As a teen I was so madly in love with Paul McCartney(as with so many)Probably into my 20s, too. His music, of course, his voice, his cute-to-the-max looks, etc. Then when I found out he’s a serious nature lover, living out on that farm in Scotland, my heart just melted! He was my dream man.
And the Beatles were and still are a staple in my life!
    Sorry for the memory-based rant,..
    Thanks for posting this video!

I think most of us fans find that farm almost magical. For me, it doesn't matter if it's rumors, myth, etc. I take it all in, when it comes to Paul and Linda, in Scotland.
Personally, I find endless comfort in the songs and tales. The videos, footage, all that stuff. It never gets old.
I've always imagined Paul coming up with most of the songs off RAM, at the farm. True or not, I get lost in those moments. Endless memories, thanks to Paul and Linda.

You’ve created a beautiful video, clear and vibrant in all of it’s color. You’ve captured the Scottish countryside exactly the way I would imagine it with all of its moorish landscape would look like.

I was probably 13 or 14 when the ram album came out. I'm 61 now, I love putting it on every 2 or 3 years. Paul McCartney is the Albert Einstein of writing music❤.
I'm very lucky too have grown up with the beatle era😁

I thought this was an inspired journey. We have all seen the footage of The Beatles at Shea Stadium with the huge crowds and the mania in full flow. It was lovely, and an important part of The Beatles story, to have that footage contrasted with this quiet, rugged place where Paul went to repair and reinvent himself. Great video!

In 1977 we visited Scotland following the release of Mull of Kintyre. We stayed at the Keil Hotel (now abandoned) facing the Mull of Kintyre and across to Belfast. It was so exciting for me, a big McCartney fan, to speak to the staff about how Paul and the band had stayed there during the filming. He and Linda was unhappy there were no vegetarian meals on the menu, so she rushed home and brought back the fixings for everyone which they cooked up in the restaurant’s kitchen. We drove out to his farm and recording studio. We were told if the shutters were open, it meant they would be there. “Just stop in. He’ll probably invite you in for tea!” We walked Crescent beach where the video was filmed, visited the lighthouse, and talked to the locals. Paul is adored by all. They told stories of surprise visits to the local school to meet the children. Although I did not meet the legend in face to face, talking to those that knew him well was second to best. But I did cross paths with John and Yoko in NYC, sadly the summer before he was murdered. But that’s another story.

    • @jacks7461
      @jacks7461 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tell us that story?! That’s amazin’ . Think it was different for them then. They could walk the streets. See loads of fotos of celebs then just walking about. Foto’s of Paul and Linda in Liverpool too from her exhibition just walking about. Graceland has no big fence too. If that was nowadays it would have a sentry. Maybe it did.

    • @1625suzieq
      @1625suzieq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Things were indeed much different back then. There again, there wasn’t much up there in those days. Lands End had the Keil Hotel, a church, a pub and a few cottages. You know, the essentials. The nearest town was Campbelltown, and even that was small. It was an amazing experience for me. I was just 21 years old at the time. My parents felt it would be our last opportunity to travel together and they were right. I married two years later. But what a magical tour it was. I saw Paul’s house in London, Apple Studios, crossed the infamous cross walk. Then we headed up to Scotland. Pure Heaven! The locals up there said Paul and Linda were down to earthy sorts, although I think she kept him grounded. Now John and Yoko were just walking down the street in NYC as a friend and I approached. I couldn’t believe it. But I remembered how he said he loved NY because “people don’t bug you”. So I merely smiled. He nodded his head, tipped his hat, and smiled back. A very precious moment. I returned there four months later for a far more solemn reason, his vigil. Maybe I didn’t get to rub elbows with these two, but these memories I still hold near and dear.

Thanks for the great video! As a lifelong Beatles fan, it's really interesting to see the farm from this perspective. The whole area has sort of an eerie quality to it, and then nestled away in this remote little place is this piece of Beatles history. The whole video is a bit of a treasure hunt, in a way. It's too bad that Paul doesn't go back here anymore, as it was such a big part of his post-Beatles life - but I'm sure it has a lot to do with Linda not being here, hurts too much for him to go back there.

In july 2018 I visited the VK for a week and in the Netherlands was an terrible heatwave with severe drought. When on the ferry towards the VK I already loved the cool seabreeze and when on land and travelled further north and see Scotland for the first time, I was taken aback and fell instantly in love with the rough nature. For the first time I loved it was cool and partially cloudy, reaching the Atlantic standing on Isle of Skye never seen so much colors of blue. The whole experience was breathtaking, oh and Scottish people are very friendly. Awesome video. 👋😀🇳🇱

I enjoyed your video, Craig. It is great that you were able to hike so close. When I was in Campbelltown in 1978, I stayed at the hotel near the Mull of Kintyre. Some of the McCartney entourage were there, including Denny Laine. I was able to speak with him a moment. I did hike around the area and took great photos of the Mull of Kintyre, but I was not close to Paul's actual farm--at least, I don't think that I was. It was beautiful countryside, though. I was hoping that I could have met the McCartney family, but I was very pleased with my experience.

Many thanks for taking the trip and putting mine and others curiosity to rest, much appreciated.

Great video. You were very respectful as well by not going too close. I LOVE this mccartney period. I love love love the Mccartney album and Ram. The mccartney album was all recorded on the farm and if you listen carefully you can here the kids coming In and out of the studio. The album is beautiful and idealic. Simple yet brilliant. I actually went to Campbeltown in about 1979 with a girlfriend and we tried to find the farm but was to far in the wilderness. The best ever though was that we stopped off into a pub in the evening and a folk group were playing and they actually played Mull of Kintyre. A very magical moment.

    ...
It's a place where maybe "in our minds" we all need to retreat to in order to keep our sanity ???
    ...
It was a beautifully "clever" move to locate in a remote area in order to start a new career !!!
    ...
Because to write that first song ... (Uncle Albert) .... he had to pick up those disguarded rocks and stones in order to make a wall !!!
    ...
If he had not ??? .... he would still be fighting those people to this day !!!!
    ...
The gentleman had "WISDOM" ... that i have lacked in my life !!!

A delightful stroll Craig. I'm guessing you provided some of the uke too! Loved Ram when it came out and had a vinyl copy once. I've never been to Kintyre but often looked over from Arran in the past across the bit of water called the Sound of Kintyre. I wonder if some of the fencing was deer fence, usually high to stop them jumping over, and with new conifer plantation that would be required. An idyllic place really. But I agree, the memories for Paul might be too much.

I love Scotland, and your video is just like being there on a walk with the hardy colourful foliage, calm enclosing weather, and beautiful silence The commentary with the associations with P Mc are a great context providing an interesting background thought for this stroll; the few clear notes of Ram on, are a perfect soundtrack; all these elements blend brilliantly for me. At first I thought hmmmm 20 minutes might be a bit long; but as usual on such walks, I could've stayed longer, doing nothing but being there. Thanks, good 'un.

Love the song “Ram On” and appreciate your playing it during this video, that was lovely to hear that ukulele sing. Cheers from Old Highway 66 where Paul stopped with Nancy in 2008.

I'm quite familiar with that landscape, having escaped to similar often.
The McCartneys didn't always fly in and out. They were stranded in Glasgow on Great Western Road once when their car broke down (early 1970s?). Local policemen were intrigued to find a genuine popstar driving some beat up old Land Rover, but the McCartneys came out of it very well, having charmed everyone.
I always liked McCartney as a person, and have grown to appreciate his music more and more as time has gone by. Big fan of the real fifth Beatle too, George Martin, and I'm well jell you managed to work with his son Giles, who continues to do amazing work with the Beatles back catalogue. [Funnily enough, I was watching a video all about AIR Studios just the other day!]

Nice video . I was stationed at RAF Machrihanish in the mid 70's while serving in the US Navy , the video brought thousands of memories . Don't you just love the fog , lol. I miss being there with all my heart. I felt like I belonged there . Maybe it's because by blood I'm mostly Scottish . My clan comes from Perthshire , north of Edinburgh . We have the family dated back to 1,000 AD . My clan also fought with Wallace at Methven castle and other sites as well . I have traveled to many places on this earth and seen many things but nothing as nice as Scotland . I did a few paintings of Machrihanish as viewed from the US Navy barracks . I always enjoyed watching the spindrift fly from the wave tops . And every now and then would see a few seals playing on and around the rocks ar the north end of Machrihanish beach . Golf balls do turn at a 90 degree angles and the Machrihanish golf course , the wind can be quite unforgiving there . Yes , the Mull of Kintyre is a beautiful place , and the people are great . While there visit The White Hart Hotel , they had a really good roast beef meal while I was there ... enjoyed the video . Hand salute from a Vet .

I believe they had one of the good marriages and lives together, rare these days, Linda inspired me to become vegetarian... did you ever see her cameo role in the bbc tv sitcom calked Bread... hilarious... I love watching videos of Linda... sorry she left so young... great mother, great life, great wife, great person, great animal lover, great role model, talented to boot... thanks Craig, best wishes to you and yours Helen (fellow animal lover)
