    Here in the States it's first and last month rent and a security deposit upfront. The security deposit varies from place to place but it's usually $500

    They do the same here in B.C. Canada, they call it a "damage deposit" though and even non-agents (owners) charge that as well. It used to be half the rent amount but has grown to a full month's rent now. However, if there is no damage when you leave they give that back to you, which you would then put towards your next rental. Lovely weather there in Tenerife :) enjoy!

      Yes they have that too, as well as the estate agent fee. The deposit is returnable at the end of the tenancy if all is in good repair, but the estate agent fee is just a one off fee for absolutely nothing!!

      @@OpenHorizonLifestyle Yes, same here for the agent fee, but it's charged to the owner, not the renter.

      Ah I see. Yes, the same in the UK. That’s why I was shocked to find it landed with the tenant here in Tenerife 😲

    I wouldn't complain as here in Germany the estate agents have always charged you 3 yes three months rent for their services, plus you have to pay your deposit to the landlord

    Where is best in Tenerife to get a long term rental through the owner

    • @OpenHorizonLifestyle
      @OpenHorizonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Andrew, I’ve left Tenerife now so Ive o ku just found this. When I was looking to rent I mostly went through Idealista. A lot of people simply put a sign in the window with a phone number, that is also fairly standard practice (it was when I was there two years ago) so sometimes just driving or walking around an area you would like to be in and looking for signs can be a good way.
