When I used to listen to Can't Buy Me Love when I was younger, I always thought "Well, just an old Beatles Tune." But when I started studying music theory, it became clear to me how unusal, new and fresh this song was for 1964. Genius.
Some years ago I picked up some German bootleg recordings of the Beatles early sessions. You could hear alternate takes and some isolated work tracks on some recordings. Truly amazing to hear a work in progress before the finished recording. Thank you, Sam. 🎧
Sam this sounds absolutely amazing, definitely worth the wait! I've always enjoyed the solo to this song because of the aggressive playing style it kinda has. Great job as always and keep up the great work!

Loved it. Electric subtleties and the rhythms on the acoustic, including the off beat anticipated baseline and those downstrokes. John didn't play any of his customary dirty open string transitions here? It sounds very tight.

They were performing live in Paris and had been asked to record German versions of I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You. They had some time left over and decided to record Can't Buy Me Love and then some lead overdubs were added back in London (I think).
Exactly what Nick said. They recorded the song in Paris and then deleted George’s guitar track and did overdubs later. But you can still pick out what George’s Paris guitar is doing

The anthology version is great because you can hear the original gretsch tone clearly, but the song’s style is totally different at that stage
