    Nadal has came back too many times for me to write him off , but he is definitely on a downward spiral . This year's FO is a must win for him if he wants to be in the slam race , if he doesn't win his pet slam Novak will surpass him and there will be no going back . Novak is the more likely player to finish with the more slams anyway even if Nadal wins this year's FO but Nadal knows that , he knows he cannot let the FO slip away from him or its done , Novak will without a doubt surpass him .

    I have been thinking a lot about it in recent days after his AO loss. Nadal himself doesn’t quite know what he wants imo. He wants to win more grand slams and be the greatest but at the same time he is now a father. For someone who’s first priority and most important thing for so many years was tennis it is definitely big transition. Rafa needs to think very well now about his position in live and in tennis. Nadal is definitely done. The results he did get in the beginning of 2022 were very flattering regarding his real level. Many players he played against were still impressed by his aura and lost matches they should have won (Shapovalov, Medvedev in AO, Zverev at the French Open, Fritz at Wimbledon). In my opinion Nadal in 2022 was the same as Nadal 2021, but was just luckier. That will not be enough in 2023. His opponents are not afraid anymore, and he seems to be more tired than ever (I say "tired", not "injured"). I think Nadal will barely play until the clay season. He will use this time to reload his batteries and work out a lot. Will it be enough ? I seriously doubt it. To win the French he will probably have to beat at least two players in a row amongst Alcaraz, Tsitsipas and Djokovic. That seems too hard now. In a way or another his season will be over after Roland Garros. I guess his career also.

      Nothing lasts forever, but his game rises a couple of notches at the FO. 2020 Pre FO record, 3-2, wins RG without dropping a set, 2022 record 2-1 wins the FO. Novak won Rome in 2020,2022. Rafa won 2021. Didn't matter.

      @paulmansell6113 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You have a warped and delusional view of Nadal's 2022 season. You don't win two slams by being lucky. Rafa beat Medvedev through brilliance and guts & Djokovic at Roland Garros as well as 4 top 10 players. Perhaps it is time for a brain scan to see if you have one!

    • @fabzeman2614
      @fabzeman2614 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@paulmansell6113 You cannot deny that Zverev was the better player on the court in the French semi-final, and he would have probably won in straight sets if he hadn't been scared of how he was easily leading. And I still don't mention his ankle injury. And if you read me well, I did not say that Nadal had been completely lucky in 2022, but that he had been luckier than in 2021. In 2021 he was one game away to win in straight sets against Tstsipas and he lost. At Roland Garros no one can tell what would have happened if he had won the tie-breaker of the third set against Novak. What I mean is that he was not less good in 2021 than in 2022, but he fact is that years go by and we surely can agree that Rafa is closer to the end of his career than ever. From my point of view, I guess that he will stop it this year, but I can be wrong. By the way, I just checked : my brain is still there. Thank you for caring.

    Things are not looking good for Nadal:
    * Nadal lost 6 of his last 8 matches. When was the last time this happened? In 2003 (20 years ago) - despite all his injuries. (He was ranked 45 back then in 2003). Out of the 6 losses, 5 players had their first win against Nadal and 3 losses came from players ranked out of the top 20.
    * In 2022, Nadal did not win a Masters 1000. When was the last time this happened? In 2004 (19 years ago) - despite all his injuries. (I am not counting 2020 as many Masters 1000 were cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic). Masters are sprint, Grand Slams are marathon.

    Rafa's entire career he has "comeback" from injuries. All of his injuries happen at his least favorite events or when he's losing. For example this year in Australia he lost in the 2nd round because of "injury" or last year in Wimbledon he played his first 4 matches with no problems but then the second he was losing to Taylor Fritz he tore his abdominal and fortunately ended up missing a match with Kyrgios which he probably would have lost and even if he did win against Kyrgios then would have had to play Djokovic in the final which he 100% would have lost. Also in Indian Wells final he got a fractured rib and ended up missing Miami Open which he never has won. Then in Rome when playing against Shapolovav the second he started losing he started stumbling around the court and just in case anyone missed it Rafa made sure everyone knew he was "injuried" so yes I think the end is near for Rafa Nadal

      2. Novak is now at the peak of his stability and consistency on the court and knows better than anyone how to win matches even when he's not at his best form.
      3. Rafa is now a shadow of himself up to mid 2022. Beyond the physical obstacle - he's the one now that needs to dig himself out of the mental hole he's in.
      4. Novak smells a decent opportunity to finally passing Nadal in the GS count and he's now fired up more than ever. Plus he has a point to prove, after last year he was denied 2 opportunities for a GS title.
      Seems like the only real threat to Novak in RG is Alcaraz and I think that experience will prevail.

      @@giladpachter4546 Oh? That simple? Reasonable points, so please allow me to counter. Rafa's pre FO clay court record in 2020 was 3-2, in 2022 it was 2-1. Remind me who won the FO. In 2019 it was better but he only won Rome and still won the French. You DID NOT answer my question about last year. I thought he was done when his foot flared up but he won the French with one numb foot. So, is his current situation ideal? No. But do I think he will be extra motivated and fired up? Yes, he will because the clock is ticking (for both him and Novak, Goran said 2-3 years). So don't think that Novak is the only one who is fired up. Finally, while novaks grit at the AO was commendable you are forgetting he played all his matches at night where the conditions were tailor made for his game, still remarkable playing with an injury so taking nothing away from his achievement. But that's a very different ball game at the FO. Can he hit through Nadal and Alcaraz on clay at night? Let's find out. Everybody has a plan until they get KO'd in the face. Do you think Novak is the only one who can play with a injury and win. Pick a number and get in line. Also, don't count out Alcaraz at night against anyone. His firepower can punch holes in the clay in any condition.

Of course novak was clutch in set 3 but Rafa basically quit in set 4. Imo, he shouldn't have played but even then he gave Novak fits. So, don't think he will roll over this year.
