    You don't need a degree to build something that works and yours looks like it does the job just fine. Thanks for the video.

      Thanks Lou - that was pretty much a disclaimer in case it blew up on somebody! 😏 I have done a lot of hollowing with it and it sure is less expensive than what you can buy (well, less the cost of a mig welder!)

    Thanks John for the detailed demo. and taking all the extra time to show and tell. That looks like a great tool and nothing better than DIY. Alan

    What can I say John, except thank you. I will be sure to give a good review. I will be checking the mail everyday. You really made a great video that many people will find helpful. That is the name of the game. I really enjoyed the video the only thing is, is that now I need a welder. I don't think my method with JB Weld would hold up. Thank you again. Keep these awesome videos coming.

    Bill thanks for your video. I built a captive system just like yours, and use a 3/4"square with a tip similar to what Lyle Jamieson uses on his system for hollowing. So far is has worked great.
    Thanks for sharing

    Innovative concept . Nothing else like it out there. I have been looking to make either a flex arm or frame type hollowing tool, for deeper hollowing than I can do with my D-Way hollower. Will now have to consider your solution versus a Heftier D-Way type. Thanks.( Montana Wood Art)

    Hey John, great instructional video. You are definitely getting the hang of this. This is a great design and I will try my hand at making one once I upgrade to turning larger projects.
    I'm quite interested in making my own turning chisel's too and was wondering whether or not you used a stainless steel for the main bar? I do have some carbide tips I can use for the cutters.
    Cheers and keep these great video's coming.

      Thanks for the comments Mark. The bars I use are not stainless, just cold rolled steel. The cutter I am using is just High Speed Steel and they work very well. Carbide would mean less sharpening time.

    Hello, Mike Waldt sent me over. Subbed. Nice jig!

      Thanks for coming over! I just saw his sanding video and heard his shout out . He sure has some loyal followers. My email blew up with new subscribers! I appreciate your comment on the jig. I don't think I have more than $25 in the captive guide AND the hollowing bar and laser (I got the laser free) so you can't beat that. However it does get expensive when you add in the MIG Welder. Hope you come back and thanks for watching

      It has been a BIG help to me! If you are going to deep hollow, you need some sort of guide. Thanks for watching and let me know if you build one.

      Gary - I am not sure what inserts you mean. Glad to help if you give me a little more direction. I did this video a while back and it is beyond my grey matter's ability to recall the details! 😁

      +garry cottee - no problem - they are available in many outlets. If you search "travel Mug kit" you can find who has the best price. the are usually around $10 but some times there are quantity discounts etc. happy turning and thanks for tuning in.

    Hi John how much would you charge for a jig ?? Please

    • @JohnWilliams-oq5nm
      @JohnWilliams-oq5nm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Douglas - this project is best as a DIY. For what I would charge you could buy a nice Carter system. Such as the attached link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/132/5860/carter-products-Hollow-Roller-Captive-Hollow-Turning-System-Unhandled-w-Mounting-Stud
