in the near future fixes the bug you’re experiencing
@@EchoSoundWorks it’s been occurring because logic doesn’t work with external anything consistently! You know this unless your only working with Logic and Ableton and an interface on a laptop with only their stuff and aren’t using external equipment like an erm multi clock that can’t be fooled into showing the wrong bpm . Apple are failing in every iteration of software development that makes it worse and worse every single time. They and others like them don’t care about consistency or stability just lying their way into our pocketbooks annually! That is the only consistent thing they do that we can count on anymore.and throwing curve balls at the older users is a way of thinning the complaining older customers like me out who have dealt with this shit for years and years and years and years! 60 years to be exact ! Just waiting for just one company to give us a reliable solution but they NEVER have and they NEVER Will! thats their business model “ keep them guessing ! Until their machine ( over priced pain in the ass computer ) is obsolete in five years ! It’s the oldest trick in the retailers book ! 👽✌️
@@EchoSoundWorks pass this along to apple they need to hear about this ! 👽
LOGIC IS MISSING A BASIC FEATURE that would be welcome for anyone who does a lot of editing. What is really needed is to be able to edit midi notes and audio regions both in the arrange window. That would be ideal, however at the very least if the split window format is needed, it should be possible to be able to have the zoom function for both windows locked together. It is sooo clunky to edit in the two windows with the zoom settings unlinked.
Why are you telling us this?
Edit your audio, duplicate, convert dup track into midi
@@roblarson9065because hopefully someone from apple reads this. It’s a valid point
Multiple editing windows on one screen would be nice. So logic doesn't allow that capability?? 😮
And, sooo??
Apple Pro users gotta pay for it though 😢
Just fucking beautiful
Ok Sample Alchemy is obscene!
Well shit, looks like I need to update my OS then..
I had to do the same. So far no bugs
Gutted, late 2015 iMac here and I only use Logic Pro x,
:( apple and their forced obsolescence sucks
Bro just change to presonus studio one...logic new features is old school for studio one...
Man, the update when Apple introduced new samplers and drum patterns was way bigger and better than this one.
I love the hidden joke in FL "gross beat" ...Which literally means "big c.ck" in French (grosse b.te) They are Belgian people so this is not random at all 😂 Funny dudes!
Are you trying to "master" a track already "mastered" ? 😮
Those tracks weren’t mastered. They came out of sessions with some buss processing on because I’m a buss processing kinda guy m
don´t agree. Only fancy stuff for loopy-loop-producers. What about big workflow improvements. not very stable so far.
I feel that. What’s your top 3 features you’d wish would get added?
None of this stuff is 'for free' when you sign away your life to apple .. on top of that paying a few grand for a loaded machine. 😂 .. That ain't 'free' .. but yeah.. it's an awesome update. ... I kinda wish they'd work on their amp sims a bit though. Still waiting on that ... I won't hold my breath though.
Is it still even possible to make music without all the canned sounds and all that crap. I am so tired of all this premade bs. I bought myself a Behringer mixer with knobs and stuff to make music old school with mics, real instruments and amps. Even cheap China made stuff sounds pretty ok today so I pretty much use the computer and Logic as a tape recorder more or less. So I am still using Logic pro 9 and still have Logic pro 8 (and even the old PC version). Man what a relief with real stuff you can put your hands on.
Ah the obligatory old head boomer post getting mad at how people may or may not create music. Dude, for all if I care just make music on a tascam porta studio, it’s all the same. Music.
No1 needs a new synth or mastering plugin. Everything you need is built in to Logic to create PRO results. This update is boring to those of us actually making music.
I need a new synth, as a synth aficionado I love new synths. You can never have enough synths. It’s like guitar pedals Greg. Do I really need 5 delay pedals? Probably not but I sleep better at night knowing I do
10.8 is way slower & crashing a lot…
Knock off of form by native instruments
Yeah it’s similar. I think it’s better than form personally
Disappointed with you comment in Mastering you just drop in and out , you didn't make any seance
Let me know what you mean and I’ll clarify
Still looks unfortunately bad like Garage Band. Essentially it looks like an iPad app ported over to the desktop. Please Apple, do something about the GUI and bring it to a professional level! Too much wasted space in floating windows, too many instances of neon colors over over light grey with skeuomorphic instrument renderings (like the instrument icons, Rhodes piano, strings, MPC, etc). It truly is a 2005 work environment. Due to the wasted space it's nearly unusable on a laptop - even a 16" M2 MBPro. I own Logic Pro and Ableton, but I use the latter 90% of the time because of the User Interface.
Abelton is good for live , it is shit in every other regard
Logic is literally the only reason i buy Mac everything else apple is trash .
Hey now text edit is a perfectly fine program
Don't forget Calculator!
Wish you demonstrated vocals without today’s nonsense like robotic chipmunk tunes and autotune.
Just use the stuff that I’m working on 🤷♂️
Patiently waiting for Vibes for Cthulhu Vol 2 😅 🥲 either way always good seeing Shane back in some way shape or form!
bruh why wont they just show drummer regions as midi, thats what they ARE. then drummer would actually be usable... all i want is to have a drummer plugin that allows me to change notes myself while using it 🥲 its already a great function but could be amazing
You can right click and convert drummer regions to midi
Apple Keep updating Logic Pro for free because I keep buying new Macs just to use it!! 😀
