It's a shame that Disney just keeps on destroying the vision of their parks. At least for EPCOT, I wish Disney would add more rides that are fully themed to science, technology, and different civilizations with no IPs. I would prefer more attractions that have a similar thrill level to Mission Space and Test Track.

I always thought the overhaul felt unnecessary even from the beginning. Sure it's outdated but what makes Epcot interesting is the science and exploring different lands. Disneyland for example is charming because it keeps the old and pressuring it. Now it's just IP heavy and whatever the next big thing when Epcot is the opposite.

Disney's reliance on the trackless technology has really hurt it. The trackless technology cannot replicate the kinetic energy of traditional track and gimbal-based track style dark rides to allow for any level of thrill. Runaway railway and ratatouille are essentially the same thing. Rise of the resistance works b/c of the kinetic elements. They need to abandon it and pivot. The trackless system cannot replicate kinetic or G-forces bc the lack of a track.

As an adult that loves coasters Guardians is the only thing bringing me to the park and I won't come back until it's off virtual line only. The only way to make Epcot what it should be is by finishing the Mountain coaster it was supposed to have long ago. Every park should have 2 coasters or at least something on the level of a coaster (Indiana Jones, etc). i for one am not going to Epcot for long food/drink lines when I can easily get drunk at the hotel jacuzzi for half the price with a waiter (Lowes Hotels).

The huge issue with Disney is serious shortage of rides that people want to go on. It manufactures these fake 90 min wait times, for $100.00 per day it is not at all worth it. They need like double the rides to compete. Scenery is 10/10, ride amount is 4/10. And barely any thrills.

  • @heathermclaren9901

The Epcot 'overhaul' really is shockingly lame; minimal and depressing. The Moana water path is lovely, but should not have taken all this work; to take one example the Bellagio in Vegas turns around a similar walkthrough garden multiple times a year. It should not have taken so many years for Disney to plant a garden and build two rides (one of which was a clone.)
Disney has put themselves in a position where they are using the Parks to offset their loses in streaming, and therefore cannot spend any real money to improve or maintain their most consistent financial winner, WDW.
Meanwhile, Universal played it very safe with streaming, barely putting any money into Peacock, and instead has gone all in on park expansion. While everyone else wastes billions fighting over who will be the last one standing in streaming, Universal will be raking in a higher and higher share of park money.
I made fun of Peacock back when it launched, but in hindsight Universal made the right move.

The most outdated thing at Epcot continues to be the current version of Journey into Imagination. Epcot had this huge overhaul, and yet that attraction remains stuck in the early 2000s. My theory is that they don't want to get rid of having a Figment ride entirely due to his popularity, but at the same time they don't want to invest in giving him a long overdue update. Apparently Disney pitched an Inside Out attraction as a potential replacement, but Pete Docter rejected it due to not wanting Figment gone.

He and Iger failed to deliver on their promises, to no one’s surprise. None of the new Epcot stuff has anything to do with the park. And that new stuff isn’t even all that substantial. Last time I went, they were still doing FP+ instead of Genie / Lightning Lane, and the very first time I went, they had disability passes that were essentially auto-FP for everything (for guests of all ages who were unable to wait in line due to physical or psychological reasons). Those were gone by our next visit because disabled people would "rent themselves out" to other families so they could skip lines. This is why we can't have nice things, folks.

Attractions that highlight renewable/green energy, environmental stewardship, robotics and science should have been added. An attraction that showed how animatronics are designed, developed and implemented would have been perfect. And if they wanted to sprinkle in some IP Moana could have been integrated with an attraction than highlighted water conservation. Guardians could have gone in over at Studios and Frozen should be at the Magic Kingdom.

The fact that I have to pay a full Disney Theme Park ticket price just to walk in the door, where all there is to do is spend more $ for food and drink is ridiculous. I did enjoy the Seas & the Gaurdians ride, but I didn't even bother trying to get on Frozen or Ratatouille because the lines were insane. The festival food was fun I guess, but again not worth the price of admission. It's sad bc my fiance thought I'd enjoy EPCOT because I love food & drink & travel, so in theory it sounds perfect, but I hate that you have to spend so much added money on top of your ticket price, and then there's nothing in there but cheap trinkets that barely mean anything to the actual culture. Personally I think they need to go completely back to the drawing board with EPCOT and figure out what they actually want it to be.

Epcot back in the 80s was pretty magical. Futuristic and educational. Rode Spaceship Earth last year and it hasn’t changed AT ALL. Wildly out of date and the effects are a joke by modern standards. Kind of representative of the rest of the problems in the park. Unfocused and mostly not a fresh experience. Still fun but could be sooooo much better.

All this promise and all we got was a copy of a EuroDisney ride a thematically out of place GoTG coaster (not that Disney cares about THEME in their THEME parks anymore) and a standard city park as a “hub”. The amount of missed potential is enough to make one weep.

Disney’s priorities are so out of whack. Yes let’s announce all these changes for a park that desperately needs them, cancel or cut down half of them and then retheme a ride 99% of people had zero issue with in a different park because it makes us look good in the current social climate. Oh and let’s take an astronomical amount of time to do all of this when our parks are pulling in record profit.

It really feels like Disney would benefit from adding a fifth park to Disney World so they can just cram in all the IPs they so shamelessly want to plug, all the while they're ignoring so many other IPs and aren't even thinking about whether those IPs could make for good attractions. Star Wars, Pixar, Marvel, you could build entire theme parks out of just those companies portoflios, and people would happily go to them.

I loved Epcot when i visited in 2014. At the time, I was a teenager. It was nice to go somewhere that was more adult-oriented compared to the rest of the parks. Less children yelling and screaming, more things that adults are interested in. Removing that, to me, endures the parents will be at boiling point by the time they leave their vacation.

I dont get why they dont add some themed flats. Like throw 3 or 4 in one year. Actually truly boost capacity. As long as theyre decently themed theyll work at Disney. Epcot shouldnt have IPs though, if you ask me. Should be themed to you know, THE WORLD and sciences. 14:20 shit, thats an hour line for food. All the parks are just too busy. Cant enjoy myself anymore.

The last part of this video is the telling part. It used to be that Disney had the top FIVE parks. Then came the two Universal parks and then it was DCA. Now Universal is the #2 and #4. With Epic coming soon, They may take #'s 2, 3 and 4. If corporate disney keeps raising prices, hopefully Universal will finally take the #1 spot and then all bets are off on the "success" of corporate disney parks in the future. The king will have not only been dethrone, but maybe dying as well. That's why Iger and corporate disney are putting out all these lie in the sky lies about new lands and such. Nothing is coming and they're not spending that money. Just replacing the almost $30 billion that they already cut from the parks. Something that all the pixie duster sites have completely forgotten about.

The Disney management really didn't address the issues put forth in this video. They forget that they need to attract and please the consumer. But more and more they are destroying what Epcot was suppose to be. Sure, the Play Pavilion would have been something needed, but more rides and more attractions are needed. The enhancement of Spaceship Earth was canceled and IT is about all that remains of Future World. This needs to be done. As for rides at the various countries, an Alpine Bobsled should be added to Germany, instead of Poppins, bring in King Arthur (Sword in the Stone), Alladin and His Magic Carpet at Morocco. Additionally, a new country with a ride (Brazil, India and maybe Russia) is needed. I would get rid of Frozen in Norway, and rename it Scandanavia. Here I would expand the pavilion to feature Asgard and the Nine Realms. (Not Marvel)
As for Future World --- drop the pretense. Future World it is not. Instead call it Discovery Land. Create a new attraction -- Imagining Horizons at the Imagination Pavilion - combining the two with NEW ideas. At Sea and Land, bring in reimagined Journey to the Center of the Earth and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Keep the Mission to Mars but add a visit to a Black Hole. The Play Pavilion should still be added and the enhancement of Spaceship Earth should also go forward.
More fixes need to be done to update the park, but Disney fails to realize that Epic Universe at Universal is going to make it THE MAIN ATTRACTION in Orlando. Disney has not concentrated on what is important and seems to treat WDW at a stepchild with Shanghai, Europe and Disneyland getting new rides and attractions. WDW gets the least attention. We don't need more hotels and vacation clubs. WDW needs attractions at ALL 4 Parks. A fifth park is NOT needed. Build out what one has. All have the space to do so, even Hollywood Studios (I see a huge wasted Parking Area that could be build into parking garages) Use the same type of garages that you used for Downtown Disney.
Maybe the management is punishing Florida due to its politics. That is very short-sided. It has already hurt its Florida Residence Annual Passholder program. This was a good source of revenue. Also, staying in property is not the big deal it once was. Bring in free breakfast like surrounding establishments. Riding the buses can't be the only benefit. Besides, rooms outside Disney are bigger and more attractive and family friendly. Wallpaper featuring Disney Characters does not make for a better room. Instead of working on political agendas, maybe the Disney Imagineers can once again imagine REAL experiences for the public who visit and pay good money for entertainment.

You can basically take every logo off off of the screen at the end and just put a big Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind logo instead because that is the only positive addition to the park since the 'overhaul' began.

  • @kalzium8857

Aside of the guardian of the galaxy ride, the overhaul seems underwhelming. The gotg ride is a modern space mountain. But it will sooner or later it will be rethemed. Marvel is an ip in decline. Remys ride is a copy from their worst park and is fine i guess.
But the rest? Moanas journey of water kinda exists and would fit better in animal kingdom. The new epcot center looks boring. Like a generic city park.

I only went to DW once in 2013, and I have to say unfortunately my main memory is the time that husband and I wasted in "attractions" that turned into meet and greets. Zero shade on anyone that enjoys them, but I find the experience very upsetting due to my social anxiety, and husband is the same. It's just not something we want to participate in and like there was just not enough clear signage of "this isn't a ride" for when we went "oh, that's something Disneyland doesn't have, let's do that", it seemed to be a meet and greet line or an "experience" of just standing in place like the Pirates thing.

Epcot never needed to be "Family-Friendly", it already was!! As a kid I adored the attractions, both on World Showcase and in Future World. How it tackled a bit more mature subjects than the rest of the parks was exactly what made it special and its attractive quality. Making it "more family friendly" was just Disney's excuse to slap their film IP's onto everything and completely ruining the technological and worldwide aspect of Epcot that made it special in the first place

Not a fan of the new hub; it feels claustrophobic and of-the-moment. Never have liked injecting IP for all the new rides. The fact that the're pitching the Moana meet-and-greet as a walk-through attraction shows just how far Disney has fallen; a decade ago, that level of theming was applied to bathrooms at Magic Kingdom, with commensurate fanfare.
But all will be forgiven if they bring back IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.

You left out other cuts. We lost the update to the ride inside the ball and the changed exit, the fact they tore down one of the wings of the entrance to build a new building…. THEN REBUILT THE SAME GOD DAMN BUILDING AND CANCELED THE NEW ONE. SO adding both of these to the list says a lot tbh. There was also the rumor that hall way through they would have announced an update to the Mexico ride.

Man, it sounds like Disney didn't learn the first time around that* replacing something popular with something new doesn't always yeild good results. Disneyland took away the original Main Street Electrical Parade (which always attracted crowds) with "Light Magic" a non parade "streetacular" that was such a shitshow that it was removed 4 months later.

Grew up loving Epcot with Back to the Future and then Original Test track before they changed for the worst. All the best and most original rides are pretty much have been stripped away from the park completely, where the ones that are still round are on their last legs.
Epcot WAS the family friendly and even educational back in the 90s but no longer. Disney has no idea what to do with Epcot anymore and it shows sadly. Not sure why they couldnt give each country in the world showcase its own small ride and make them fun and educational like the old Norway one was before Frozen took over.
Love the fact that they were just throwing random IPs of theirs into Epcot just to see if it would get any more people to go there instead of Magic Kingdom or Hollywood studios which are both Over capacity and overcrowded nowadays.
Epcot is in bad shape but nothing compared to Hollywood studios or Magic Kingdom. Imagine having rides that they haven't been updated since the 1960s & they refuse to update them or change any of the outdated ride systems or even try and redesign the horrible line systems that were made for a 1960s crowd, not 2024. Clearly genie plus system is a cash grab for a Desperate company that has wasted It's time and money thinking its a proper movie studio instead of a massive theme park supporting the movies it makes and not the other way around.
