      it will show as an accident anyways because hes documented this car extensively on this channel. but yes that vette is an easy fix. as others have said, do the parts yourself, and take to pros for paint.

    Dang you are a youtube rebuilder, fix the dam corvette yourself...the damage is minimal, fiberglass repair easy to do, and then get a paint shop to match the color and do the actual painting without the insurance claim.

    • @beatglauser9444
      @beatglauser9444 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree: Very simple repair, specially the fender! Let a pro paint it after you did the first repairs. Surely there is plenty of youtube videos showing how to repair fiberglass professionally. Watch and learn. Buy good repair materials. It is actually not that hard. Just take your time and don't rush it.
      I actually hit my own car also: If course it was my favourite oldie. And I killed a nearly impossible to find moulding! so you are not the only one.

    • @luispedras9560
      @luispedras9560 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't advise to do the paint job him self even the fiber glass need a good finish to receive paint job !!! Trust me I'm a pro air less painter ! The front panel of the corvette you can maybe get it whit a polish but I doubt Vue the damage done on it ! Door and and front panel need paint job ! But in a painting "room " to don't get the bad painting coat that Z had in the back panel!!

    • @luispedras9560
      @luispedras9560 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blue you said that your mate says that it's hard to get the same colour of factory ! It's almost impossible , you need to have a Pc colouring program from the brand mark you use the do the mixing of the pigments in order to get same colour ! So grab your coulor paint code and go to a paint car shop and ask them to formulate the Colorado you have the code for it ! And even so I advise that you bring the car to them to get some samples of the paint they done already applied at it , and do the match ! The painting dude if he is good he can do same colour 98% match to match !! And the problem is that paint is metallic so when applying you need to get the same amount of spray when you spraying , normally to that paint is 2/5 or 1/5 hands , depends of the person that use the gun and the size of the metal pigments and quantity on the original paint ! More easy to do then explain 😂 Sorry about my English is a little hard to write it because I have this in French Portuguese and English 😂🤣😂🤣 but I think I get the pic!👍

    Cracks in fiberglass, are easily fixed, first run a jigsaw through the crack to relieve any stress, if it's a long crack band aid the outside and fiberglass the inside first, to put the strength back in the panel, then drill out the band-aid pop rivets and do the outside repair. Band-aids are strips of aluminium, cut about 3" long, you pop rivet them onto the outside of the crack your repairing. We used 1/8"X1" trim to make the band-aids. I fixed a 2' crack in a flybridge of a boat some years ago, you can do
    it, I'm no expert, but don't let it intimidate you. :)

    Been down that road before. Fix the Vette during the colab. With the 350z, then have a pro shop pait it. It is a very simple repair. Don't file a claim, people do this kinda of repairs all the time. No need to replace any of the parts. Good luck!!

    I was parking a 1998 BMW 780i that we had on consignment, and a pole in our parking lot we had cut down caught the front bumper. It was much lower than our usual cars so never had an issue until I pulled the front bumper off this BMW. I had to pay to fix it at a body shop. Good lesson haha. I also cut what was left of the pole down to the concrete, and smashed it many times with a sledge.

    The door is a relatively easy repair. You use Kitty Hair short strand fiberglass filler. Clean up the damage, and fill it with the kitty hair. Same thing for the crack in the fender. Grind out the crack [ V groove ] ,fill it with kitty hair. Then get Weird Beard to finish and paint. Or do all the body work, and get a body shop just to do the paint.

    I had a 1989 Corvette, that was hit on the right quarter panel. The quarter panel had a rip approximately 15” long, that went all the way through. Not to mention the scrapes marks, before and after the rip. I let Macco do the fiberglass work, and paint it. True, that they had to do it twice, but it looked great when it was finished. It cost me approximately $1200. I had to eat the cost, because I had a few drinks at a party. When I left the party, I got hit by another drunk driver, who didn’t stop. What a lesson!!!

    Not worth filing a claim. You don't want it in your insurance history. Fix the vette the right way and all will be good. The Z is a no brainer because you were going to fix the the rear panel anyway. At least you didn't back into one of Tyler Hoover's high dollar junks.

    We have a turn around in our driveway so that when we back out of the garage, we back into the turn around so we don't have to back down the driveway. However when we have company, they park in the turn around. My wife and I, through force of habit, have backed out of the garage and completely forgotten there was another vehicle in the turn around and have backed into it. Just one of those things!

    I did something similar to back bumper on my truck. I'm planning to replace myself thanks in part to seeing what you, samcrac and others do at home. I would get the blue out with some acetone or lacquer thinner and do some fiberglass repair. Maybe do another collaboration with the beard. If you are not 100% happy with the repair use this repair as a temporary fix and hold out for a red door and/or fender. Good luck man!

    I worked in the insurance industry many years ago and I can tell you the Damages on the vette can add up to thousands of dollars, Just by the parts needed that you shopped around for. I would call insurance company and file a claim then take it to the dealer to get professionally repaired, that’s what insurance is for.

    _I feel sorry for you man. It always feels like if someone punched you in your stomach if you end up in an accident with a car that you really love._ I would clean up and inspect the damage very carefully. *Maybe it is a good idea to talk to Weird Beard if he can fix the Corvette? He has the skills, you can rent a painting booth and buy quality paint of course.* Then, with the whole car detailed it will look like new again! The 350z needed a new quarter panel anyway if you wanna do a proper rebuilt job. I think the Vet will cost you some strong money, but he deserves it and Weird Beard is a skilled and fair guy so I would trust him more than any bodyshop that the insurance choose!

    I had a similar event happen a couple months ago. Wife backed out of the garage and over corrected into my car and filed a claim on insurance to have mine fixed ($2000) and everything is ok. It really depends upon how you want that vette fixed. Also, if worried about resale value you can take before/after pics for proof. Just my .02 worth. Good luck either way.

    I KNOW THE FEELING
    I know exactly how you feel. I backed my Chevy truck into my AMG Mercedes front end and took out the front fender headlight and grille of the Mercedes, did nothing to the truck bumper! I had just parked the Mercedes there and then backed up the truck and a neighbor waved at me, I waved back, then he started waving like crazy, but it was to late, boom, the truck stopped, I hit the left front of the Mercedes. I fixed it myself, I restore cars and trucks as a hobby for 40 years, it was still expensive enough to hurt. I had just restored the Mercedes so I still had some paint left over, or I would have really been in trouble. But OUCH! It is not cheap to replace a headlight and grille on any Mercedes, much less an AMG Mercedes. I learned to watch where I am going real quick as you did now too. I get out and look around before I backup anything now just to make sure I am clear of hitting anything.
    PAYING FOR REPAIRS
    Fix it yourself! DO NOT FILE IT WITH THE INSURANCE! It will cost you a lot more in the long run! ALL your insurance rates will go up. Have your friend Mike fix both of them! He has the experience you said, so he can do it right! PAY OUT OF POCKET! If you use insurance, it will end up costing you much more in the long run than paying out of pocket.
    PAINT BOOTH at HOME
    Either setup a portable paint booth to paint them (rent one) or if you want to go cheap and still have a good paint booth for the two cars, get two 12x12 easyups (Walmart $75 each) put them next to each other and wrap them with .7 mil (12'x400' at Home Depot about $40) roll of satin clear plastic and make your own paint booth. Get a couple rolls of grey tape to tape it all together and tape the plastic to the ground. Overlap it at one end to get in and out but still have it some what air tight to keep the dust out. Buy some cheap furnace filters (Home Depot under $10), cut holes in the plastic and tape them in at one end and get one or two 20" box fans (Walmart $16 each) for the other end to place a filter inside of it with it blowing out to get the over spray etc out! I also lay some plastic on the ground under it and spray it down with water before painting to keep the dust out. The paint jobs come out perfect!
    Good luck! If you have any questions feel free to ask!

    Feel for you man i really do but hey as you say it is what it is. First of all no body got hurt that is the main thing. The Vette is an easy fix without insurance dont sweat it. As you get bigger you may think of getting a bigger workshop where you can park everything out of harms way. The damage on the Vette and Zed should buff out ok, look forward to seeing the end results. Randy some advice. Randy if I were you I'd get estimates from local body shops using replacement parts that you provided, including color matching the replacement parts. See what it will cost if you paid vs. insurance. Other solutions would be to get used replacement parts color match and install them on the Vette yourself. Not only will your insurance company probably raise your rates, but they will insist on returning the car to pre-accident condition, using new parts if possible. Which will cost them more money than if you did the work. Of course since you still have a loan the lender may require an insurance claim be filed.

    Randy!! Take it to a body shop and see what it will cost out of pocket that is mostly superficial you just need that fiberglass looked at and that probably won't be that bad, and if it does end up being a bit much then insurance it. Check off all options before going to insurance

  • @H4K4N
    @H4K4N 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of that will buff off. I think the residue on the door is the bondo from the 350z, not fiberglass. I would get a rubbing compound and go to town. If the damage is too much and if you want to claim insurance, scrape the 350z to the corvette again to transfer paint again :)

I always had a laugh at a good friend of mine growing up, his parents had a straight driveway just big enough to park 4 cars with enough room for each one to get out of needed. Every one of their 3 cars had/has scuffs on all 4 corners as a result lol. Happens to the best of us my friend

    So, depending on the color...A door can be had for $400 and you can resell the door internals and glass from the old door.

    Tough break on the double wreck but you will get thru it. Get the Vette fixed right. If ya gotta claim it do it. Good luck on painting the Z I'll be watching
    Also just bought my first copart. Also an f150 but supercrew as a beater truck. Broke your rules of no enhanced and buying without checking first but it was too cheap to pass up. Looking forward to your experience and maybe we can swap build stories

    Don't claim it on your ins.
    Go to a local body shop or ask around that has a good reputation and tell them you are a car dealer and need a wholesale price for the vette fix.

  • @45AMT
    @45AMT 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Randy. So sorry this happened! I'd send it to a body shop have it fixed. (or have Mike fix it) If you can afford it just pay for it out of pocket. Keep the Vette's carfax clean and also your claim history.

    Bad day! I dont think i would go the insurance route just yet. Like someone else said, pay a pro out of your pockit, offer some free advertising on your channel or, use your resources and fix the vette yourself! You got this! Ill be watching whatever you do.

    Are you going to keep the vette for a long time? Get three estimates at some reputable shops. Figure out how much you can do the job for, and whether you want to mess with it based on the things you mentioned in the video. Remember to factor in the deductible (if you have one) and weigh it all into your decision.
    If you plan on simply flipping the vette, take the best estimate of the three and have it fixed. For what the car is, most people will not care about minor damage because it's a corvette! They just want a corvette!

    It's body work, take it to Mike to get the fiberglass done, then take it to a shop with a booth for paint. Going through insurance will cost you more in the long run.

  • @gosportjamie
    @gosportjamie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You might be lucky with the 'Vette, that front wing/fender might just be paintwork damage, the cracks may well not extend into the glass fibre and may just be the result of the panel flexing. The door I'm not sure about, there's clearly damage to the surface of the glass fibre but if it hasn't caused structural damage to the door then it might well be possible to refresh the surface of the glass fibre and then have it painted and it will look like it did. Probably the best thing to do first is to find someone with experience in glass fibre body repairs that you trust and get their opinion on it. Obviously it would be preferable to keep all the original panels on the car, and probably a lot cheaper too. On the up-side, at least it was the rear quarter on the Nissan that was already messed up so it's no loss there. I don't think putting it through on insurance is the best idea, some insurance companies can be very funny when it's a collision involving another vehicle that you own, and you're going to end up paying for it forever in increased premiums if you do make a claim. With the blue paint cleaned off the damage on the 'Vette is probably going to be fairly hard to see, with the exception of the door, so I would suggest living with it as it is over the winter, saving up some money and getting the repairs done when the weather improves again. You could make a claim for the damage and then end up having some jackass write the car off a few weeks down the line because they don't know how to drive in winter weather so you'd have messed up your insurance record for no reason. Plus a low car like the 'Vette is more likely to pick up bits of paint damage over the winter than a more normal car like the Impala, Caddy or even the 350Z so there might be other bits of rectification you'd like to do come spring and it would make sense to have it all done at the same time...

    Ask an estimation first for the Corvette! Look into how much bonus you have with your insurance. If your bonus is higher then 35%, then try to fix for your own account, if your bonus is not that high let it repair through your insurance company.

    I would flip a couple cars and use the profit to pay for the corvette, drive it for a little with the damage. As much as it sucks its still perfectly driveable and that will keep you from having your insurance go up or having any damage history. I feel your pain though brother, slipping the mind is the only way to explain it and I bet, like me, it was because you were working on something and had your mind wrapped around it.

  • @stephenhorbatiuk2811

    Try to avoid replacing original panels.
    The door and fender are repairable.
    Take it to a corvette body man who is a specialist.
    Not some backyard body shop.
    You need to strip door and fender of all trim and mouldings.
    This will save you some money.

    NOW...... IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO MOVE OUT OF YOUR GARAGE AND DRIVEWAY INTO YOUR OWN REPAIR FACILITY, because if the accident happened due to jockeying cars around, then my point is even more valid!! You need space!! So now you are spending money twice on shit that should have never happened!!! Peace
