Thank you everybody and thank you to Vic Firth, Craviotto drums, Sabian Cymbals, Remo heads, and Drum Workshop hardward! It was a pleasure to play with the Airmen of Note at my PASIC clinic/performance. You can get the CD, Blu-Ray Pure Audio 5.1/9.1 Surround, Vinyl, Reel-to-Reel Tape, and digital downloads at CDBaby, Amazon, Elusive Disc, TapeProject, and iTunes.
This is the drummer for the film Whiplash! I’m so happy he’s finally been credited! I could right away when I heard this and the give away was the use of double bass in the film even though it had a single pedal. He uses one in his own stuff so that’s amazing! I feel complete!
@@bg357wg The credited drummer under “Varèse Sarabande” record label for whiplash’s soundtrack is Bernie Dresel. Miles Teller did drum, but he drummed over a pre-recorded track, the track you hear in the film. And he’s about 1/10th the drummer of Bernie, but the editing sold it that he played well, that’s why they won the Oscar for best editing.
@@BIGBIRD208 oh wow well then there we go, thanks! I actually know for a fact it can’t be miles in the tracks. Yes we do technically hear him play in bits of the film, but definitely not the track.
The drums are set ergonomically for his body. His angle is some elses night mare. He was raised playing trad grip and those of s that were use some angle.
I got the opportunity to see Bernie play in person when I was 14 at the chandler gilbert community college auditorium, I’ve never had a more edge of my seat experience when it comes to music! Phenomenal player you are Mr. Dresel!!
Bernie, the first time I ever seen you play was with Brian Sester.I said to my self this guy is incredible. Well sir you out did yourself again. What a pleasure to see you at it again. Thanks for showing us how it's done. Magnificent.!!!
High energy performance all around- band is so tight! I would like to know who the soloists are: especially enjoyed the tenor sax solo- Bernie is rockin’ it true to form! He needs a glasses strap endorsement so they stop falling down his face!
holy shit what did i just witness?? amazing drummer, refreshing jazz style and darn smoky chops. and this lead trumpet is banging out some nice high notes as well, damn.
What does it mean to have command of your instrument? That right there!!! Loved your work with Gordon Goodwin, Brian Setzer, and this performance is stellar.

Bernie Dresel is an incredible and powerful drummer. It´s just to see him playing with the Brian Setzer Big Band to realize his amazing technique, skill, good taste on drums. Plus, he´s really a good guy and very funny too.
Definitely doing paradiddles or paraparadiddles with his feet. Never heard of this guy: awesome stage presence, really interesting technique and energy. Great band in general (super tight brass!). Thanks as always for posting this and exposing people to some of the hidden jewels out there!
Cool! I love those horns! Pretty arrangements and it looks like he's having fun when playing with another section or supporting a soloist. I need to find some heavy dark ride cymbals...
Monsterdrumma Thank you! They are all Sabian cymbals. 17” & 18” Artisan crashes (thinner weight). 21” HH Dry raw bell ride (the main ride), 14” Artisan Elite hi-hats, 22” Artisan Elite ride (secondary ride to my right), China (sorry I forget which one).
berniedresel Thanks so much Bernie! I hit an HH raw bell in a music store once before and said man that is a great sounding ride so I am not surprised there! One other thing could you tell me the snare? also I just re-listened to this on real speakers and your whole set up sounds killer and you knocked it out of the park!
Ed Shaughnessy used a fairly heavy pingy ride. The cymbals he's using are perfect for big band because they cut. But yeah I'm not loving the bass drum sound either. It could just be how it was EQ'd.

so happy to see your name come up on a Vic Firth page! Love the album too (from Australia)
Jesus, man. Been a fan for a while now.
You're a monster behind the kit!
Mr Bernie, you just made a fan out of me. Excellent work. Very unique approach!
Michael Miner did ya get Live N’ Bernin?
The closer I pay attention the better it gets! Bernie plays GREAT!!

A jazz drummer with a double bass pedal and an insane snare angle. I’ve seen it all lol
Incredible playing!!
What a snare angle!
I scrolled down to see if that would be the top comment. It was.
The drums are set ergonomically for his body. His angle is some elses night mare. He was raised playing trad grip and those of s that were use some angle.
Most likely he learned to drum with a marching snare.
Yeah dude, unreal angle. Works well for him though 👍
@@BokuPower NOT necessarily.
hell yesssssssssssssss finally bernie getting some recognition in the drum world

Unbelievably musical player. What a legend.
How could I've been missing on such a virtuous drummer until now. I'm simply amazed.

He’s terrific! So are the rest of the musicians!
I saw Bernie in 2006 with the Brian Setzer Orchestra, and he was the best drummer I’ve ever seen! He was on fire that night!
His dynamics and articulation though, always on point.
He's such a passionate player it's so nice to see
Astoundingly beautiful!
holy shit what did i just witness?? amazing drummer, refreshing jazz style and darn smoky chops. and this lead trumpet is banging out some nice high notes as well, damn.
As a drummer and a USAF veteran, this rocked me to my soul!
Bernie this is a stunning performance on drums, just beautiful. Great players and exciting tune.

fantastic playing!
Yeah Bernie!
Neat little trick at 7:11. Great stuff!

WOW !... JUST .... WOW !!!!
Jesus - and I thought I tilted my snare away. That's some serious tilting right there. On a more serious note though, the drumming is phenomenal.
masterful playing good sir.
The God of JAZZ blessed you and me with Bernie Dresel... You are welcome -God
Convinced that he is the drummer on the Whiplash soundtrack. The end of this solo sounds just like the Caravan finale.
He is lol. I looked it up, it’s how I found this video. He is the drummer who played for Andrew neiman.
Nicely done!
Fabulous!
Bravo!
Fenomenale!
Awesome
Good bunch
Such a Great Band! The drummer has a Very musically style of playing. Looks like a mix of Woody Allen & Elvis Costello.👍🏾
Wow!
Airmen of Note are a tight horn section. impressive.
Muito bom, maneiro demais!
good play!!
Whoa..A cooker and a half. Great chart.
Chart is "Crossing the Boulevard" by Andrew Neu. great arranger and composer
Yayayayaya!! I am the first to comment and he was smokin at PASIC17
I don't know what sounded better: the playing or the snare drum
WOW
holy moley
bravissimo
I just stayed to watch the guitar player's face.
Crazy+Good = Crazy Good

Monsterdrumma All the drums are Craviotto. The bass drum
And Toms are ash. The snare drum is Mahogany 5.5”x14
Tbh I only clicked because the thumbnail 😅
No regrets here 😌👍
Yeeah nice
some fantastic playing and dynamics. but bit of a funny kick drum sound isn't it? clickier sound than a usual jazz type sound.
mrbtapir - The ride has more "ping" to it too. I think the extra attack helps to cut through all the horns better.
Ed Shaughnessy used a fairly heavy pingy ride. The cymbals he's using are perfect for big band because they cut. But yeah I'm not loving the bass drum sound either. It could just be how it was EQ'd.
I think it's a good big band sound. This isn't a quartet. =)
Sounded to me like he was dead stroking a lot of the bass drum hits.
Sounds like he likes it tuned low... big deal
I was NOT expecting him to use a double bass pedal ... goes to show that even the most reasonable assumptions are still just assumptions. Fantastic!
CRAVIOTTO!!!
Nice men. Cool
