Yo drinker I know you do mostly movies and sometimes games, but would you try reading berserk? Is really good and is very influencial to other series (cloud pretty much stole the protagonist Style the manga started in the eighties)
@The Critical Drinker Glad you enjoyed it! Here's to you 🍻👍
You tell them your truth king... its 2021... 😜
Drinker you should review minecraft
The subversion of the OG story just pissed me off. Then the padding hit. But this was a sequel story wise not a remake.
Square : Won't it take forever to make this?
*NAH IT'LL BE FINE*
It wouldn't have taken so long if the game wasn't almost finished and they threw everything out and started over... twice.
They're taking forever for the PC Version
Will they actually be able to see this series through to completion? DON’T KNOW.
the only reason why I didnt play this, it's 3 separate games... pretty much everything I do in 1 wont get carried over
@@asterfield02 It might be rare nowadays, but there was a time that you could carry stuff over from a game to it's sequel, and it's not exactly hard to do, just... Not done anymore.
If there was anything I wasn’t expecting Drinker to cover, it’s this. I wonder how much he drunk after Aerith died.
Lots.
i cried myself to sleep the night my mom finished that scene back in the day (i suck at RPGs so i don't play them)
Only reason I got a ps4 was to play this game. Didn’t realize how insanely good games have gotten
Its rumored its what started his drinking.
I raised a toast in celebration didn't like her this time round
The Aeris death was shocking. Back in the day, I played my PS in a military "club" as it was hard to play it on a ship. It was very social place and had a few TV's for us that had our own game systems. FF7 was one game that you would play but were not alone. It would draw a crowd as the people watching you play were fascinated with the story. It was a full house in that TV room when Sephiroth sword went through Aeris. First there was a large, collective gasp of shock. Then, silence. Even people that didn't have much emotion were on the verge of tears. The putting Aeris body in the water, the Life Materia fulling out of her hair and her sinking to the bottom, was so moving. Never did I play a single player game with a large crowd of people watching nor the utter shock and emotion from more than me watching it. It is a moment I will always remember. Oh, and the burning hate for Sephiroth after.
For me back when it came out. I was the home nurse/aid for my ailing grams and mom who had 4th stage cancer. My God. I played it needing a small break and it got both of them. The death of Aeris, I swear my hard Irish/German Grams had tears in her eyes and was mad as S***. The game in a gaming family became to some the best RPG ever. Only game Moms ever played.
Military Club eh damn and a audience. Had an amazing experience playing that game.
Bet that was interesting
I had that on a smaller experience with my parents and brother. We would all take turns and watch each other play. I was first to go through City of the Ancients and first to play through that sequence. The gasp and near tears were real… and we had to see it three more times.
Honestly, Drinker, I'd love to hear your take on other games now, too, new and old. Seeing you happy is far better than seeing you disappointed in today's films.
He did a whole series on the Resident Evil games
I’d love to hear his thoughts on 2018’s God of War. A modern piece of media that actually celebrates fatherhood and trying to be a male role model.
Wouldn't mind him just talking more about games he likes or hates. Nothing specific. The Drinker hasn't talked about enough so fuck if I know what his tastes are. Other than some good liquor.
💯💯💯
I’d love to hear his views on Bethesda as a whole.
I love how you can tell how happy Drinker's mood is with his "Go away now" at the end.
It’s tone is a lot more flippant than usual lol
You always can tell how genuinely happy he is with that last line
"Go away now... I gotta replay through Hard Mode & Episode INTERmission."
It’s always nice to hear a happy ‘go away now’.
I can honestly say that my favourite videos by The Drinker are ones about things he likes.
I mean sure it's fun hearing him rip into things that are shit but joy can be infectious at times... especially coming from an otherwise cynical personality.
I like how Drinker's "Go Away Now" line sounds so happy in this video
He tends to sound a lot more happy in his "Go away now" when it's about something he liked
Charming, likeable female characters. Oh those were the days.
And total badasses to boot. Proving that women don't have to forsake their femininity to be "much strong and independent!"
Agree. Be nice if identity politics would just "go away now".

To bad they felt the need to chop Tifa's boobs off to make her "More realistic". I mean the fact she was drop dead gorgeous and still kicked as was part of her thing.... Some one with the body a model would die for yet acted more like a Tomboy was very interesting.
The Aeris death scene absolutely gutted me back in the day, and my god still does to this day... When that music plays with the cling sound of the materia hitting the ground... holy fuck
It gutted me twofold, on my first play through I always had Aeris in my party and she was my most leveled character.
‘Aerith’. Aeris was a mistranslation of the original game.

That was the most serene 'go away now' ever. That's practically a review in itself.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that was practically stunned at that. Even in other things he's liked, that bit is usually surly as fuck.
Got damn, I remember playing this game. A fabulous fun story and I got surprisingly caught up in breeding racing Chocobos. Even collecting 'Materia' was great fun. Pretty nice once you got your own airship that sped up travel time. Ahhh, memories...

Good lord, I’ve never heard the Drinker’s voice as charismatic and full of joy as I did in this video.
7’s hype came a little before my time sadly however I can understand the feelings. If we got a X remake of this caliber or higher, I’d throw away my life for a week to binge it nonstop as that’s one of my all time favorite games ever.
I grew with X and would like a remake, but I REALLY want a remake of 9.

@@brookswilliams5239 Ty, I knew I was getting it wrong.
This game came out in 1997, when I was 6. I used to watch my dad playing it, he'd often summon bahamut for me as being a dinosaur lover, I obviously enjoyed dragons too. I played it myself as I got a bit older, then I played it again, and again and again. If there's any one game that represents my childhood and teenage years, it's final fantasy 7.
Believe it or not, there's an entire generation of gamers, like myself, who feel the same way about Final Fantasy 6 too. If you've never played 6, give it a whirl. There's going to be a pixel remaster of that game coming out later this year.
I'll echo something game reviewer ProJared once said: 7 is the most important one, 6 is my favorite one, and 9 is the best one. Choosing between those games, and Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 10 is like choosing my favorite way to get hammered: no losers there.
@@SuperSupersoda Dude, 9 is a masterpiece, it should have done so much better
@@GodActio It was the last Playstation 1 FF, and it was completely overshadowed by FF 10 coming out right around the corner, but it truly was a masterpiece. The last FF with hironobu sakaguchi as executive producer and the last one with Iwamatsu as lead composer. There's always a halo effect, when legends leave the arena, you're still okay for about another year, and FF 10 was a masterpiece, but there's a reason why FF 10 was the last great game in the series; when some of the best to ever do it leave, there's going to be a drop-off and the franchise hasn't been the same since.
Those are great memories of a great game, that square completely ruined

I get the feeling from a scene at the end of the first part that they're going to do something completely different with him
Zack being alive is my biggest problem with Remake. Without Zack dying outside of Midgar, Cloud would be a completely different person going into Midgar, bombing mission, etc. Makes no sense that he would even leave Zack's side.
@@simongratson I don't think he's alive... I think it was just some kind of situation where "alternate realities" collided. I didn't mind the lack of the open world, found it a bit refreshing.
Not everyone is suffering from open world fatigue tho.
My main problem with the lack of open world was watching people who shit all over FFXIII for being too linear gushing like schoolgirls about this game. Like FFXIII at least does open up to some open world stuff eventually. It takes a long time but you get there. This game never does. Which I don't have a problem with. But the people who said that linearity is why FFXIII sucked need to now explain why they fellated this game when it's even more so.
@@chriswhinery925 i ask that same question about FFX, it too is a line to the end, only opening up at the end of the game, most of the time they dont have a good answer, the one i see the most is "but you can back to old locations!!"

@@TheAuron32 This is going to be a bit overdone and be a bit off topic, but the game that did backtracking the very best in video game history was Lunar: SSSC PS1
Classic JRPG that was significant because the lines of every single npc in the game seems like it was written by a bunch of jokester comedians trying to outdo each other. It’s absolutely hilarious. AND those lines would change constantly all throughout the game depending on what had happened in the story and who you had with you in your party. Even checking random objects like Luna’s bed would start a huge fight with her if she was in your party, and if she wasn’t, one of your other teammates would call you sketchy or tell you to hold off for now because *she’s watching you.*
Major events transpire and you can head back to every single town or dungeon and the npc and objects would have different, hilarious reactions to what was going on. The NPC would even get into arguments with your teammates or make fun of them leaving them sputtering in rage or rebuttal.
It was an absolute joy to backtrack in that game and I wish more developers would take note of it.
@@chriswhinery925 Can only speak for myself, but having played XIII again recently, I think the linearity complaint is more of a misdiagnosis than anything.
I still didn't like it (though I didn't hate it) mainly for two reasons. The first is the game's dungeons, which are mostly back to back, go on *foreeeeevvverrr*(which, to be fair, is a problem with 7 remake too).
The other is the game's story, whose lack of structure, glacial pacing, repetitive, anime robot dialogue, lack of worldbuilding, bs contrivances etc. I could complain about for days. It (along with the busywork of the crystarium) actively make the first issue worse, by stopping you every few steps for yet another cutscene with these cardboard characters I couldn't care less about, having the same conversation they just had 5 minutes ago, again.
@@chriswhinery925 I think the real problem was that it's had no shops or anything pedestrian like that, I found that viewing it as an action adventure worked much better

I come from a similar nostalgia I loved FF7, and played it to completion at least a half-dozen times. I had golden chocobos with blistering speed, and over powered characters who didn't need me to issue commands to level emerald and ruby weapon.
I was initially alright with the remake, but the more divergent it got, the more it made me nostalgic for the old game. Every change they made to the Materia system to make it more compatible to an ARPG was grating and I eventually started to hate the appearance of the wraiths because they felt like the Avatar of the designers telling me I couldn't have what I wanted... with all the subtlety of a big middle finger repeatedly rammed in my face. In the end I don't want FF7-Reimagined, I wanted ff7 with undated graphics. It might not have sold as well, but I don't fucking care. That game was nearly perfect, a graphics update would have made me happy to sink another 100-hours into it. As it is, if I play the subsequent parts, (which I am not really egger to do) it will be the same way I played the first part, on a friends console, without giving square one damn cent of my own money. It's very telling that when people criticise this game, they only ever say stuff like "It's different to the original" or "The marketing was misleading" instead of anything actually about the game.
The characters were excellently portrayed, both in acting and story (especially compared to the original). The story was drawn out, however is still a first part of a larger whole, and everything they do makes sense and there's nothing illogical. I'm expecting more world building in parts to come, since that's where the game really opened up in the original. Cloud, Tifa and Aerith were all incredibly 2 dimensional in the original, but were given much more life in the remake.
However, some of the side missions weren't great and really ruined the pacing when things should be ramping up. I'm fine with the first 3 groups, however the batch right at the end when time should be of the essence were incredibly misplaced. Also, the multiple parts where you're forced to slow walk or crouch under something was incredibly tedious. But those are the only complaints that come to mind. Everything else seems incredibly superficial.
I do agree with you on most things. The reason they had those annoying crouching moments or having to pass through a tight alley was so that the console could load the new area in. I don't know if they got rid of it in the ps5 version but I don't recall anything annoying like that in the Yuffie DLC.

I still play the crap out of the original. I’ve got it on my Xbox One, my PS4, my laptop, and my iPhone/iPad. It’s still fun all of these years later, ever since I first booted it up in the 1990’s (Lord, does that every seem like a long time ago) and I still play through it about once a year.
I loved Remake Pt. 1. It’s pretty great, for the most part; I’m not crazy about Wall Market nowadays as it and the second Mako Reactor, feel like they take forever and a day to get through.
I’m still *pissed* at Intergrade Yuffie. They know that virtually no one has a PS5 except for rich people and those damn scalpers with the bots that you cannot even hope to match in checkout speed, yet Squeenix basically told those of us who haven’t been able to find a PS5 to just piss off. I’ve been trying to find a PS5 for my daughter since last year and I’ve pretty much just given up on finding one for myself.
Sigh.
My issue was that they called it "remake" while it wasnt really a proper remake like Demon's Souls. It basically a brand new game that follows similar plot points.
I like it now! But in my head i call it FF7: RETAKE
Its actually ff7-2 because the original game happened and remake is another timeline. So it is a second game and sephiroth traveled back in time. This is why it is called remake... Remake the timelime.
Yeah, it's Remake in title alone. It's the name, not a description of what it is.
Look y'all, Square isn't perfect and they did a REALLY bad job describing this game to is before it's release. This confusion is totally their fault lol
I literally said almost the same thing, "wow a game where women are feminine... How actually nice!" I was really worried they'd change Tifa in particular into a shit-talking tomboy, but they knew better.
Japan doesn't give a shit about the woke SJW agenda that the west loves to push at every opportunity.
@@LSB001 They sadly have started to. Like for example Capcom has a ''politically correct business strategy'' now,
and they recently allowed for RE4 VR edition to be censored by the request of Facebook.
Tbf, “shit talking tomboy” characters can be done well if they’re well written, tho in that case the majority of the time when Japan does it, it usually turns out good, but here in the west, “shit talking tomboy” is translated to “ultra woke bitch who hates all men”
Tifa sometimes was a shit-talking tomboy in the original (like that time when she called Cloud a retard), but she was also kind and compassionate.
@@albertzinger7132 It wasn't Cloud she said that to it was Barret, when they were running up the long flight of stairs at Shinra HQ. Funny thing is, Og FF7 has many translation errors, in the Japanese dub Tifa says "Woah, don't say that you'll jinx us" but the western release she says "Retard"
I enjoyed the remake, despite its flaws. The best part of it was how it inspired some of my friends who missed out on PS1 Final Fantasy games to get into the original.
I had to turn my original playstation upside down, just to read the disc and get through the first cinematic of FF7...ah good memories!
"What can i say?"
Drinker & Ran: "it's a japanese game!"
I only started playing it a couple of weeks ago. I am enjoying it for what it is. Enjoyable combat and story.
My main gameplay concern is the number of “press up to walk slowly through down the narrow path and look at the scenery.
26 hours on and running through the last few missions before the point of no return locks them out.
Same here. I enjoyed it, but by the end, the hours I had spent walking slowly, squeezing through gaps slowly, holding triangle slowly, just tested my patience too far. I hope that part two lets us off the lead a bit.
For me even if they just updated the graphics and add voice acting, I'd still would play it.
If they’d done that. It would have been good
It's what everyone with more than two brain cells to rub together reasonably expected. But no, we got a shitty meta commentary pseudo-sequel. What a fucking waste.
Are you blind they completely change battle system?
That's a reasonable wish, but this remake caters to people who believe that the original is somehow too "massive" to be contained in a single game as soon as you give the 3D models more than 10 polygons.

TLOU2 was such a horribly bad game too.
Like the gameplay itself was solid since it was a copy paste from the first game, but the story itself was totally irredeemable. Not one second of character dialogue that wasn't cringe inducing.
Though I will say the version of take me on that you get to play in the music store was fucking awesome!
@@charmingpeasant9834 well, the japanese, at least in their entertainment media, depict and explore a lot of different sexualities and sexual identities.. or any other kind of identity. I’ve not played the original since its release on the PS1 so playing this was a great walk down memory lane and then of course the story kept twisting and making little changes and I fell in love with FFVII all over again. I loved this remake and everything from the writing to the music really made me smile. With rebirth due out soon, I hope that trend continues as we plunge into sort of uncharted territory.

I have no source, but I remember hearing that they decided to do the remake now because they feared they wouldn't live to see it done if they left it longer.
Nice profile picture
Some devs have said that but its hard so say how seriously they meant it.
No, they didn't even want to do it--they said it was "boring" and only agreed when SE basically gave them a blank check to do anything they wanted. Fuck, neither of them even wanted to direct it; they were fighting to NOT be in charge. This is the opposite of the original; it wasn't someone with vision struggling to get the money and support to create his masterpiece, it's suits seeing dollar signs and looking for someone to foist the job on.
It's true. There's only 3 devs left that were on the ff7 team 25 years ago.
I actually liked having to switch characters on the fly regularly. They all play differently from each other and it felt fresh longer than if you only played one and the other two were expertly ai controlled.
That made the game more fun tbh, even though I like XV as well but it was dumb of them to include the character switch 2 yrs after the game was released, 7R thank goodness gave us the option.
lmao, last string of bossfights - switchswitchswitchswitchswitch
Stupid mechanic for the ADD patients of the world
Yea but the issue is if you don't switch constantly your punished you should have the choice.
When it comes to the telling of the story I do not like the modernization changes, or the revealing of Sephiroth so early in the game.
I remember this game was this huge incredible fight against this giant mega corporation, and then you fight to the top and get to the guy and find out he’s murdered with a 2 story tall samurai sword, and Cloud is all like “ oh fuck….oh fuck…oh fuck….” Only to find out there was something even worse out there…..then you get to the open world when the game really opens up.
The changes ruined that surprise. But the core game is fuckin great.
Here’s the problem… you know the story already.
So the changes were understandable
I think it's still surprising that the fact it didn't happen, for those who knows what's supposed to happen at least. But yeah Sephiroth's first appearance is hard to top

Razor is very particular about video games. If there is even a hint of over cinematized content, his rageometer goes overboard.
Really loving the new channel, bro! Love from the States!
Earlier this year I decided to jump into final fantasy with almost no knowledge of the series. I started with seven and almost instantly was hooked the music the atmosphere the general characters and plot are also unique but at the same time feel grounded. when I finally beat the game It was unlike any other game I had played I wasn’t wanting more asking for a next part I felt satisfied.
If you liked 7 then you need to play 6 and 8 as well. 9 is fine, and so is 10, but I think the real magic of the series is 6-7-8.
I listened and read several reviews. From what I can gather, the combat and graphics are really stunning and fun to watch. But the game in a nutshell is essentially 5 hours of story (That's being generous apparently) spread out into a 30 hour game filled with useless filler and fluff. The entirety of a 40 hour on average PS1 story based game doesn't really justify it being spread out into chapters. The fact that this remake on the box isn't being called FF7 Remake Part 1 or Chapter 1 should tell you all you need to know. Even one of my buddies, who is a HUGE fan of the FF franchise didn't know it was being segregated into parts until I gave him that tidbit. Anybody who says the remake being separated like this isn't a blatant move for more profit over the happiness of the consumer is being intellectually dishonest.
You know, the real truth about the original game is, that the first part is fcking magic. Midgar is beautiful, story filled, tragic place with intense plot and so on. You really enjoy going trough it.
...And then, suddenly, you are sent to this open world with absolutely nothing in it, that takes forever to get to anywhere in, with little to no sense of purpose and abstract ethereal "must follow Sephiroth because Reasons" plot. The areas you go to, like Gold Saucer are absolutely tedious, with incredibly bad, mind grinding music that last forever.
Then, at disk 2 or something(at cloud drop and team capture) it gets good again... with actual plot elements in the story.
This was _absolutely_ the right play. Make the best of the first part of the original game.
Then actually flesh out the second part that was such a failure.
Then nail down the last part, the same way you did the first part. (And add reason to play the added content, as, you know, the game gives you 5 days before the comet hits, and then you have a full disk to spend on other stuff... which you can't do, because it breaks immersion. You don't have the time. )
You realize the devs said multiple times they want to expand the world and lore of ff7 right? You'd know that if you followed the development. Theyre gonna implement all there is, so AC, CC and DoC. They already did so with Yuffies dlc. Those original 5-6 hours in og are much more fleshed out in remake, its called character and worldbuilding dude. Midgar was already super rushed and linear in og. I could talk about several missions, dialogues and cutscenes that add so much more to the game, the og didnt at the beginning, making it so much more relatable and fleshed out, but you havent even played it so.
Let's face it: FF7 Remake is the Hobbit trilogy...butter scrapped over too much bread.
Have you seen the production quality of this game? It obviously took a large fortune to make this part alone. You really think they’re supposed to deliver triple this amount of content and possibly ever make a profit off one sale? Or is anything but purposely taking losses and going out of business a scam?
@@bogusjuan4998 I don't consider triple this amount of whatever the fuck was delivered lmao. The main story, combat and graphics are the attraction of the game and when the main story is pretty much the same just with side character development, that's not "content". That's "filler"
This game is absolutely awesome. Surpassed my wildest expectations.
The marketing was actually pretty deceptive, it's not actually a remake, not really. It's a sequel to the original game.
And only part of it.
Wtf are you on about
@@simongraves8339 - Have you played it? The game is a sequel to the original one, it takes part in an alternate timeline and the events of the original FF7 have already happened before, it even links to Advent Children! So WTF you talking about?!
@Code Turtle but this particular remake cannot be considered a separate game! If we consider the Remake as a separate game, then too much does not make sense without the context of not only OG FF7, but the entire compilation. For example, the scenes with Zack at the end without context make absolutely no sense. For an uninitiated person, this is simply incomprehensible as scenes with a completely unknown character correlating with what is happening. And given that no explanation is foreseen for several more years, this makes Remake a terrible stand-alone game.
Did you play the original? It’s definitely a remake

After a certain point, that's your fault.

The live action lion king is a clear example that making an "almost" exact copy of something that was great, doesn't mean it'll be any good.
Props to square for taking a chance!
The sad thing is the remake of Lion King is the 5th highest grossing film of all time :/
@@jonbaxter2254 That IS sad. You know your movie is shit when the best voice acting you get comes from the likes of Beyonce. Not even the great James Earl Jones sounded like he could give a shit about the movie.
They don't deserve props for ANYTHING when they're slicing ONE game into god knows how many titles to milk the cash cow.
This is a low iq take. The reason why lion king remake is bad is not because it followed the original storyline. It is because the realistic visuals cannot convey anything, the characters cannot emote, it looks like an uncanny valley nature documentary, whereas the animated style lends itself well to perfectly conveying human like expressions and emotions.
Betraying our expectations of what the remake was going to be and changing the story into some kind of meta alternative timeline sequal has not won over any new fans but just only succeeded in cheesing off a huge number of fans of the original.

"Her overall design in the remake is heavily inspired from that film."
You mean heavily inspired by Rinoa? Compare her AC outfit to that of Rinoa's in FFVIII cutscenes and artwork. Square Enix has always had an internal ethics committee, and while we didn't hear anything from them, directly or indirectly, on AC, it's not a stretch to say that they likely gave direction for Tifa in AC similar to what they gave the directors for the remake.

FF7 was a formative video game for me. I was dangerously close to being hyped for the remake but then it came out and my older bro got it and informed there was dimension/cannon hopping stuff to do with Kingdom Hearts and it put me right off.
It is not directly related to KH but this "remake" is in fact either an intentional or unintentional sequel since Aerith and Sephiroth knows the future by proxy of the OG and their "new powers" (Sephiroth straight up spoils things and being in the Midgar arc with "3 different" kinds of him and Aerith induce visions that trancend space and time by touching and being near people, like her own death). It is repeatedly spoiled what is going to happen to Aerith (although foggy) and we see meteor fall twice. There are also time beings, most similar to dementors from Harry Potter or TVA from Loki. The end has the party enter a rift that most likely is omnitemporal/null time (a space without time) and Cloud travels literally into some space that is 7 seconds before whatever the planet dies from this time. Oh, and Zack survives his last stand at the edge of Midgar in the past because the party defeated physically manifested fate within the space-time whatever.
This ain't KH, but it sure feels more like that than FF VII. Sorry for spoilers >_

Barret was honestly my favorite character in the remake. Felt like a genuine relatable character. I mean not saying the others aren't but Barret just felt more fleshed out.
Odd thing to happen for the Japanese version of Mr. T. Seriously.
Physical strength is not what makes these characters strong. Yes Tifa can beat up bad guys but her strength comes from the fact that she endured so much pain and suffering from the hands of Shinra and is still a compassionate person. She is the voice of reason and even cares about the lives of normal people at Shinra. She wants the cycle of suffering and hate to end but not by killing. In contrast to Jessie who has given in to resentment. And Aerith is a powerful mage but what makes her strong is the burden she's carrying. Being the last of her people. Watching her mother die. Knowing things about the future (and probably even seeing her own death). When Barret says he can "hear the planet cry out in pain" imagine how that must be for Aerith because she can ACTUALLY hear that ALL THE TIME.
And still, even with all that, she doesn't give in to despair and does whatever she can. Even if little tasks like bringing flowers to the orphanage appear a bit trivial to her it is not to the other people.
THAT is a characters strength. And in JRPGs you have a lot of that.
Perfect timing, Drinker! I was just about to eat a hearty breakfast!
Lmfao i also eat breakfast while watching his vids
I absolutely loved this game as well, and I was in a similar boat to you in that I forgot about it and played it a fair bit after launch. I loved every second of it and played it start to finish in about 4 days.
So glad Drinker covered this. I agree with most of his review. As a big FF fan, I’m satisfied with this game (thus far). FF7 is probably my favorite game of all time, and they did it justice without pandering to a demographic - thanks Japan. It captures the spirit of the original game, while opening up doors for the future. The characters are great, the voice acting is spot on, the materia system still works decades later, and the added rpg elements (leveling up your weapons, switching characters on the fly, etc.) is killer. If I have one problem with the game - which may end up not being one when we finish the remake - it’s the plot ghosts. On one hand, I like the meta nature of it. It’s almost like the whispers are us purists - the majority of FF7 fans - who wanted the game to be a 1:1, desperately trying to keep the game on track. By the end of the game, determinism is lifted from the equation, and the characters literally have free will to do what they want. Will Aerith still die? Will Cloud search his psyche and come to grips with who he really is? We truly don’t know, and I think that could be fun to watch play out. What I and many others don’t want is a timeline where past Cloud meets future Cloud, and they do battle with 69 Sephiroths. We don’t need FF7 to become Marvel. Keep it simple. For that reason, the game is a 9/10 (solid A) for me. Could be a perfect 10/10 if they nail the landing.
Also: Red XIII is a good boy
Thanks Drinker!

You Are NOT a FF fan. Anyone wrote who likes this trash can never make that claim. You are a pretender.
As someone who's played most of the original but not the "remake" I would've preferred the "remake" being an actual remake instead of a reboot.
If the developers wanted to tell their own story in this FF universe then they should've made a sequel or spinoff in my opinion, not needlessly change the original.
Well, Drinker got it wrong. It's not a reboot, its a sequel, specifically to OG and Advent Children. This is far from a reboot of any kind.
it a sequel not remake.
Agreed.
It's like the RE2 remake. I LOVE RE2 and was hoping for a REMake-style update.....a few tweaks here and there, but fundamentally the same game with modern graphics.
Instead, we have just another modern Resident Evil game with an RE2 skin.
YES THIS Drinker doesnt understand the meaning of the word remake, this "remake" is mmore of a psuedo sequel than anything, especially in adding some BS time-based villain instead of the OG story which was fine on its own.
They genuinely should have just called it FF7-2 with what they did with the story. I wasn’t a fan of the changes either.
