I've been using zoom for a couple of years and I think it's far more user-friendly and teaching-friendly than a lot of others. The only downside (which isn't zoom's fault) is that it can be very difficult, although not impossible, for students to use the interactive stuff if they're using a tablet.
Thanks Dave. I am sure you know more than I do. I have been using for a short while but I have been working with these types of tools for a long time. I agree Zoom looks pretty good. Thanks for the comment.
hi there Roger. In breakout rooms can share different whiteboards or screen shares? E.g breakout room watches a video while breakout room works teacher on language vocab activity.
That's incredible : ) You've just brightened up my day again - I feel much more at ease getting to know how to cope with all that distant teaching/learning challenge that came out of the blue. Definitely will share your brilliant training sessions with all my colleagues. Thank you so much for supporting all of us. Loads of health to you and your kin : )
Thank you for your lovely comment, Inna. Please DO share my videos. We need all the help we can get at this present time. www.teachertrainingvideos.com/Zoom
Hi Rusell, Excellent video! Can you share a screen with an activity, video, etc. in each Breakout room for students to work at without me being there? Many thanks.
No that is not really possible. The students would need to have access the video themselves. this video might help you www.teachertrainingvideos.com/maximise_impact_breakout_rooms
The second idea I suggested is making use of the IWB software that normally comes with the book you are using. In the third part I am using the IWB software that is provided by Zoom.
Joy, to make the recordings I am using Camtasia. It is a screen capture and video editing tool, www.teachertrainingvideos.com/screen-recording-software/full_introduction_camtasia
On your screen share, I saw a lot of other windows and applications where You just click and share right away easily. I had a hard time even putting 2 TH-cam videos on 2 different squares. I know you said that open the website first before the zoom. How did you have so many opened without problems? Please advice as I struggle sharing. One time my laptop freeze on me while teaching.
Hi Victoria. Each window that is opened, including a browser window showing TH-cam, should appear as a option to share. Enable computer sound for videos. Maybe just open those windows you want to share and no more. Too many open windows *might* make things freeze for you, but that would depend on CPU (processing ability on your laptop). You can jump from one scren to another as I show in this new video: www.teachertrainingvideos.com/Zoom_what_students_need_to_know
Hi Anna. Thanks for your question. No, it's not a different app. There is an in-built whiteboard when screen sharing. But I think the default is for it to be switched off. Take a look in the settings - there are lots of these - which give you control over what you and your participants can and can't do during a screen share. R.
@@ttvRussell ok I see how to share the whiteboard, but in your example I see it says Interactive Whiteboard Software, so is the screen you're working with something that you've created ahead of time and then are sharing that slide?
Hi Russell, v. useful vid! Just wondering, what interactive white board software would you recommend? Especially for overlaying on top of PDFs and the like during calls. Thanks

Hi Russell! If I share my screen on Zoom and share the computer sound with them, can they no longer hear me through the microphone? Is there a way to share the computer sound AND still be heard?
That is strange. I didn't realise that happens. Surely if you just pause the video when you are screen sharing, they can hear you. I am sure that I do that very often.
@@ttvRussell Thank you Russell. I had never tried using the computer sound share before. I tried it today for the first time and realised I was worrying over nothing!
Hi there, Labsitters srls. Zoom does have an in-built whiteboard feature, as well as an annotate toolbar. You could use a virtual whiteboard in another program and share your screen, taking screenshots in order to save work, as one idea. Russell.

Hi Lawrence. At the point in the video where I am showing i Wonder, it is the platform's own IWB. But there is also a IWB within Zoom that you could hand over control to..
@@ttvRussell Thanks for that. I will definitely look into it. Also how do you add more options in that 'Basic' share screen category ? I only have desktop, whiteboard, iPhone/pad cable/airplay, safari. Is it possible to add things like Google drive ? Mac pages ? Final cut etc ? obviously I can share most through the desktop but I would like to have the option if possible.

It creates an audio file and a zoom file. You might be clicking on the wrong one or you might not have a video player app on your computer, so it can't play the video. Watch this video www.teachertrainingvideos.com/record_lecture_with_Zoom
The Interactive whiteboard is a feature within Zoom. When you share your screen, the option usually appears as the second window, after the (whole) 'screen' option.
If students are using a Chromebook (or the likes), they cannot write on a Zoom-shared screen. Chromebooks, etc. don't allow for participants to "annotate".
Selina, is that so? I didn't realise that. Are you sure about that? I don't have a chromebook. Normally you set up the option to annotate in the settings or when you are screen sharing and I would have thought it was a browser issue, not a Chromebook issue. Thanks for the tip, I am going to look into it. I have added more free Zoom videos here www.teachertrainingvideos.com/Zoom
@@ttvRussell It's not a browser issue, it's a Chromebook limitation. Most of my Ss have Chromebooks or a Dell version. The tab or option to access "annotate" is simply NOT available on a Zoom session on a non-host's screen. The host can annotate, participants w. Chrome-type-book cannot annotate. Period.
Thanks so much for sharing great ideas. When i choose to enable remote control of all applications, i see that the students can all draw sth simultaneously. Can they type sth then? I try to type but i cannot.
Hi Doan. Typing and Annotations only work when screen sharing is enabled for all participants, which can be done in settings before the meeting or during it. Once you or they start to screen share, then the main remote controls go to the person in charge of sharing their screen. But anyone else should be able to annotate, draw or type text.
