I always liked the way the Traveler woke up here and how that fleet woke up. It gave me the sense that the Traveler had been keeping watch and it wasn't "dead" like everyone said. It only woke up here because Ghaul was no longer at a level where the Guardian could take care of him. So it had to wake up as a last resort and when that fleet started moving it gave the reason why the Traveler didn't do anything until this moment. It was because it knew that the enemy would home in on it the moment it woke up.
I believe that it "died" on purpose by itself during the collapse, causing the darkness to leave and therefore let humanity recover, but since it re awoke the darkness needs to return to finish the job.
Kinda crazy to think that while we may have been cheering and feeling victorious, the Traveler was probably feeling defeated and sorrowful. Humanity had failed to survive without the Travelers direct intervention, and now they would soon suffer the arrival of the Darkness.

I have a theory. The light that Ghaul took became tainted by his evil nature, this meant that the Traveller was not able to reabsorb it for some reason, perhaps the reason our guardian is so powerful and able to use the dark within themselves is a result of us using the last bit of light left in a corrupted shard of the Traveller, and taking the light that Ghaul took. This could also explain why we are so powerful compared to all other Guardians, including the legendary ones like Shaxx, Shin Malphur, Zavala, Ikora, Saladin etc, not only did we then gain the power of The shard and the power that Ghaul took but we got our natural light back as well, which could also be why the darkness struggles to corrupt us and take control of us like it did to Uldren and the various Dark Guardians like Dredgen Yor. Presumably this is all part of the Travellers grand plan. And presumably Calus and Mara both know about this plan somehow.
I LOVE THIS THEORY!!! And it makes sense too!!! I hope you don't mind, but I want to add on to this theory. Judging how close our Guardian or Young Wolf was from our final battle with Ghaul and the Traveler when it first awakened. We were (probably) the first guardian that was touched by pure Light from the Traveler when it woke up. It would be no surprise that we would be extremely powerful than the rest. And seeing how Ghaul just got utterly evaporated by the Traveler, with his being getting scattered and carried with it's light. We must have absorbed it when we got hit with its shock wave. I like to think of it as being a gift from the Traveler for making it this far, even though we gained our light back. We were the ones who brought the Vanguard back together during this crisis. We never really lost faith or determination for the Traveler, like the others had. I believe that the Traveler understood this and granted us power stolen from Ghaul. Imagine this, our lightless guardian having to face an powerful being to the death. No light, no resurrection, its just us and our weapons. With Ghaul ascending even further with the Light than we had ever seen before, the Traveler witnessing this knew that we stood no chance against this. So it woke up and gifted us his stolen power, as a thank you for your unwavering loyalty. I love this scene and it would have been more impactful if this happened instead. Of course we are a playable character and were destined to be overpowered as heck. It's still a pleasant thought to think about from time to time. Lol, sorry for rambling so much. I love this game to bits!!! ❤❤❤❤
I would like to draw attention to the cutscene where the Traveler's Light spreads all across the solar system. You may notice the first three places it cuts to are Mercury, Mars, and the Reef. The first three expansions took place, in order, on Mercury, on Mars, and in the Reef. If this isn't a big coincidence, then cutting to the Dreadnaught from Destiny: The Taken King after highlighting the Reef could mean that Bungie plans to use it in a later expansion.
I am not being rude, however, your assessment is public knowledge. the game director of D2, Luke Smith (I believe), had originally stated that the cutscene aligns with content for the future.
@@peripateticguy55 Well that was 2 years ago, and the reveal of the other expansions names doesnt have to mean that. As evident by one of them referencing savathun, that could be the expansion wherein, the dreadnought might make a return. and with the DCV, in theory, it could make a return at any time without necessarily being a big part of the story. It would seemingly be more accurate to say, "if any content is planned for a dreadnought return, it is potentially further in the future than originally thought."
I only joined D2 at around S12-S13, but damn watching old cutscenes from the Red War, Forsaken and Shadowkeep (which I've played and are incredible), it makes me more excited for Witch Queen and Lightfall, and I wish I could replay the BL campaign without having to delete my character.
Altho my hunter is my main and has been so since The taken King, I'm gonna delete her end of solstice if there's no more events and grind up a new one and BL is NOT something I wanna do tbh
You wanna know something even more crazy ? At the end if you hear well you can count the "tic tac" when the darkness them starts, it does tic tac 8 times and there's 8 extension if this was planned that's just too good
Not necessarily. Light and Dark still would be the ultimate forces and Light is produced by the Traveler, as evident by even tho we were cut off from it, it could still react on its own and that shard if the Traveler still has its own residual Light. The addition of another paracausal entity is only the addition of more Hive/Guardian/Worm God/Ahamkara like beings and considering how many other rumored things also use the Dark and by consequence what we assume are other creatures that exist that can use Light probably wouldn't really break the game. in fact, I'm sure if the Traveler wasn't made to act, she would have no problem with the cabal using the Light. it was the act of being restrained and confined that forced her hand because it meant the "wager" had been interrupted. also it's implied that she didn't just kill him, she only meant to free herself, but knew that acting to free herself would, by consequence, kill him as well as make the darkness act again. also for all intents and purposes, there is no skipping rules. the rules of the game are already open to change/ influence/ or they can straight up make new ones at will. "I am growth and preservation of complexity. I will make myself a rule in the game." and "thus rule of the game became nomic. open to change by our influence." Ghaul, more accurately would be playing into the complexity part and that's why she had no animosity towards him. Ghaul died because he trapped the Traveler and stole what Light he could. however if he just got his hands on Light without the cage she would've been less likely to act.
@@AtenSol12 Reading about gnosticism religion (where destiny is deeply based on) looks like the traveler is the demiurge. If true, then basically the traveler is an entity that stole the Light to her mother Sophia (who commands the pyramid ships). In short words, Sophia is an aeon that tried to create life without her male counterpart. As a consequence, one of her sons separated from herself instead of just being born as usual. That son got the Light from her and ranaway with it to become a god of all material world. He became a beast with the body of a lion, the tail of a snake and bright eyes like phoenix's eyes. Horrified by what the other aeons could think of her if they saw that beast, Sophia covered it with a cage of "wisdom" (the white shell of the traveller). In order to the traveler to be a god of the material world, he started creating different life forms without sharing any of the light with them because the traveler wanted at the light for himself. Or maybe sharing as minimum as possible. Thus he created the 7 seraphs (warminds) for protecting to himself and then he also created the 5 worms. Traveler negated any form of Light to those worms and thus they were born with an endless hunger. There is also a lot of more stuff going on but im not an expert in gnosticism. If all this is true in the game, then that stolen Light should return to its original place in order to stop the chaos that the traveler is causing. Sophia is trying to fix her mistake. She isnt darkness but another form of light. But her light looks darker compared with the power that the traveler stole from her. She reminds the humanity that her light is there by showing us the aurora borealis because that light can be seen during the night only
0:34 That moment when you've spent your entire life to be worthy of the Traveller's light and when it finally confronts you, you get a voice crack... 😔
As the camera pans to the Darkness Ghaul says "dread it, run from it," *light washing over the pyramids bringing them to life* "Destiny always arrives"
I love how well this game utilizes leitmotifs like, they’re everywhere! And with this trailer they already start selling the melody that is associated with the darkness/pyramids
Imagine if we got to fight the big light ghaul. As an actual difficult boss and we fail so the traveler is forced to wake up and deal with it. Which would actually have given our character some inner strife to deal with after feeling at fault for not doing well enough after years of never failing.
The fact Ghaul said the word “witness” only moments before the pyramids showed up on screen is probably the biggest coincidence of the entire game, if coincidence at all.
After coming back to watch this cutscene I just noticed the almighty right next to Mercury. It’s crazy how much they actually planned from the beginning.
destiny has some truly beautiful moments other games simply cannot create, but my god it pisses me off that bungie truly never reached the potential they could have with destiny, and sadly never will.
They are doing pretty good these days. This might be a standout moment but so was the the season of arrivals live event, it could've been slightly better if it weren't as rushed in the video portion, but still it was quite the sight.
@@sicklymoonlight Idk about that. I’ve heard they aren’t making a Destiny 3, and they will have one more expansion after Lightfall, which comes out in late 2022 or 2023.

I think people forget these days how powerful the traveler actually is. With Darkness under our belts now its easy to forget that the Traveler gave us the power to become paracausial and literally kill gods. Not only that but its fought off the black fleet 3 times now and won.
i love the point you are making in this comment. Though im not sure if "win" is the correct term. I would argue for stalemate or "survived" a fight with the black fleet. cause, depending how one counts a "win", yhe fleet has won more than 3 times

@@cavedskull Yea yea! ik! the tower looks so cool rn. I'm not opposed to getting a new destination next season! just looking at what they do historically, I don't wanna get my hopes up.
I want to point out, every where the traveler touched we have gone or eventually went. We went to mercury. We then got a mars expansion with the warmind. Then we got to go back to the reef with forsaken, and you can see saturn and the deadnaught which likely will return with the Witch Queen DLC, and then the Pyramids which basically was the predacessor for the next 4 DLCs starting with Shadowkeep.
Wait, when the light wave hits the pyramids.. that thump before the sound.. isn't it only exclusive to the Beyond Light login theme? Talk about foreshadowing lol
I think it is the leit motif of the pyramid ships themselves, and I make the distinction because the "darkness" and the "winnower" seem to have a different sound ascribed to them that is more higher pitched eery and mysterious as opposed to the the pyramid ships. the sounds ascribed to them seem to convey power
it's a leitmotif that appears in a lot of places. in Arrivals, the planets that had the pyramids arrive had it mixed in with their usual destination theme, and Gambit also has the darkness leitmotif at one point during its main OST, and now of course in the Beyond Light main menu
Yo I just realized within this cutscene you see the other DLC's as the light spreads up untill the pyramids. That just shows how much Bungie planned for this game
Bro I know full well you know what happened when Caiatl asked the same thing like 4 months ago. You orchestrated it. at least use a different phrase or be coy about it 😒
Personally, I loved the red war.. I would reset one of my characters just to live through it again because it was such a thrilling experience when destiny 2 came out.
As someone who followed closely to all things Destiny, I took one look at the silhouettes of those pyramids and knew right then what they were. I screamed aloud before the Light even washed over then.
Well if you think about it, the wave of light is getting faster and faster in every cut. Because it appears to be expanding in the same amount but the scale gets bigger every scene.
I thought about applying normal physics to this, but I think how it's seen in video is how it's meant to be taken at face value, so it's probably that initial velocity = final velocity because it is supposed to be a wave of Light, it's probably just takes more time then would be reasonable to show on screen so they just show it at the point it matters. however, I admit... Light and light in destiny don't have to behave according to normal physics so it's possible that it is speeding up.
0:45-0:58 small detail, but notice the daybreak behind the traveller, I feel like it's supposed to be equally symbolic as the Traveller itself waking up
Gaul must have been an insane level threat for the Traveler to just delete him like that. Oryx? Nah. Savathun? Nah. But big glow Gaul boy... ohhhhh yeah let me take care of that real quick.
Or kind of like Seattle, have a secret underground last city that the remnants of the red legion fled to and have the raid in there. The red legion use the darkness to resurrect ghaul and he’s the final raid boss
So with the new context from the Witch Queen... Can't help but notice that one of the Black Fleet ships is massively bigger than all the rest. The Witness's ship, perhaps?
Holy shit. Guys listen up. When Ghosts die they give off a similar explosion of light, resulted by new Guardians. MAYBE this can occasionally revive Ghosts like a food chain of releases. If another release like this happens we may get a revival of certain character's Ghosts. And thus maybe them.
Every time I look at the Dark Fleet activate, the white lights that appear on the ships kinda feel like they’re smiling sinisterly, like a slow, creepy, knowing smile as they slowly turn towards Sol.
If you pay attention when the light reaches the certain planets it's almost in the exact order as the campaigns mecury, mars, the reef,a green mist which looks a lot like savathûns throne world

❤❤❤❤
bad theory
@@AtenSol12 I did not know that. I only started playing the game about a month ago.
@@onedaxster welcome to the light, guardian!
and yea it was like some interview or some shit when the game released
@@AtenSol12 It doesn't seem like content is for the Dreadnaught is planned now.
It would seemingly be more accurate to say, "if any content is planned for a dreadnought return, it is potentially further in the future than originally thought."
ghaul i think it's bad luck to monologue before you die
classic supervillain mistakes *face palm*
I only joined D2 at around S12-S13, but damn watching old cutscenes from the Red War, Forsaken and Shadowkeep (which I've played and are incredible), it makes me more excited for Witch Queen and Lightfall, and I wish I could replay the BL campaign without having to delete my character.
Altho my hunter is my main and has been so since The taken King, I'm gonna delete her end of solstice if there's no more events and grind up a new one and BL is NOT something I wanna do tbh
@@AtenSol12 Yeah it's a grind for other characters, but Stasis is worth it. Or, at least for PvE.
The absolute BEAUTY of those chords right as it glowed. Chills every time
Rightttt I can’t stop replaying it. It’s so awesome
Ghaul: "I am immortal. A god!"
Travler: "Uh the fuck you say?"
Entirety of Ghauls Character: "Notice me Senpai!"
Traveler this arc: "You all hear something?"
„Witness the dawning of a New Dark Age“ Ghaul knew way ahead of our time…. That’s some huge foreshadowing. Well written Bungie.
You wanna know something even more crazy ? At the end if you hear well you can count the "tic tac" when the darkness them starts, it does tic tac 8 times and there's 8 extension if this was planned that's just too good
Ghaul becoming a new paracausal entity would crash the flowers game simulation. Thats why the Traveler "skipped" the rules and finished him.
She reminds the humanity that her light is there by showing us the aurora borealis because that light can be seen during the night only
Traveler be like: “bro cabal wielding light it’s not even light fall yet time to sun set you too”

I love how well this game utilizes leitmotifs like, they’re everywhere! And with this trailer they already start selling the melody that is associated with the darkness/pyramids
Ghaul: i am immortal! A god!
Traveler: lol no.
Imagine if we got to fight the big light ghaul. As an actual difficult boss and we fail so the traveler is forced to wake up and deal with it. Which would actually have given our character some inner strife to deal with after feeling at fault for not doing well enough after years of never failing.
traveler was really like, "bruh yall take WAY too long to kill an egotistical space turtle..."
The fact Ghaul said the word “witness” only moments before the pyramids showed up on screen is probably the biggest coincidence of the entire game, if coincidence at all.
@@GebTheNerb dead on
Ghaul forgot that he needed a ghost, Savathun will not
After coming back to watch this cutscene I just noticed the almighty right next to Mercury. It’s crazy how much they actually planned from the beginning.
That space and music and everything scene is so beautiful omg
The effects on light ghaul is still amazing
destiny has some truly beautiful moments other games simply cannot create, but my god it pisses me off that bungie truly never reached the potential they could have with destiny, and sadly never will.
They are doing pretty good these days. This might be a standout moment but so was the the season of arrivals live event, it could've been slightly better if it weren't as rushed in the video portion, but still it was quite the sight.
don't forget they're NEVER ending the destiny franchise.
season of the chosen and splicer (so far) have been excellent seasons too.
I have high hopes for witch queen, the symbol for it is literally the top of the taken king symbol
@@sicklymoonlight Idk about that. I’ve heard they aren’t making a Destiny 3, and they will have one more expansion after Lightfall, which comes out in late 2022 or 2023.
@@ElementalMatrix they confirmed that they aren't making D3, they're committing to D2 and making new stuff.

The black fleet when they see anything traveler related: 👁️👄👁️
I think people forget these days how powerful the traveler actually is. With Darkness under our belts now its easy to forget that the Traveler gave us the power to become paracausial and literally kill gods. Not only that but its fought off the black fleet 3 times now and won.
i love the point you are making in this comment. Though im not sure if "win" is the correct term. I would argue for stalemate or "survived" a fight with the black fleet. cause, depending how one counts a "win", yhe fleet has won more than 3 times
I speculate that on light fall we’ll become what ghaul did at the end so we sorta have some epic attack on Titans fight
Why do you expect this?
'Ight, so when are we actually going to the dreadnaught/Saturn
hopefully next expansion = (

Time flies. I remember starting during shadow keep and starting day one. Almost 2 years later and so much more to the game.
Everyones talking about the pyramid reveal but the traveler exploding gives me chills
That is the principal Darkness theme. Appears altered in Gambit, Arrivals, Shadowkeep’s _Admittance,_ and Salvation.
Even after all these years this cutscene is still my one of my favorites in destiny universe
indeed
Yo I just realized within this cutscene you see the other DLC's as the light spreads up untill the pyramids. That just shows how much Bungie planned for this game

It’s crazy how they kinda teased each dlc with each planet getting touched with the light
Traveler gives such a fleeting vibe, its like an old friend also I think its gonna go away soon leaving perhaps...
shhh, dont say such things
Every time I watch this it gives me chills
Well if you think about it, the wave of light is getting faster and faster in every cut. Because it appears to be expanding in the same amount but the scale gets bigger every scene.
I thought about applying normal physics to this, but I think how it's seen in video is how it's meant to be taken at face value, so it's probably that initial velocity = final velocity because it is supposed to be a wave of Light, it's probably just takes more time then would be reasonable to show on screen so they just show it at the point it matters.
however, I admit... Light and light in destiny don't have to behave according to normal physics so it's possible that it is speeding up.
@@AtenSol12 paracausal entities can't really conform to physics so
Ya, Dat why I conceded it might be speeding up. I still doubt that it is
0:45-0:58
small detail, but notice the daybreak behind the traveller, I feel like it's supposed to be equally symbolic as the Traveller itself waking up
I dont think that is daybreak, i think that is the Traveler waking up and so it is the Light the Traveler produces thats behind it.
Gaul must have been an insane level threat for the Traveler to just delete him like that. Oryx? Nah. Savathun? Nah. But big glow Gaul boy... ohhhhh yeah let me take care of that real quick.
1:50 to 2:20 reminds me of halo 3s ending and in the music it played a piece of the theme.
As it all know.. "Light CANNOT BE STOLEN"
just gonna say they should have made the fight to take back the last city the first raid or raid like activity we get the tower. Then Levi soon after
Or kind of like Seattle, have a secret underground last city that the remnants of the red legion fled to and have the raid in there. The red legion use the darkness to resurrect ghaul and he’s the final raid boss
So with the new context from the Witch Queen...
Can't help but notice that one of the Black Fleet ships is massively bigger than all the rest. The Witness's ship, perhaps?
Many people point this out as a possibility along with it being a more "direct" opposite to the Traveler.
1:15 Everything from this bit on is so beautiful.
If some space turtles can steal the light a god that's been alive for thousands of years definitely can.
Holy shit.
Guys listen up.
When Ghosts die they give off a similar explosion of light, resulted by new Guardians. MAYBE this can occasionally revive Ghosts like a food chain of releases. If another release like this happens we may get a revival of certain character's Ghosts. And thus maybe them.
Very interesting theory! it's very possible, but I assume it would be an intentional move by the Traveler
Every time I look at the Dark Fleet activate, the white lights that appear on the ships kinda feel like they’re smiling sinisterly, like a slow, creepy, knowing smile as they slowly turn towards Sol.
any red war campaign player knew the black fleet was coming. it was only a matter of time
Imagine, He comes back like Uldren. Without memories
if cabal could come back to life because the traveler chose it, the story would change pretty massively.
Would be quite interesting
Not going to lie, kind of want to go back and play this mission again. But that’ll never happen.
