Why the off-the-wall comment? Clearly, this tournament is NOT played according to APA rules.

Nick G Dude, this is an APA sanctioned tournament.... Also, the shot at 14:13 would not have counted unless this was played under APA rules. And if you're being sarcastic, you have no point.

thelasteventhorizon I was not being sarcastic. The rules regarding the use of a jump cue and marking the pocket for the 8 ball were not used for this tournament. These are the rules that most people think are "stupid" As far as "slop counts", even at the amateur level, study of the outcome of league play shows that a slop shot RARELY influences the outcome of a match anyway. And for the better league shooters (APA Level 5 and above) ,it has even less impact than many folks believe. The shot that you call out, at 14:13 ,didn't affect the outcome of even that game, much less the match. As for the reason for the slop rule, the founders of APA must have realized that calling every shot in a noisy bar environment, with opponents that rarely pay close attention to every shot, is an invitation to needless arguments. Remember, the APA is primarily supposed to be a fun league ,so most rules are designed to eliminate fighting . You can still think the rules are stupid, but please understand WHY they are what they are.
      Nick

Nick G Yeah Nick I pretty much agree with you. I'm a BCA fan and have always thought APA rules are a bit lenient, and I've always known it's more of a fun league. Calling shots does sometimes cause silly arguments, yes. I've always liked sports that rely on pure skill, and as little luck as possible. I like snooker because it's point-based, and I like calling shots because once you miss, you pretty much lose the rack most of the time. I'm a huge fan of statistics, but when it comes to pool, I'm more interesting in principle than stats. I agree though, that strict rules can cause arguments and tension for a rather casual and fun game. Thanks for the feedback.
