    My limited color palette consists of Quinacridone Gold (yellow), Permanent Alizarin Crimson (red) and Payne's Gray. For the background later on (stylization) I also used Shadow Violet by Daniel Smith, this color strongly granulates and helped me with some texture and effect. Hope you enjoy the tutorial!

    This was a fantastic lesson, particularly the part where you showed how you create swatches for the various layers. That solved many mysteries for me regarding watercolor portraits. Thank you!

    Incredible tutorial, this is like an entire skillshare class for free! I especially like how you broke down each layer into those steps at the beginning, thinking of it like that might help me not overwork layers so much. You're such a well spoken and encouraging teacher! 🥰

    I saw your art on my thread and was instantly drawn to your style and technique. I read your bio and I have to say that I followed a similar path. I studied Pharmacy due to family expectations but deep inside I knew I was always an artist. Unlike you though, I never had the courage to follow my heart until recently. So here I am immersing myself in learning from everyone whose work inspires me, absorbing everything like a sponge! ❤

    One of my favorites so far. I really like how you broke layers into cards while glazing. I usually just wing it or go with the flow imitating what I see knowing I have to put in my lights, midtones and darks. This kind of broke it down mechanically for me and made me think in a different way. I usually have a cow too when I put in the shadows. Im always thinking relax Jessica, you're not done and haven't put in the dark darks yet. It will fade. But I find those in between moments anxiety filled. When I'm done, I'm like I knew it would fade, why was I so worried. I need to try the gold leaf someday. Such a cool effect. I really enjoyed how organized this process (tutorial) was even tho you come off as a free spirit expressive most of the time. It's always helpful to see how other artists break things down and process things and how one can learn from different techniques or those that are different from our own. - Jessica

    • @JaneBeata
      @JaneBeata  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Jessica, loved your comment! I guess my free spirit got only released for the stylization :D That was fun enough for me, as well as the gold leaf. You're so right about the stress when laying down the shading wash, I am nervous every time, even though many times I painted like that and it always, ALWAYS look so pale when you add hair & background. It's a psychological moment and I guess we have to use tricks for our mind there, to keep going :)

    Just found your work and I’m on a binge of your videos. So helpful and relaxing to watch. I’ve only recently started watercolour and your videos have inspired me to both take bigger risks in trying more ambitious paintings and to plan a little more carefully to improve chances of things working out like swatching.

  • @moonlightgator
    @moonlightgator 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Gorgeous portrait Jane. I enjoyed watching you painting. I do not often paint this way. It is just too stressful and time consuming. You should add more gold leaf like you did on a preview.

    • @JaneBeata
      @JaneBeata  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching, I know what you mean about layering technique being too time-consuming, because it is. But when going for this kind of detail, I find it the only way. However I'll try more expressive 1-2 layer approach next time and we'll see :)

    • @moonlightgator
      @moonlightgator 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JaneBeata This is the reason I like colored pencils you can stop and continue any time. With watercolor you just have to paint for hour/s at a time which is really hard when you have house and kids and homeschool to deal with. I am not complaining just do the best I can. 😉

    the point is with 100% cotton the dried version is way more lighter than 25% cotton. i switched between the two and often find 25% better than 100% for portraits. the darker values are more accentuated.

    13:20- 23 you can see a change in filter so then which one is the real version? It seems filtered to look better than it is in real life- cameras are naturally good at that so it can be so misleading

    • @JaneBeata
      @JaneBeata  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What filter?? Its two cameras, Nikon and Canon, each have a different color profile. I do live workshops and demos all the time, do not need to filter anything. This artwork hangs in my studio, visitors view it every weekend. Do you know that every device has its own color profile and shows internet photos and videos differently? There is no way to show artwork in a video in the same way you’d view it in real life. I assume every internet user knows that there is always some shift. This, however, doesn’t prevent one to carefuly explain the process, as I tried.
