This video is amazing. My dad was stationed in West Germany after the war, he told me stories of how bad things were in Germany, he said that there was hardly a building or wall left standing. Historically important for people to see and understand what happened after the war and how it shaped Europe - thanks for posting 👍

The West Germans and Japanese were incredibly resilient and built modern and prosperous nations over the ruins of their war ravaged nations. Footnote: Stalin was no Marshal.

I spent two years in Germany end of 1956 to 1959 -stationed at RAF Hospital Wegberg, in the medical branch. I traveled far and wide across Germany and other nearby countries, and saw just how quickly they had rebuilt so many towns and cities. The variety of goods in the shops was way better than was available in shops in the UK, Leeds, my birthplace. Coming home on a brief leave was a big contrast and I was happy to be back in Wegberg. They were very interesting times and I enjoyed the friendliness of the locals wherever I visited and stayed. 👍😁🎷🎼📷🇬🇧🇦🇺

Haben Sie damals in Wedding den Krieg miterlebt? Mich würde sehr interessieren, wie stark der Sprengelkiez von der Bombardierung betroffen wurde.

Actually, there was good reason why the Soviets withdrew from the Four Power Commission. The three Western Allies had a meeting in London without any Soviet representatives and refused to tell the Soviets in Berlin about what transpired during that meeting when the Soviets asked about it. Nobody was without blame in this early Cold War conflict. The Soviets did not abandon any agreements they made, as the three air corridors to West Berlin remained open. Near the end of the war, there weren't any negotiations made with the Soviets regarding the surface routes to West Berlin.

Chet Pomeroy another troll of Russian propaganda, a perfect example that the evil Communist spirit from Stalin's period is still alive. Russian never met the democracy in their history and they will act always in this way.

As mentioned in the book "The Battle of Berlin", Nazi leadership did not allow civilians to leave the city, and ordered that civilians be used as human shields. The same author wrote the book, "The Day Kennedy was shot".

Is there still a Reichsadler on the building in the background at 10:50?

That is Tempelhof Airport which was remodeled by the Nazi architect Ernst Sagebiel beginning in 1936. Those eagle statues were designed for expressly for Tempelhof Airport by Sagebiel. Many were removed, especially those perched on swastikas, but some are still visible on the buildings' facades to this day - minus the swastikas of course. The last planes landed here in 2008. The building has since been used as a conference center and function hall, and the city senate is working on a concept as to how best to use this ambivalent group of buildings in future.
ps: It is not just any Reichsadler but an NS Reichsadler. The word Reichsadler simply means "imperial eagle" and could describe any heraldic, imperial eagle since Roman antiquity.
