- Mark Flora returns to Clear Lake, Iowa. This time he sees a dream come true when his band, The Holy Rocka Rollaz, performs for The Winter Dance Party at the historic Surf Ballroom. To hear the record the Surf Ballroom and the field inspired, please follow us on Spotify! play.spotify.c...
Rest in peace Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, and pilot Roger Peterson. Today in 2020 it is 61 years without you. Rock and Roll really started dying after that night. Today, there is no trace of it except old recordings.
Wow Mark Anderson you made such a beautiful documentary about yourself and your Band and the surf ballroom and Buddy Holly. I have to thank you again sir I would like to meet you you seem like a great musician sir. You did a wonderful job here Sir! All I can say is Wow!
What a awesome person he is...hope he performs here for many more times to come.
Wow! Congratulations to you and your band, how amazing for you to sing at the Surf ballroom.
Sad seeing the snow at the crash site, Buddy lives on in all our hearts.
Thank you Mark and Lisa.
and one day your dream came true. Congratulations!!! a kindred soul in the distance, Argentina.
Very nice job sir!!! Enjoyed all four videos.
Thanks so much Christian! I'm actually workin' on another one right now. Hope to have it up before the upcoming Winter Dance Party.
Theres five!
You and the band are a class act my friend....
Thanks John! Just doing our best to keep their great music going! Rave On!
Awesome videos big thumbs up
Holy cow! Or Should I say Holy cornfield......Holy Rocka Rollaz! You did it! Keep going. Just because you made it to the WDP, doesn't mean you can't keep going. And you got to sign the wall! From where I am now I can feel the energy that you delivered then in that room. Thank you for digging "them" out too. Keep going!
WOW! Thank you Eileen! It is full on LOVE of their music, The Surf Ballroom and the continuing Winter Dance Party celebration. Here's a quick interview I did with Minnesota Public Radio about our recent performance at the 60th. Take care and hopefully you can see the band someday! Rave On! B-)
Wow, you were there for the 60th! Rock on, that is terrific. I am trying to see where I can watch the interview you mentioned above. Gosh, I am so proud of you three. Keep going if that's where your passion takes you guys. Keep that magic alive.
@@eileendipasquale1298 Here's the interview Eileen! Rave On! www.mprnews.org/story/2019/01/27/sixty-years-later-remembering-day-music-died
@@MarkLisaFlorapop I was feeling moved. Your
Wife did a great job filming. I have cancer and I watched all of your movie.
It spoke of what was done was done from the heart. Things done through the heart are filled with love. I get it.
I am in Tennessee and thank you so much.. Davepyatte@bellsouth.net
@@bufordpusser4817 Thank you so much. Much appreciated. And God bless you on your cancer fight. I'm the praying type, and I just prayed for you. I sure hope you feel encouragement and love by folks around you. Most importantly, God's presence. I shared your note with Lisa Lynn and she was touched our little movie brought you some joy. Labor of love for sure. Godspeed and Rave On!
Your videos are very inspirational. I feel the love you have for music.
Congratulations for getting to Perform at the Surf Ballroom. I am very happy for you. Buddy, Richie, and The Big Bopper would be proud. I am from Stinnett, Texas 60 miles from Amarillo and 4 hours from Lubbock, Texas. I got to visit his Museum in Lubbock. It is really neat. If you haven't got to visit it, I hope you get to see it some day. Your fellow Buddy Holly fan, Smokey Binion, Jr.
I hope someday to perform there because I am a very big fan of ritchie. I know how to play a bunch of his songs and sing some of them and seeing your video gave me hope of someday I will perform at the surf ballroom.
Always keep trying! You're on the right track loving Ritchie Valens' music. I will tell his sister, Connie, about you. I know she'll be very touched another generation will grow up as fans of her brother. Rave On!
Mark Flora I have a few videos of me playing some songs at an event ( I didn’t sing but I played my guitar). I did a cover of Misirlou, La bamba, and Johnny b goode. I only have a video of La Bamba and Johnny b Goode though.
You're an amazing human being... I'm so happy for you...
Thanks PJ! We need to do all we can to keep the story of Buddy, Ritchie and the Big Bopper alive!
I get it man..i really respect you. I love Buddy Holly an Ritchie Vallens .J.P. Richardsn...my Dad was from tht era..he was also A Veitnam Veteran combat vet. 66 - 67 11th cavalry. He introduced me to Elvis an Buddy Holly..he has gone on to the othr side. I miss him very much.
Thanks William! HUGE fan of Buddy, Ritchie and the Bopper here. And...my daddy was in Vietnam in 1971-72, Air Force. He and I would watch Elvis movies all the time, then Happy Days. We also watched "American Grafittti" and "Diner" together and I'd hear him tell his stories of living in that era. The year he was in Vietnam, "American Pie" was THE song, and even though I didn't understand its words, I felt it's sentiment. And now that I understand its words and history, it has even more impact. Rave On!
Thanks Mark God bless you and yours..my Freind.
William Reichley your dad would be up there rockin out with all of these guys I'm sure you miss him but man think of the show he is getting in heaven right now 😊
I was at the Winter Dance Party in 2017 and 2018 and saw you play. Thanks for the shows.
Thank you Arlen! Hope to meet you someday!
Hello Mark. I didn’t make it out in 2019 due to the frigid weather. But am planning on next January. Hope we’re able to meet then.
great video, Mark. Clear Lake is a special place indeed. I'm always inspired when I'm there.
Love these videos. I hope to visit the surf ballroom and the memorial one day. I would love to pay respects leave a small painting of Buddy, Ritchie, and the Bopper
Thanks Chelsea! I know you'd cherish your time at the Surf and memorial site! They'd be experiences you'd never forget!
@@MarkLisaFlorapop I watched the videos in order. I went from watching part one and was like "oh wow cool he saw the ballroom and got the see the phone and wall!", to "wow he and his band are performing at the Winter Dance Party!". Thanks for taking us along on your journey/experience, you've joined the exclusive group of many legends who have also performed there (and of course signed the wall). Congratulations! I look forward to seeing those places some day, the crash was far before my birth but I love all of their music and want to connect my time with theirs in some way
Glorious!
They're 'all playing now for the Lord.
Yep! And I look forward to meeting them eventually. Until then, I'll try to keep their music going on this earthly realm.
i like your voice narrating the video....
I watched all your videos, I just want to say thank you
Thanks Jason! Means a lot! These were labors of love and it's my hope that people never forget the guys who died in Clear Lake. Most importantly...that people continue to love the music they made! Rave On!

Thanks mark RIP..... Buddy ,Bopper, Richie ,,,,,,Gene vincent ,Eddie Cochran ,,Elvis ,,,,,,,could go on and on ...Not Fade Away
Thanks Martin! American legends, all of them! And let's do our best to not let their legends fade away! Rave On!
Great videos, I’ve watched all of your ‘The Day The Music Was Visited..’ series and this one brought me to tears. I’m in the UK and I really do hope to make it to a Winter Dance Party one year - seeing the 3 large pictures when you’re looking from the stage must be amazing. Keep rock and rolling!!
Thank you Simone! Yes, definitely make the visit to the Winter Dance Party! The people and the music there are wonderful.
I really enjoyed your video. Your love of Buddys music is inspiring. I know how you feel because I was impacted in the same way by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Bless you sir.
Thanks Allen! I met Stevie Ray Vaughn in Des Moines, IA in 1987 after a show. His voice was shot that night, so he told the audience he'd put even more into his guitar. HE DID! Then, after the show, I was able to get backstage (I was the Iowa State Daily A&E editor)...and get this...he let me play an E chord on his SRV!!! Could not have been a more genuine, nice guy. I was really bummed when I heard of his sudden passing. His music, like Buddy's, lives on! Take care!
Much respect, sir!
Thank you Bogie!
Grandioso lo que haces.
Hey man i know where you are coming from. I am a 70 year old drummer and have played on stages after or where a lot of bands that were famous have played and it is a great feeling.
We need a monument above the snow and under the heavens.Great job
Great friends, high energy band. The real Deal.
Thanks Ryan!
Awsome brother .... Your video really hit the nerve, wow
Thanks Mark! Sorry for the very late reply. Anything we can do to keep the story of Buddy, Ritchie and the Bopper alive, we'll keep on doing it!
Thank you for the reply Mark it's much appreciated and an honour to connect, all the very best to the Holy Rocka Rollaz my friend.

Thanks Daniel! Just be YOU! I'm sure you're a cool guy who loves early American rock 'n' roll! And if you can, visit the Surf Ballroom and attend the Winter Dance Party! It'll change your life...for the better! Rave On!
Good stuff, just think. If it wasn't for Buddy none of this would have happened. You owe him big time and don't forget it. Good stuff and thanks
I love ballroom
Really excellent photography and video editing. Hat's off to your wife. And you do a fantastic job of narration. Very well done and well recorded. The band name and alternative spelling kind of makes me wince though, I must admit. ;-)
Thanks for the kind words Christopher! We have a lot of rewarding experiences putting these videos together. And...ha! You're not the first one to not like our name! Our first bass player asked me several times to change it. ;-)
I wish you'd added more of your performance on the vid- PS, your wife is a hella good photographer!
Mark Flora---have you taken a trip to Lubbock, TX to visit the Buddy Holly museum and the "Walk of Fame" erected to honor not only Buddy Holly but the many talents that came from this West Texas area? If not, you should put it on your bucket list of places to visit!.
Lubbock has memorialized their "Native Son" well.
Hi Jan! It's bucket list stuff fer sure! We also hope to visit Clovis, NM to take in the studio! We performed in Raton, NM last fall and in attendance was Stan Lark! The bass player for The Fireballs! You shoulda seen the look in his eyes when he told about the day he met Buddy Holly in Norman Petty's studio!
What would we do without music
We need a stone monument that stands above the snow. Thanks Brady
you sure do remind me alot of Charles Hardin Holly
I hope to see the 60 th anniversary the 3rd of February 2019 a video I think so
you guys got Buddy's beat
Thank you!
LOOK AT THE PRICE 115.00 WHEN THE NIGHT BUDDY LAST APPEARED WAS 1.00.
I bet that's exactly how that field looked at the time of the crash
Great video as always! I share your love of Buddy and the mystique around the Surf Ballroom on that fateful night. Are you guys playing this year?
Thank you! And yes! We're back at the Surf Ballroom Winter Dance Party February 2! And very thrilled and honored to be there!
Mark Flora Awesome! Best of luck to you all. Wish I could be there.
Buddy, Ritchie and Big Bopper in Hard Rock Hall of Fame?
That field is such a lonely place. Mark why don't you say a prayer for Buddy Holly Big bopper and Ritchie Valens?
Hey Mark is the drummer in Buddy Holly's band is he still alive sir? And is the rest of his band still alive sir?
Jerry dyed his hair? (Looks like he'd lost 30 pounds too)
