Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson (13 November 1850 - 3 December 1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist, and travel writer. His most famous works are Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Stevenson had long been intrigued by the idea of how personalities can affect a human and how to incorporate the interplay of good and evil into a story.
While still a teenager, he developed a script for a play about Deacon Brodie, which he later reworked with the help of W. E. Henley and was produced for the first time in 1882.
In early 1884 he wrote the short story "Markheim", which he revised in 1884 for publication in a Christmas annual. One night in late September or early October 1885, possibly while he was still revising "Markheim," Stevenson had a dream, and upon wakening had the intuition for two or three scenes that would appear in the story.
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novella about the destructive duality of human nature as exemplified through the saga of Dr. Henry Jekyll.
The bulk of the story unfolds through the actions and reactions - or perspective - of John Gabriel Utterson, a lawyer, upstanding citizen, and close friend of Dr. Jekyll. Utterson hears of a hateful man named Hyde, a name he recognizes as the main beneficiary of Jekyll’s will.
Utterson resolves to primly unearth the truth about Hyde’s providence and relationship to Jekyll. Upon questioning and pleas from Utterson to get rid of Hyde, Jekyll is obtuse and immovable. Hyde’s rampage around London comes to a halt when he brutally murders Sir Danvers Carew.
Jekyll’s health deteriorates and he secludes himself from society until his death, after which through a written deathbed confessional, Utterson learns that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two sides of the same man.

La verdad es que cuando hicimos este video no lo conocíamos! Mi marido, en una de sus expediciones por las librerías de viejo encontró el libro y, como siempre estamos buscando buenas ilustraciones, lo compró.
Luego hemos descubierto que el tipo de ilustraciones que hace son bastante distintas de estas y, siendo muy buenas, no entran en el tipo de videos que suelo hacer.

Cuando leo el libro, hace muchos años, los pelos como escarpias. Después cuando volví a releerlo el miedo fue, tal vez, a más; porque el planteamiento de Stevenson es aterrador, todos podemos llevar un monstruo dentro, el otro yo, el desconocido.

OMG rather spooky! I really enjoyed reading Dracula last year and must again read another gothic novel. I may try Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
I did have a video scheduled for Halloween and its on my desktop nearly complete but I just have reservations about my film creations nowadays :)

Creo que te gustará el libro del Dr.Jekyll & Mr.Hyde, aunque quizas menos que Dracula, a mi me gusta mas Dracula.
Quizas uno que te gustará es "The Historian" de Elizabeth Kostova, del 2005. A mi me encantó!
Y por supuesto siempre puedes leer a Edgar Allan Poe, uno de mis favoritos ;)
